“Where’s the Ferrari!?” - that’s a fair question. Hopefully anyone curious sees this comment. The plan was to hit the dyno this past Wednesday, but I ran into issues when pressure testing my new intercooler. I had a pinhole leak between the water and air sides… so it’s a bit of a setback. Next week, fingers crossed!

I love that you're going a little less aggressive. IMO there's nothing more satisfying than mocking up a fit, fully cycling the suspension without springs, and then ordering that wheel/tire and have it fit perfectly. When I measure for these things, I simplify a bit. I typically am running square tires, no stretch. So instead of worrying about wheel widths and dimensions etc, I simplify to tire and offset. I can plug a tire spec into a calculator and get overall width and diameter numbers. You can even mock this up with plywood or cardboard. My biggest W with this was fitting huge 295s (I think?) to a '71 Mach 1 Mustang on a Scwarz performance chassis (which I cannot recommend, turns out they built us this chassis without having actually built a 2nd gen mustang on one lol). Ended up with some whacky negative offsets, but I trusted the numbers, and yes that turned out to be the correct fit with some very expensive forgeline wheels (I had pitched GTR fitment TE37s lol).

Camber is really the key to fitting wheels that don't really fit. I have 18x9.5" wheels all around on my E34, and the wheels are ET35 so I'm running a 30mm spacer in the front. Without camber, they poke out, but with -2º of camber, they tuck into the fenders quite nicely.

i grew up on the east coast going to shows like h20i, waterfest, SOWO, dubs at the gap etc... car meets every wednesday night in a Krispy Kreme parking lot, and being around the wheel/stance game fostered by VWvortex. Ever since I moved to the west coast, I haven't seen any kind of culture like that. I think you might be the only person out here with a proper mentality on wheels. Finding that rare old set of wheels that might be the only set in the country, and building them to make them work... nobody out here seems to want to take the time. I lost count of how many times I took 18 hour road trips to buy or sell a set of 30 year old wheels. I was that kid in high school running around with wheels that cost twice as much as the car.... lol.

This would be a case where an fdm 3D printer would be nice. you could 3d print test spacers, caliper mounts, calipers, sections of wheels or entire wheels for fitment. There are some cheap printers that print from 400-500mm cubed . With a big nozzle and running klipper, you could get the prints reasonably quickly.

Mike, your text values for the back spacing and wheel center line are swapped in the measuring portion of the video. One half of width is 4.625" and back spacing is 5.625". Also, why not use the overall width of the rim, 10.25", instead of the stated width, 9.25", for your measurements. I've always found it easier to deal with those values especially when measuring and calculating. Besides, it doesn't matter what the stated width is. If there's not enough room for the actual width of the rim, you're going to have a bad time. Great video all the same and thank you for putting it together. I'm excited to see where you take this car. My preference is for a squared off tire not stretched. I'm sure it'll turn out great whatever direction you take. Good luck!

Great segment! Thanks for sharing this breakdown on the correctly measuring the total width/halves/offset. I have a set of Work Brombachers that fit my car, but I would like a bit more outer lip. I am running Work Brombacher 18x8.5 +54 on 225/40/18 Michelin PSS & 18x10 +60 on 265/35/18 Michelin PSS ('95 Porsche 993 Narrow Body). I am also running spacers (7mmF & 5mmR) to fill the wheel well, but I have clearance on the brakes to run them without the spacers. Is it an option to swap the outer lips for a slightly deeper look (equal to the thickness of spacers) so I can not run the spacers? I am also assuming I may have to move to a slightly wider tire (235 F & 285 R) to reduce the "stretch" - Thanks
