Recently had the 190D's rear left parking brake shoe drag during a freeway commute and man that disc/drum got hot, I mean, smokingly hot. I was a little worried about the wheel bearing. The next day I took both rear wheels off, calipers off and hanged on coil spring, then discs off. One brake shoe was shot, ground down almost to metal. Expander mechanism was not working at all. The one on the right rear wheel was just barely working. Then lubricated and actuated the several joints in the expander mechanisms between the parking brake shoes. I also sprayed some thin grease inside, behind this mechanism to the cable. Cleaned excess to avoid contamination on parking brakes. Now, the parking brake engages and also disengages properly. Seems to be worst during the winter, so will probably do it yearly at the minimum. - To save parking brakes, discs, bearings and other components at this location from damage.

Very informative. I think my Volvo works the same way and it also has a burning smell. I am convinced it's from the parking brake mechanism now .

Great! Some time ago had an issue with a noise from parking brake pad spring rubbing against protruding wheel bolts. Cling-cling-cling. It just needed re-seating. Whenever wheel is off the ground a wheelchange etc., I also check the drag.

Can I make a future video suggestion? Would love to see a video on checking and adjusting injection pump timing on this particular car or other OM602 powered W124. :)

That was an amazing video. Very informative. I have a 87 300D also same color. I had to have my bushing replace both sides along with the lower control arms, when we took the driver side out found that the parking brake shoes were cracked in a few spots. Replaced that one. The rear wheels had a lot of play in it but the Right side was fixed with the lower control arm and the bushing. after we got the left side done that side still had play in it. well had to replace all the upper control arms, the chamber thrust etc. and now it is no play. this car is amazing. Question.. Do you know of a place where you can get the rear differential 3 bolt pattern?

I have a Toyota Camry LE 2001 2.2 liter 4 cyl engine . When i was driving it today it smells like a burnt rubber . And the brakes kinda smokes to the passenger tire .and i heard kinda grinding noise when i brake .Iam thinking its my brake pads .I have no experience on this kinda issue . I was gonna change my brake pads . Any good info would be appreciated. Is it also ok to drive my car ?

Nice to see you again! I need to (I think) just adjust my parking brakes. I suspect one side is loose and the other might be okay. I've always had a hard time with those adjusters for some reason.
