I truly hope Ms. Scaffidi had a great time meeting an old timer guy. She seems a tad new to the scene, but has done the appropriate homework. She's certainly attuned to the car scene to the point she's "dangerous", but I'd bet she crumples the beer can bro races frequently. Dare I say, a Canadian I can respesct...without the syrup. She has that boomerish/old school mentality of "get er done before we run out of steam".

This series is great! It’s a slightly different side of Derek than VGG, which just makes you want to hang out with him even more (and even more so when he calls out the Avalanche as the worst car ever), and he brings out the best in the people he talks with. I had been unaware of Liv and her channel before this, but when a girl proclaims her love for Pontiacs, I’m definitely going to check that out!

Hi Derek - IPA came about long ago because when ale was shipped from England to their colonies in India it would spoil. They had to add a lot more hops (Hops is both a flavoring agent and a preservative), to the ale so it would not spoil. This special ale for India became known as "India Pale Ale" - or IPA.

When Liv mentioned her Tempest, it brought back many pleasant memories. My brother and I built several, a 66 and a 67. Later I had a 71 T-37. 71 was the only year they called ita T-37. My first experience with Pontiac was my brothers 64 GTO. Just after he bought it he blew the 389 in it. A friend of his had an old Star Chief with a 421. They slipped the 421 into the GTO, put the tri power off the 389 on it. Ran fantastic. If you drove it easy it got 22 mpg on the highway. Never ran it down the strip so don't know how it would have done. Around the town where I lived, there were only three cars that could outrun it. One was a 69 Judge with the 400 ram air. One was a 70 Chevelle the owner put over $5000 in early 70's dollars. The other was a 72 Dodge Challenger with the 440 with two four barrel carbs. No one else was even close.

For those interested, Edsel Ford had nothing to do with the design of the car named after him. He had been deceased 13 years before the brand came in to being. As a publicly traded company, the board went over the families wishes including Henry Ford II in naming the brand. In one way it was a win, at the time Lincoln was not considered a rival of Cadilac, but of Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Buick, Dodge and Desota. The Edsel was supose to take that slot and bump Lincoln up. Lincoln did move up and Ford moved other cars in to those slots after the demise of the Edsel name plate. It also might be a reason that Henry Ford II to such a hold on the head of the company.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I don't mean to be a smart ass. I installed car audio since we tried to put 45 record players in armrests. You mentioned 8 tracks had different instruments on each track. While this is 100% true you were referring reel to reel 8 tracks used in the recording studios. Car 8 tracks were a continuous loop, 4 tracks of stereo. When the first stereo track was at the end, a foil splice that joined the beginning and end of the tape would run across a set of contacts that would switch it to the next set of stereo tracks. That was the kachunk noise 1/4 of the way through the tape. Over time the tape would stretch and they would sound weird. Hence why Cassette was born. If you know anyone that wants one, I found a new in the box Clarion under dash 8 track on the shelf of the garage.

Wrongo buddy boy! The 8-Track Tape was based on the carts used in broadcast radio. The tape itself is a loop and at the end of the segment, requied no rewinding, ready to gp for the next play. The name comes from the tape having 4 stereo tracks across the width of the tape. At the start/finish point of the loop is a piece of metal tape which signals the player to shift the playback head to the next track. The shortcoming of this paradigm is the length of the tape. If the start/finish occurs in the middle of a song, it paused, went kachunk and resumed playing. The Casette Tape quickly pushed 8-Track into obsolescence as it was smaller, like less than 1/4 the size of a bulky 8-Track, longer duration up to 120 Minutes, less complex as it is a simple enclosed tiny reel to reel design, and most importantly, recordable. An 8-Track recording rig was a bit of a rarity. That said, the recording quality of 8-Track was superior as the playback speed of the tape was faster. The slower that magnetic tape passes the recording and playback heads, the sound has less physical space to occupy.

When I was in high school from 1968 to 1971 one of the fastest cars at school was a 1967 SS/RS coupe with a 327 small block. It belonged to a kid named Tracy Rainier. It could run low 14's on the track. Until another kid came along with a '67 GTO with a 389 who was faster, Tracy's Camaro was king of the hill. Both kids held down like three jobs to afford what then were new cars. And of course they were both still living at home.

Okay, yeah, all day tracks, you have you left the right channel, which is 2 channels and your head moves and 4 positions app-and-down 2 × 4 is 8. It's what it call to make tracks and then it's just like on your portrait, so it looked like it aint tracked tape except for the head. A hollow hole in the bottom of it and the pool came up in places to have a built-in pool on the tape card reach. And the hand only moved to position. But you had your left to dry channel or each one which made it for track
