the entire time I was watching this video I kept thinking what your father must have been feeling ... two young daughters out on a 2 night over night adventure. We loved watching your video. A nice adventure you two went on. When you 'carry the boat' .. it is what is known as a 'portage' here in Canada.... the word comes from the early days of our country being founded... the French pioneers who were fur trading and used canoe to get from one part of the country to another and they needed to portage around rapids and falls.

That was such an awesome journey Becky. It is great to meat you Louise. That video kept my attention the whole way through. I know this sounds strange but when I use some other persons camp site, I like to leave a piece of wood on top of the wood pile with the word etched in (THANKS). That way they know that I am grateful of the securities they supplied for me. I enjoyed this video through and through. I'm glad to see that you girls had a fun time on your journey. That river was full of fish. If you didn't already have food, you could have caught some fish to get by. Thanks for posting girls! Loved it!

the whole time I was watching the video all I could think was I wish I was there with a fishing rod oh my goodness bet they passed across some pretty big fish and that was the last thing on their mind and they still had a great time you can tell by the smiles on their faces keep living girls and keep adventuring

Love your videos! Great to see you enjoying the outdoors and sharing your bushcraft skills. The Esbit stove set your sister showed is a great anodized aluminum kit, but DO NOT use wood. They are fuel cubes (or gels) and alcohol burner use only. I used to sell them, and they always got great reviews. All the Pathfinder gear I've seen is stainless steel, so it CAN be used with wood, as well as alcohol burners and hexamine-like fuel cubes, gel, etc. These days my kit is all stainless steel, some Pathfinder (widemouth GI-style canteen, cup, & stove stand) and some from other hiking kit manufacturers. SS is a bit heavier than aluminum, but I am willing to shoulder the difference in weight. Well, all except for my titanium sporks. I use the Light My Fire brand, just like the one shown... even at home sometimes. These are the best! Unlike the 'typical spork' with a bit of serration on the spoon edge for fork tines, the LMF sporks have a real spoon on one end and a real fork on the other, plus a safely dull serrated edge on the fork for a minimal knife. (Not for cutting steak. Trust me on this.) These are GREAT and weigh nothing. For ages I've also carried a Kleen Kanteen 40 oz (1.2L) single wall SS bottle with a SS 28 oz (450 ml) nesting cup. Great for solo & minimalist camping & trekking. Great river video. I trust you filtered and/or boiled your water if from that river. Looked like a pretty lazy current. I don't think you have poisonous water snakes to contend with where you live. I am in northeastern Texas, south central USA. Lots of nice poisonous snakes (aka cottonmouth water moccasins) in more remote rivers and lakes here... plus copper heads and rattlesnakes on land. I've never had a problem, but the moccasins can get irritable and territorial around sundown, and they will chase you on land and try to crawl into boats on the water. You might ensure your next camera has a removable battery, so you can carry spares for longer shoots. ;^)} I assume you were using something like my current phone, which does NOT have a removable battery, so if it dies there is no slapping in a spare. I will NOT get one of those again! Looking forward to more videos.

Totally agree about the spork. We are lucky and have no poisonous snakes. The camera doesn't have a removable battery but I am going to get a power bank to charge up the camera when I am out. Thank you for watching and am glad you enjoy the videos

Oh yes I still got my methylated spirit stove and still use it not as fancy as the two you got. What a lovely bit of river to paddle down with all the various wildlife. Did I hear a hawk in the morning of the first camp site? I have an inflatable kayak and am always worried I'm going to puncture it on something. One time kayaking in my back yard, just lazily floating and photographing heron, I saw a wake in the water coming straight toward me. It was a large beaver and it kept coming straight toward me till it was only 2 feet from me before it turned. I was so excited and a little scared that it was going to bite my kayak that my hands were shaking so all the photos I took of it came out blurry.

Becky: I am in Northern California, U.S.A. Most of my back yard is wetland wildlife refuge. The water is only 15 second walk out my door and has lots of critters. I see deer, coyote, beaver, otter, duck, hawks, owl, egret, 3 type of heron, turkey buzzard, rattlesnake, bass, catfish, crawdad (cray fish), and a lot more... and mosquito.

One solution to the wind problem for stoves is to dig a hole deep enough to block the wind. It has to be large enough to allow O2 in for combustion. If you line the hole with aluminum foil it will reflect all of the heat towards your supper, coffee, tea etc.
