Great tips. I won't forget the tips on the new growths needing to touch the media, not that i have any yet 🤣 I think with the growths pinned down like that, come watering ventilation would be extra important? Great video, have a nice day, stay safe and happy growing my friend

I definitely have to be careful of watering when the little leads start to push leaves and open. As for ventilation, I think most bulbos appreciate good airflow and a lot more of them like to dry a little between waterings than you may think. Humidity seems to be crucial in their development as well but making sure the roots have something to grab ahold of is the first step towards their success. You should try ambrosia or miniatum first, if I may suggest. Both are relatively easy growing, small and seem to be very forgiving. They also love higher light levels and would be hard to scorch. I hope to see some in your collection some day soon! Happy growing and be safe!

My bulbos are doing the same thing too. Maybe that’s why the new growths are small... Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for watching!! They tend to root MUCH better when the rhizome makes contact with a surface of some sorts. I hope you have luck taming yours and see success this coming season. Happy growing!

Do you have to unmount and re-mount every few years to get the moss out and replace with new?

So, it depends.... I tend to replace moss every season (if I remember) but the mounts tend to last much longer. If your mount stays more moist it will degrade a lot faster but if it dries often or you do not use any moss, they hold up for many years. I am starting to lean more towards live mosses and want to try treefern again because I have had a lot of issues with the zombie moss going off quickly when kept moist, but I still use it as it is the devil I know. Once my orchids establish onto a mount I will not remove them unless they are dying for some reason. I will replace moss every spring or fall (whenever it best suits the plants) and let them grow out their days until the mount can no longer sustain them. I’m actually releasing a video this week where I detail just how I do it!! Check it out mid week snd you’ll see exactly how I do the whole process! Thanks so much for watching and for the question! Happy growing!

After doing this how was your result? Just picked up a few at the Tamiami orchid show. I have others mounted on cork as well.

I will file this under "yet another reason not to grow Bulbos". I hope you're staying safe, looked like you are/were in for some icky weather. We're having an unusually warm spell here, it was 88 yesterday which is really warm for early February.

Lol, I guess you either love em or hate em! They can be a bit of work but I do absolutely love the blooms. I have one coming that has to be my favorite. Maybe 2 more weeks? The weather here has been atrocious!! Freezing rain and sleet for a week. It snows but never sticks..... just ice ice ice. The mid Atlantic special. Supposedly we have snow coming but I’ll believe it when I see it. I could go for a good snow, as long as it gets me out of work for a few days!! 😝 Enjoy the warmth.... 88 is hot as hell for February! I’ll bet all the plants and animals are confused....
