I worked as a projectionist at Cineworld in the UK for 16 years and have also owned many home projectors, even before HD (let alone UHD) was a thing. So here are some tips for you and all your watchers. 1. Always buy the original bulb to replace in your projector and beware of fakes. People are tempted by fakes as they are much cheaper, however, you are risking the bulb pulling too much voltage and blowing your power ballast. After that, your projector won't even turn on and you won't be covered by warranty as you used a fake bulb. 2. NEVER touch the lamp with your bare hands when replacing. We naturally have oil on our skin and will transfer to the bulb. These bulbs get really hot and we all know what happens when you heat oil, expect your bulb to crack or explode. Just touch metal casing or even better, wear latex gloves. 3. (Do this at your own risk) If you are careful with electronics, then as soon as the warranty has ended, remove the bulb and then the case. Carefully clean dust from the fan and anywhere else you can with a soft brush. I use a camera lens cleaning brush. Dust can corrode components and/or block airflow. If you remove components to dig deeper for dust, make sure you know where everything goes. It is easy to think yeah that seems simple, then suddenly, when you go to reassemble, you find your not sure which screw goes where or cable etc. Take photos everytime you remove something. And most important, do not touch the power board. It may still hold a powerful charge even if unplugged and give you a nasty if not fatal shock. It's usually at the bottom at the back of the projector, but will be where you plug the power lead into. A way to combat this is to press the power button when it is unplugged so the projector goes to switch on and drains any power left in the power board. Still, best not to touch it full stop. Also, best to use latex gloves to avoid touching colour wheel, lenses, mirrors etc and I think its a good idea to wear them when handling circuit boards. Make sure you are grounded before taking off the case to to avoid elctrostatic discharge. 4. Probably should have said first, but make sure you clean the vents on the outside of the case reguarly. I do it once a month using the soft brush. If your projector has filters too, pop them off (I know the HD141x doesn't) and clean them aswell. Dust in the vents prevents proper airflow and your projector will have to work harder to stay cool. Follow these tips and your projector should last for many years. P.S. Smoking can corrode components over time. there is no maintanance other than don't smoke around your projector or other elctronical goods if you want them to last longer.

I watched this to help me change my lamp. Mine never exploded but went very dim all of a sudden. I actually bought an official optoma lamp unit (expensive) and it fit perfect. Super easy to install, unlike yours. lol. Great upload tho & funny. All the best

Thanks for this, swapping mine out this evening. I won't know exact hours I have on the OEM bulb until I replace, but it's a good bit over 8000hrs, probably closer to 8500hrs. It's 4yrs 10months old.

Cool! Glad I was able to help! Yours lasted for a pretty long while!

@@TheHobbieCollector Total hours on the OEM bulb ended up being 8406! The stock bulb still has life, but the new bulb is so much brighter and sharp so will hold onto old as a back-up.

Does anyone know if the hd142x lamp fits the 141x? And would it be a improvement

Hi Hobbiecollector. I too love ps4 on my Hd141x. i will soon be replacing my lamp for the first time (I'm at 5400hrs) and I'd really love to know indepth, what you think of the performance of the BL-FP190E lamp, in terms of brightness, sharpness, colors, 3D etc, when compared to the original lamp. This information is virtually non existent online and even the reviews from the Amazon vendor aren't great. Your response will be greatly appreciated. Love your channel btw. thanks bro

The lamp has nothing to do with the sharpness, colours and 3D. It's only the light source, the other components are responsible for most of the things you listed.
