Great that you get excited about mechanics but learn by there mistakes... All the Valves and guides should of been replaced when the bent valve was found.. the hydraulic lifters should of been replaced with new due to the amount of metal shavings found in the oil and filter.. they also should of been primed before putting in.. all you need is one bit of metal shavings to block a oil gallery and good bye motor.. The engine block and head should of been ultrasonic cleaned to ensure there was no metal shavings whatso ever... SR20 should of had 150 - 160PSi compression and a bigger cam wont drop your cylinders 30 - 40PSI

Bitter Raven The bent valve was due to Alberto going at it to hard and everything else you said isn't necessary since metal shavings can come from anything not just from the lifters. And smal metal shavings aren't uncommon since the internals and such wear overtime in any car. But if it was junks or bigger pieces then he should worry

Oh Idea!!.. with your old pistons and springs and whatever valves are left from the old SR20.. you should see if Alberto will be kind enough to weld the pistons in place and mount the springs and valves on there in a awesome way and finish it with a glass top and make it a center piece of memories in your home 👍 conversation starter for days😁

It's not possible for an SR20 to be 180psi with 8.5:1 compression. At sea level the atmospheric pressure is 14.7. If you multiply 14.7x8.5, you get 124.95psi. Your SR20 would have to have over 12:1CR to compression test at 180psi. Not to forget about a bigger cam lowering the compression due to overlap (like Alberto said). I was mind blown when I heard about this!

Don't worry about the compression. They are all even which is important. You have brand new rings. They will seal better after your engine is broke in. Big BOOST! is making that engine sweet! Keep it up.

Doesn't make sense that you would compression test if before the engine is even started.. Rings need to seat by being driven under load and heavy engine braking before they seat and really get compression. The camshaft part is true for compression, but not that drastic with such small cams.

+Robert Williams my clutch can definitely hold 400+hp (competition stage 2), but it could use a new disk. I'm just going to change the disk when I pull it out again for the 2J though

I worked as a technician at a dealership for 6 years and while I loved turning wrenches, I hated the atmosphere of having to work with other guys that were essentially brown nosers and were more than willing to throw you under the bus to make a buck and to make themselves look good, so 2 years ago I just got out of it entirely as a profession. But seeing the way Alberto is and how good his work is and how his shop and crew seem to be so chill, it's almost inspired me to get back to wrenching and if the opportunity ever came up, I'd be more than happy to work for someone like him. P.S. I may get a lot of shit for this, but I wouldn't wash an intake manifold with water like that, only because an intake manifold has several channels inside that twist and turn so it's possible for a small amount of water to get trapped somewhere in between and be sucked into the combustion chamber and we all know that water cannot compress. Just my .02
