Awesome work!! My boss made one awhile back out of a subsoiler tine, for his backhoe.

I think you’d be better having the excavator blade towards the work area and down to offer stability Shawn. Looks like a good job with the homemade ripper though now the welds are stronger.
@cameronschmitz43 жыл бұрын
I second this as having the blade forward also increases the amount of power required before the machines counterweight is overpowered and the machine starts to tip

I think you're right. Check out my video on moving some walnut logs where I use that technique with my smaller machine.

Shawn, a bigger machine may make waste out of the tooth but it's taking what you can throw at with the current machine. 👍 I prefer a oxygen acetylene torch myself however I have had to use old welding rods and crank up my welder to make cuts before I got a torch.

This tooth needs to be repaired again. It's gotten a ton of work done, but it's bent again.

@@GCFD Shawn, I didn't know if you had seen this since I edited it. Shawn, I found this video I think your excavator could handle something like this Watch "Excavator Ripper" on KZbin kzbin.info/www/bejne/pKuon2N7fdysrdU 1/2" steel is rather thin and to try to add layers of plate metal on each side doesn't help a lot because it's only welded around the outer edges more or less. Also when you added the tooth on the end I believe it made it weaker because it added too much to the length. To me I would have wanted something like 1 and 1/2" thick hardened steel to take care of most bending problems. Also tapering the edge facing the operator would be nice and you could widen the back edge more or less that would give you a wedge like appearance. However not being able to see how it bent again makes it hard for me to do much more than guess. Hope you find the solution to solve the problem. God Bless

@@GCFD Shawn, after looking into your Millermatic 250 it's output is right about 250 amps which in my opinion is on the low side for welding 1/2" steel of any type. However it is ideal for most of the materials used in building your trailers. I've done a lot of welding in lime plants that produced crushed rock of all sizes and most all our welders were stick welders AC/DC mounted on a old pickup truck. Most of the welders produced like 600 welding amps which would weld almost anything using mainly 7018 low hydrogen rods which do produce quiet a lot of splatter. Thick metals will be much harder to weld using your Mig welder but it is possible if you make many more passes or layers of welds provided the wire penetrates the thicker metal enough to make a secure bond or weld. Also the 1/4" plate over the 1/2" plate will work but you may have make a smaller pattern that leaves you room for more passes to make sure it bonds. Also last but not least you really need to cut out some oval shaped holes near the center of the plate so you can place more welds inside those ovals to make sure the 1/4" plate bonds better to the 1/2" and does its job. Remember to make your passes in a zig zag pass as mentioned before and of course this will take multiple passes to get a strong enough weld. If you don't feel comfortable doing these types of welds maybe your friend can help out and weld it for you. God Bless, Hope all goes well

I need one for digging trails thru shale rock areas and I have a job to dig a stump in someone’s front yard. I ordered one from Rhinox in GB. $750 with shipping. Not cheap but they make great products and it will pay for itself.
@GCFD3 жыл бұрын
I have the Rhinox ripper tooth for my small ex. They won't ship the one for my bigger ex. There's a company in King, NC that builds them but they were out of stock when I needed this one.

What size pins are on that kubota?
@GCFD3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what the size is, but it's the standard kubota quick release that is on the kx91, 121, u35 excavators. I wouldn't buy another ex without a quick attach.

Turn the bottom part of the excavator around and put down the front blade it will help keep you from sliding forward it will also help steady the machine.

hey shawn where can i get a good priced coupler for my u17-3 to make it quick attach? thumbs up for building the ripper and saving a bunch of $$

I got the aftermarket Quick coupler for my Kx-018 from Rhinox Group. I also bought a few buckets and a tooth from them since they were small enough to ship.

Please lower your grading blade down when digging or lifting heavy objects. Why? Because then your excavator will be much more stable without all the jumping around.

Grind off the outer layer on the plate so you have clean metal to weld on. The outer layer from the making have a higher melting point thats why it dident hold.

Acronym "SHIT" = "S"hip "H"igh "I"n "T"ransport. This acronym came out of old, old England back when goods were transported by sailing ships. If Manure got wet it made a stinking mess...so they hung the bags of manure from the ceilings and walls of the ship to keep the manure dry.
