What’s sad is metal has gotten so expensive in our area that it’s cheaper to get it already built at TS. Awesome video!

I have a 1953 Ford that I would love to build a similar lift. I appreciate you giving a step by step description. I would rather build it myself rather than get a store bought one. Thanks for the inspiration.

Glad to hear that. I couldn't find one I liked for a reasonable price so I decided to make one. Used it multiple times and works like a charm. You'll love it if you build one similar.

Great job. Well explained. Great detailed measurements. Just bought my first tractor and enjoy building things myself. Never knew the horizontal and vertical measurements for CAT 1 lift support. Thanks to you, I do now. Again, great tutorial on boom lift. I will be building it soon.

Good project! Well done. One thing I've done to help me with projects is a large welding table on rollers, so I don't have to bend down low to weld, and still be able to push the table around the shop.

Well done and seems very sturdy, well over the tractor capacity, very good work. My comment is about improving; to make it even more sturdy, where the top link attach, I would have installed longer ears to weld together the vertical post with the boom. With a similar boom pole I made 9 years ago, I lifted over 3,500lbs and nothing wrong happen (flexing-torsion-broken weld) Thank you for your post ;-)
@chickenhousemechanic
@chickenhousemechanic 3 жыл бұрын
That would surely make it stronger. The two pieces I had for the top link were actually scrap so I didn't have enough to go that far out with it. Seems like I thought about that but didn't do it just because of limited materials.

Nice job…I’m building a very similar unit to double as a log skidder with hooks up close and farther back for a boom lift. I also am making it so that I can hook it up to my plow attachment points on a front quick connect plate to get more help to lift beams 10 feet or so.

Definitely built to stand the pressure. I like the bracing. The only thing I would do differently is find a way to keep the boom level as you lift it up. But it may not affect you to not do that.
@dhache1195

You can install hydraulic cylinder as a top link (as I did for mine) so you can vary angle as you want/need.

@@chickenhousemechanic my concern is water freezing in it OR Worse, hornets 🐝 I just finished a trailer into sawmill. The trailer had an slide out expansion. I'm taking one of the tubes and making a crane like yours with a twist. The inside tube will slide out about 4 or 5 feet 🤔 to increase my reach and height. I'm also going to build a 4 point saddle for 4 corner stable lift.

I tried to keep overall length 6 foot or less. With the upright and 3 point hook ups it was around 70" total. A lot of the ones you can buy are also 6 foot so I used that as a reference measurement.

Probably about $150-175. I'd have to look up the steel bill to know for sure. The hooks and shackles were about $35. Rest was in steel.
