In this video I catch the bus to Baslow and then have a gentle stroll through the picturesque Chatsworth Estate. I follow the River Derwent down towards Beeley and then head up on to the moors to visit Hob Hurst's House which is a 3,000 year old burial mound. From there I make my way over to our usual forest camp location to meet up with Jay, Tiny and Mark. A great night was had by all and not even the rain was enough to dampen our spirits.

Great vid again Dean! Especially like your attention for antiquities & other heritage in this magnificent landscape & you telling the story!

Thanks for watching. The Peak District certainly has a wealth of history and heritage to explore. Chatsworth could perhaps be described as the jewel in the crown of Derbyshire's more civilised history, along with Hardwick House too :-) I've visited the Old Mills along the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site in the past but have only recorded audio interviews, I'll have to head back again soon and get some video recorded too.

***** thanks for watching Mike, it was great to be back out in the forest with the boys again. There are 3 River Derwent's that I know of in the UK, I'd like to think the Derbyshire one is the mightiest though as it powered the birth of the Industrial Revolution :-) I am pretty biased though. Really looking forward to our Australia trip, had the flights booked for about 10 months so it's been a long time coming. Can't wait to see all my family over there and travel to some places I haven't visited on previous trips. Hoping to vlog while I'm there like I did in Asia.

Love that you show folks an outing reached by public transport. Such a beautiful view from the cliffs by the campsite.

The Peak District has great transport links from all sides so it's easy to hop on and off a bus. I left my car at home this time as Jay was driving me home. I might plan some more routes in the Peaks where I use public transport so I can get away from circular routes and the constant concern of finding a "safe" parking space, I'm always really paranoid about where I leave me car overnight :-)

I feel the same way leaving my car at a remote trailhead or canoe landing in the forest up here in the North Woods. But truly no options in those cases.

Thanks for watching Jamie, it was a great little overnighter and it was nice to be back out in the forest with the lads again. Really looking forward to the Australia trip, the flights have been booked for about 10 months so it's been a long time coming. I'm hoping to upload regular vlogs like I did during my Asia trip, we have lots of great things planned :-)

Nice video Dean, enjoyed the public transport, the walk, the ancient history and the revisit to the Derwent. Maaan even a used DB9 costs you £35,000. No need for your mate to catch the bus. Still he's good at bush craft with all the best kit to go with it no doubt. Probably his property also. Enjoy your trip to Australia....

Mark Jickells Thanks for watching Mark, it was a refreshing change to use Public Transport and not have to worry about parking or the inevitable trip back to the car in the morning. I'd never spend that much on a car, i'd be far to worried about scratching it :-)

Dean Read Yes Dean public transport allows us to approach our objective from further out. If it's a mountain, for example, we get the foothills in and appreciate the whole as it were..I could kind of see that in your video. I suppose vehicles only need to be functional and practical. Mind you everyone's need is different I guess. ATB Mark.

I really enjoyed watching that. Boy am I missing camping, as well as walking. Don't forget there is also another River Derwent in England? 😉 It feeds Derwent Water then Bassenwaite Lake in the Lake District. 👍 Enjoy your trip down under 👌

Fantastic, Dean! What a treat to watch...I've been drawn to Chatsworth house for a long time so it was especially nice to get a glimpse of the surrounding estate. Thanks for the local historical details also.

Thanks for watching Laura, Chatsworth has a really interesting history and there is always lots to see, do and explore when visiting. There are lots of events happening in the grounds during the year which draw in the crowds. The Cavendish family and staff there have done a great job attracting visitors and the money is being reinvested in the preservation of the house and its contents.

Nazgûl It's definitely worth a visit, i've been a few times in the last year or so and thoroughly enjoyed it. i'm used to coming home covered in mud whenever I go out in the Peak District so Chatsworth is a little more civilised than my usual outings :-)

A nice combination of walk and camp! Now, I'm sure that you know this already but the best River Derwent is over here in Yorkshire. In the manner of the locals, it stubbornly does its own thing and is probably the only river in the UK that flows away from the sea. I'll look forward to seeing how the Derwent down under compares. Have a good one, Al
@DeanRead
@DeanRead 9 жыл бұрын
Knucker thanks for watching Al, your version of the Derwent does sound rather rebellious. Our version here in Derbyshire powered the birth of the industrial revolution so we'll have to see what claim to fame the Tasmanian version has. Which of our fare Derwent's it is it named after will perhaps be the most likely question that I'll need to ask :-)

Awesome as always Deano, it was another great night mate. I really enjoyed it. Your walked looked great too. I need to take the girls to chatsworth when it's a sunny day and get in the river : ) And I wish the Aston Martin was mine haha.... Although it's nothing compared to my super power C Max ; ) haha

GoonieBushcraft It was a really great outing mate, everyone will have to head over to your channel to see what the place looks like in August as i'll be out of the game until September's visit I think... unless we can plan one for the first week or so of next month :-) Your C Max is far better than an Aston Martin. just think about the cost of fuel, road tax and insurance on something as flamboyant as that. Not to mention the carbon emissions which will inevitably leave us without a planet to go Bushcrafting on :-) haha. p.s. Looking forward to your video of the trip
