NEW BUILD: Building a Woodland Viking House Bushcraft Shelter with my Dog | Hand Tools | Axe | Ep.1

BUSHCRAFT TOOLS

Күн бұрын

In this video, I begin building a bushcraft woodland shelter using the left-over materials from my previous 'lean-to' shelter. The tools used in this build consist of; a saw, axe, knife and a scotch-eyed auger (available from www.bushcrafttools.com).
Having read through all of your comments, I decided to go with the majority vote and choose to re-use the materials, without any need for sourcing extra wood. Amber usually takes up 'most' of my bed, so I'm hoping the new bed will be big enough for us now! What do you think?

My uncle saw me watching a bunch of these videos and he said that when he did bushcraft he always took a pencil sharpener. He said he would use it on sticks and then use the shavings for building up a fire.

And if you decided to write measurements on your hands with a bic pen, you can wash it off with milk if you have some in the woods.😊

Great work and video as always Dustin. Where there's more snow, a shelter like this gains a lot of cold-weather insulation from snow cover. You could probably use a layer of leaves near the bottom of the walls/roof to retain some heat. As this is a smaller shelter, you might try for some removable or foldable furniture, maybe a table against the back wall. How about trying a greased paper window? It's good to see that Amber still enjoys watching you work!

So glad you’re back. Missed you and Amber terribly. I was worried about the demolition of the debris shelter knocked the wind out of your sails. So very happy to see new vids. You’re a genuine soul. A gentleman, and a true bushman. God speed Dustin. Much❤ from the States.

The dowels in the bed rails are a vast improvement over stakes in the ground. It will be more stable and last longer. Appreciate you always making Amber's comfort a priority. Good teaser for the mystery project in the next video. Looking forward to it. 👍

When I turned eleven my dad was transferred to Portsmouth, NH with the 509th BW of our Air Force. It was a brand new AFB built during the end of the Cold War. It had been a huge farm just West of Portsmouth with an included lake. We lived ther for five years. We built many small structures in the woods like these held together with vines and brambles.

Excellent build and it'll be awesome to watch it progress. Yep, extra wide bed is a great idea as Amber would rather sleep on top of you instead of on a separate bed. Hmmm, brand new, a folding table. "What would I build", maybe an indoor firepit for cooking and warmth in inclement weather. 👍

Am I the only one who lives on a rock. In all these videos they are always just hammering a stake into the ground like it's not. Where I live, with a 4 lb. hammer you're lucky to drive a piece of 1/2" rebar into the ground 6" you damn sure ain't driving a wood stake enough that it will even stand there by it's self

Were MY IDEAS miraculously melded with your skills, I would do much as you have done. I would NOT rely on the A-Frame shelter because of the hard-to-use space just under the eaves. Good Luck with having Amber snuggle in there! Going forward, I would make provisions for a safe stove and chimney stack. I'd LIKE to see a cedar shake roof. (I would buy in the shakes.)
