Bushcraft Shelter Door Building - Winter Shelter improvements - Light Rain and Snow - Campfire Cooking. I went for another trip to the woods to make some improvements to the last shelter I built. I added front walls made of deadwood, twigs, and leaves, an arcade using lianas, and a very good looking shelter door. The weather forecast said we would have snow the next few days so I thought adding front walls and a door would be great in case of a snowstorm or a blizzard. The weather forecast was wrong - only some light rain during the first day and light snow during the night and the beginning of the next day. But I will return to that shelter if we do have more snow here this winter.

There are those that build shelters, there are those that build forts. But there is only one in the outdoor community that builds a work of art from the forest floor. Let yourself be carried away by the whisper of the wind, it will discover even the most intimate of thoughts, and take the painful dreams away on it's endless journey.

One thing this channel has above all of the countless other bushcrafter channels on youtube is AESTHETICS. Attention to detail. I feel like I just watched some old World War 2 footage of a soldier out in the field. Everything is paid attention, the gear, the clothes, the style of the shelter, that rounded door, the shots and the way she films... air tight. Quality. 👌🏻

In my youth, a friend of mine father was stuck in a snow storm on a mountain, in the deep forest, the snow was nearly over the chest, Her dad and friend survived by staying in the pickup. Drinking whiskey and rationed chocolate bars. they were up about thirty days. The rescue crews had given up on them and figured that this would be a retrieval in the spring. But there came a break In the weather, and the younger man, decided to make for a cabin in the distance. He was seen as a small animal making his way through the snow. Because the snow was so deep. He was rescued as well his friend. So in regards to survival, shelter building knowledge can be blessing.

Hi there Johanna .. That's a Super Shelter 👍 .. and the Door!!! Wow .. guaranteed to 'keep the Big Bad Wolf at Bay and out in the Cold' 😊 .. very nice 👍. Yes, It's often about the Journey rather than the Destination. The anticipation of what is to come ..the planning and preparation involved .. the actual process of getting there .. can be and often is, just as meaningful and satisfying as the arrival / completion thereof. 'Bushcrafting' .. being in and enjoying the Outdoors, is so much more than just 'Survival' (in my humblecopinion, an over-used term). Those Projects that one / you undertake .. besides being very relaxing and satisfying, in themselves, develop, hone and entrench Skills that can be transferred to and utilized in other Applications .. part of 'the Journey'. Johanna my friend, please continue doing what YOU enjoy most. I (and I am certain that there are many of me) am quite content to sit in the passenger seat, observe and enjoy the ride. Although .. passing the odd comment or 'chirp' (as befitting any 'back seat driver' / passenger 😉) warning of possible road hazards ahead would hopefully not be too frowned upon 😊. One looks forward to your Posts. You make it look easier than it actually is .. testimony to lots of forethought, planning and preparation .. all credit to you ⭐. That Cook Pot of yours looks so much like one of my own (and a favourite) .. a 'salvaged' (from the kitchen .. hush 🙊) Stainless Steel 'Tea Caddy' with a Wire Handle put on. Until next time .. please take care out there .. be alert and stay safe .. Tommy

Tommy, thank you for your kind comment! Glad you liked the shelter and the door. And you are right, what I enjoy most is being in nature and doing things with my hands - it helps me calm down and feel peaceful - worry-free. It offers me joy and I feel content, despite being tired. So I am very blessed for being able to go on my trips. And for being able to bring some of that joy to my viewers. I wish you all the best, Tommy! Good night, dear friend!

As ever, much of the learning and sharing is in your extended description! The photography is very well-composed and lit. In MY youth, I also had a poor experience with a 3-Season tent on a weekend winter camp in deep snow. I knew nothing and was expecting to learn a lot from my friend, who was an experienced Boy Scout, working on a winter camping merit badge. I DID learn a lot: we made many basic mistakes. Some of them make me 'cringe' from embarrassment to this day. We could not light a fire; we slept on the snow, shielded only by a plastic tarp for flooring. We HAD piled enough snow around the base of our tent to hold it in the winds. OUR idea of water supply was to drag a 20-quart milk can of water, mounted on a runner sled, through drifting snow, up the steep side of a glacial deposit called a drumlin. At least the water in the can did not completely freeze overnight...or over the weekend, once we managed to create fire. Later in life, my wife and I found ourselves in a similar situation. The 3-Season tent was not enough protection. We did have each other for shared warmth. We did have a quality wool blanket to spread over our joined sleeping bags. And we did have a reservation at a fine inn just down the hill from our National Forest camp ground.
