Software, streaming and the internet in general has destroyed music. It didn’t level the playing field. It saturated it with talentless people with software and an audio interface. Everyone think they can produce. Kids with no music training are making beats with loop packs and computer software. They’re just stacking loops til it sound like something. I remember a time when producers were getting $250,000 a beat, now we talking $26 dollars. $26 dollars. lol. It’s not worth it. These kids are more concerned with getting a million likes instead of a million dollars. The music game is wack. 💩

@@lordodanobunaga9815500? First things is understanding who you are selling to. You are selling to people just like you who are probably broke af, and got family and bills to take care of. That is your costumer. 500 for an exclusive license maybe. And keep in mind the majority of your costumers ain’t making a cent off their music. You might say that’s their issue, but it’s actually yours too, cause best believe their family, bills, and if any profit will be on the comeback are In play, everytime before they ever hit that purchase button. I have non exclusive mp3 licenses set at 15$ and it’s STILL like pulling teeth to get a potential costumer to buy, with constant conversations over days and weeks back and forth. even with sweet as bulk deals tied to the mix if they want to grab multiples. No one has 500 laying around to purchase a beat especially if they paying 500 for a beat anyone can just purchase and have too. People still can’t even afford to upgrade to a ps5 that would give them endless amounts of fun and entertainment and you want to sell them a beat that cost them even more then that ps5 that won’t gain them back anything except dead hopes and dreams lol. You gotta understand your costumer if you want them to buy.

We did a promo campaign years ago and were profitable, but only after about 2 years. Bottom line though, it was profitable just off of Beatstars alone. None of the beats were mixed, I think it just comes down to musicianship at the end of the day. If you're good at guitar and people tell you you're good live, it'll sell even if you don't mix it.
@ThisIsDLSMade
@ThisIsDLSMade 5 ай бұрын
Here’s the reality. Selling your beats for higher than the average, will not bring you costumers. You are trying to use psychology tactics to make profit without fully understanding how that psychology works. If I had a huge social following or something else to leverage then you just might. Cause at that point you aren’t just buying a beat. You are buying the beat with the name behind it. Think of when beats headphones were everywhere. All your favorite celebrities were wearing them, and that made you want them too, because if someone with money was rocking them that could buy any kind of headphones then they must be good, and then you have the feeling of status that brings cause now you own it too. You need to understand your costumer. You are selling to the masses. The every day person who can probably barely afford their bills and food on the table for the fam. That’s why beats are priced as low as they are. Understand the majority of your costumers aren’t making a dime off their music. And best believe before they hit purchase on any of your beats they taking account for all of that. I put my beats at 15$ for an mp3 license as an experiment to see if this increased sales. My mp3 license was originally 30. I have had absolutely no difference in sales. Matter of fact I’ve had conversations over weeks with artists who intended to buy and still haven’t, and that’s at 15 for an mp3 lease! Another tip is stop looking at beats like they are gonna make you rich. A quarter of a million dollars is a lot of money a year and you shouldn’t be designing your prices around that. Stop accounting for time investment and money invested on software and hardware in to your prices. The costumer doesn’t care about any of that. Music Producer will always be an investment game first, and you may never get back what you put in. You want to make money off this you better take the time to learn who you selling to and their needs. And understand it’s a side hustle. If you lucky maybe you’ll hit it big and can make some real cash. But always remember, someone has to stock the milk. Everyone can’t be a millionaire.
@MIQVERSE
@MIQVERSE 3 ай бұрын
I respectfully disagree. This is not the reality for everyone. Like with any business it is necessary to build an actual brand. Most producers put a lot of energy into making beats but don't apply the same due diligence to learning business. Yes there are a lot of producers in the market however most believe all they have to do is upload beats to a platform like Beatstars and maybe make some beat videos for their KZbin channel and wait for the sales to roll in. With that strategy you are just another number. You have to figure out how to build a brand and distinguish yourself from the market. As far as pricing if all you have to offer is the lowest price then you are in a race to the bottom and that race is always saturated. There is not just one market segment and all artists are not broke and struggling to make ends meet. If you are trying to be everything to everyone then all you are going to accomplish is being nothing to anyone. Mindset matters though many do not believe this is true. I also disagree with the sentiment that everyone can't be a millionaire. Everyone can create opportunity to build wealth however most won't because they have a scarcity mindset or lack the tools or courage to keep going when obstacles present themselves. Just my thoughts.
@ThisIsDLSMade

