I'm unsure if I've ever commented on your videos before, but have followed them for some time now. I just wanted to say don't be ashamed for not knowing how to do something more efficiently. The fact that you are doing it at all, puts you way ahead of all the other chuckle heads out there. It's easy to critique someone, but still not have the balls to go all in on a rebuild like that. You are doing awesome!

Reminds me of a 302 I built years ago, in the early 90s. 1970 302, 9.3 to 1 compression, ported 1970 heads, 3 angle valve job, 280 Comp Cam, Edelbrock f4b Shelby style intake, 600 Holley and headers. I ran a pinto converter in a C4 with 411 rear end. This was in a 1971 Mercury Comet GT. Ran 13.50s at 99 on street tires, and was an absolute blast to drive on the street! Love this build! Anxious to see how it sounds! Congratulations on building your own!

With stronger valve springs and the bigger cam you really should have installed screw in rocker studs, or at least pinned the stock pressed in studs. Hopefully this doesn't cause you problems down the road. Nice to see youngsters taking on projects like this on your own. Keep it up, looking forward to hearing it run.

when your torquing an engine rotating assembly you should always spin it over after every rod you torque or main.
@71_sears974 жыл бұрын
cody mallernee some pro engine builders on KZbin say it's bad to turn the crank when all the bearing caps/rods aren't torqued in because the bearings aren't fully seated into the caps and rods until they are torqued in and turning the crank with the bearings not conformed to the journal can cause premature failure. Don't quote me on this but I believe Power Nation recommended this
@codymallernee52584 жыл бұрын
I was always taught do one at a time and turn it over afterwords that way if you were to to something improper and it wont bar over you could always double check the last one instead of having to start over

I think you can kiss 10:1 good bye. Those small chamber heads is going to kick you up alot. I hope you che ked valve to piston clearance bc with your right foot they just may meet!! My 306 is 10:1 and I'm running g a true flat top with 2 small valve reliefs but aluminum heads on top. You may have to run racing fuel if you start getting spark knock. Either way you'll get it and I'm looking forward to the next video. Want to hear it run!!!!
@tombryant11044 жыл бұрын
I'm betting there'll be a video in the future installing alu heads with 64cc chambers. That'd yield compression in 10:1 area & probably pickup 50-60Hp over those old wheezy 302 heads. Only reasonably good head of late '60s/early '70s were on the '69-'71 351W. GT-40 irons are similar but have advantage of hardened valve seats.

Seems like a nice combo. I like the domed pistons. I am a little hesitant to run a flat tappet cam any more after reading about all the failures guys are having. Retrofit link-bar lifters are a little pricey at about $400, but I think I would run them if I had a flat tappet block. I am also a fan of the later GT40 or GT40p heads. I just figure they are not as worn out at early heads and no other Windsor head flows better.

Sounds and looks killer! Is that cam hydraulic or solid lifter type? I never had much experience tearing into small block Fords, except replacing cams and valve train parts, as most of my experience was with the FE block, mostly 390 but with a few 406 and 427s. I could rebuild an FE in my garage with a buddy helping me in a weekend, although not keeping hard at it as you do!
