Strong smells repel snakes. Ammonia can be sprayed around the perimeter and where they congregate to send them scurrying. Also strong smelling herbs and spices like clove and cinnamon oil in a diffuser or incense. You can use smells like lavender, marigold, wormwood, peppermint, etc. Look up smells that repel snakes. Those same strong smells will also repel spiders as well, so win win. Love your show, best of luck to you guys and your mom.

I'm always amazed at the beauty of your home and land there. The food you prepare I would absolutely love to try. I live in North Carolina, USA. I've lived in Iowa, the middle of the USA, and Texas, south middle of the USA, but I've never been outside of the USA. We have lush beautiful mountains in North Carolina. I live it the foothills of the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Piedmont area. I've always came back here. There's no place like home, and this is home. We have brown recluse spiders, black widow spiders, rattle snakes. There's also lots of black bears, even near my home, but they never bother us. We camped about 10 miles of my house and my son slept in a hammock and he saw the mom bear and her cub dig through our food. She stood up to look into my truck and slid her paws down the side of the door, leaving scratch marks all the way down it. I'm amazed at your talent to figure things out as you go. I follow a dozen or so families on KZbin, and all the young girls at some point will date or introduce her boyfriend. Neither of you girls, nor your mom are ever seen with a male friend. Yes, there's groups of friends with guys in them visit, but always as a group. What's the deal? Are you not interested in having a family continue owning and caring for your farmland? You have to have a boyfriend before you have a husband and start a family. Why no interest in men? Mom not interested in remarrying? I don't understand. I love your channel. I pre-ordered your book back when it came out and I've passed it around my family to let them enjoy it also. Thanks for sharing. I'm so glad that spider bite didn't harm you.

Doing a great job moving forward and finding practical solutions for every challenge. Although I haven't made any, there are plenty of resources for sharpening and restoration of metal products around the interweb. It does take a fair few hours to sharpen a bunch of old steel saws. There is a process that requires a bit of clamping and filing with a triangular profiled file. Keep at it, I hope the spiders aren't too mean. God knows as an ex tradie I have scars all over from spiders living in Reno's. Take care and just keep going. Remember to reach out to people when you feel too alone. Your people and friend are your strength.

Good job on your first framing project! The finish boards around the window look really nice, as well. As someone who loves old tools and is obsessed in finding them at yard sales and then utilizing them on projects, I have one piece of advice: If you're going to be undertaking similar projects in the future, get a circular saw. It's a power tool that will make cutting boards so much more efficient. As for rust on tools, there are store bought chemical applications that can work to clean them or you can use a wire brush and steel wool to scour them and then use vinegar to get the rust off if you want to do the home method. You're just going to have to do it every so often because once rust takes hold it will reappear. Glad you're ok from the spider bite. I don't know how you Aussies deal with all of that over there. I only have to deal with one type of poisonous snake here and just a couple types of spiders. (I'm on the east coast of the U.S.)

That 'neutralized' the venom, my hand didn't swell, pain subsided. Now I have a small 'birthmark' looking blemish where I was bit, over ten yrs ago. Anastasia, you also need to google 'restoring rusted tools' as well. That will help🙂. Y'all take care, be safe! ✌🏼🤘🏻🫶🏼👊🏼 🚫🕷!

@MotherTheMountain It didn't scare me at first because it was blisters that broke and oozed yellow liquid for a week or so . What scared me was how long it took to heal and how deep the wounds got . After a year , it finally healed up to a point that didn't require a bandage . My doctor told me that , if the main bite had been over my shin bone , I might have lost the leg below the knee . I have been afraid of spiders ever since.

For your vertical positioning, get a light string (could even be cotton) and something as a weight (could be a stone or a couple of nails). Tie the weight to the cotton and you have a plumb line. Hold (or secure) the top where you want it, and note where the weight ends up. Gravity is your friend!

In the Ozark Mountains some of the old houses were of board and batten construction. There were no studs or inner walls. The people would paste newspapers to the walls and ceilings to keep out the cold drafts. There is a story about a young man and woman who married and rented one of those houses. There first night in the bed, they heard something in the newspapers overhead. The paper gave way and a copperhead landed in bed with them. They didn't get bitten, but they did spend the rest of the night sitting on the porch. When daylight came, they went looking for another place to live.
