As mentioned, they were bread to be a gentleman's dog. Watch the original Oliver movie. Bill Sykes dresses like a gentleman with his top hat and tails and has a EBT

I've seen what that breed is capable of and that not a good choice for a first time dog owner, I mean believe me, if you have any big dog breed you don't want to have it tangle with an English Bull Terrier because I'm telling you they are one tough formidable opponent even for the biggest breeds

Probably because there isn't another country that developed Bull Terriers. My breed, Staffordshire Bull Terrier also developed by James Hinks, doesn't have "English" in the name. I am aware of Staffordshire being centrally located in England. It's just that there are other English breeds named without their country/region in front and semantics aren't necessary.