@@MIQVERSE I appreciate your comment! I think naturally both our opinions will differ because we are both on different sides of the spectrum. So I’ll imagine in the end we’ll both agree to disagree lol. Firstly to address the reality this isn’t for everyone, this is true. But it’s the majority. And while I do agree that most just do the bare minimum and expect results, that’s also not the reality for everyone. You can work very hard to build a brand, and still not stand out because at the end of the day the market is still saturated. Acquiring costumers is no easy feat when the same artists you are trying to acquire having hundreds of other producers in their dms doing the same exact thing. At that point your brand doesn’t matter, cause they ain’t gonna ever click on your profile to ever even see it. Selling your beats at a more premium price will do zero for you unless you have already established your brand and a costumer base for everyone to see. Remember they don’t know you. A stranger with no following? They don’t care. A stranger with a following? They might be curious. I don’t expect people to sell extremely low but if you are selling much higher then most and have no numbers to state why you are higher then the rest, sorry. No one is buying. No matter how fire the beats are. I’ve had beats that have gained traction with tons of likes and not a single license sold for em. I agree that everyone can put themselves in a position to live comfortably, but it also just might not be in the way you wanted to initially. (For example, not in music) The system is specifically designed this way, just look at the credit system. You’re not even raised with a proper education to get you out the door on your feet, unless your parents were able to provide you that knowledge. Which many don’t, meaning many suffer from generational poverty. I think this topic goes deep and I’m not trying to make excuses for the ones who don’t succeed at this specific thing, but I think for even someone as you who may be succeeding has to still keep in mind that making a living off this is not an easy task whatsoever. It’s hard. It’s not impossible, but the reality is most won’t ever make a living off this, even when discovering the tools to help. The last thing I’ll add is that money helps a ton when building a brand. I’m gonna assume you have placed an ad at least once for your brand. Shoot even game from busy works beats right here has stated putting thousands upon thousands of dollars in ads for his content and such since the beginning. Obviously this is just part of building a brand, but just stating that sometimes “building” the brand isn’t just the knowledge gained but the money you can throw at it to get it placed in people’s faces. This comment is way too long but the TLDR is that it’s not impossible of course. But it’s not easy, even when utilizing all the tools to your disposal. BUT premium prices above the mass will only hurt you if you have no following. Most aren’t a Gucci brand able to sell high off brand recognition, and to tell people otherwise, and that, THAT will make them seem more premium of a producer, and THAT will lead to sales, is misleading.
@MIQVERSE
@MIQVERSE 3 ай бұрын
@@ThisIsDLSMade let me first say I appreciate having this conversation and both of us respecting each others viewpoints. lol I am sure you are aware sometimes that is not always the case. Let me be very clear, I by no means am saying licensing beats or building a brand is easy. There is definite work involved. I do think we have a different viewpoint on what building a brand is though. You can build a brand without having money. A brand from my point of view is more than a name like Gucci or even a premium price point. It is how you show up in the market. What makes one producer different than the other producers online selling beats? Do you specialize in a certain sound or do you produce everything? Are you even talking to the right artist to begin with? Do you know what artists you should be talking to at all? Brand building for me is what people say about me in the marketplace. Now I do agree when you have funds it can be an asset however I know a ton of producers who threw a bunch of money into ads and got no ROI because they had no idea who they were trying to reach beyond them being a rapper or a singer. I am by no means saying price your beats at a premium and the artists will come flocking. What I am saying is that if your business is not succeeding there might be a need to reevaluate your approach as opposed to just subscribing to the market being oversaturated. Producers have been saying that since the very beginning of leasing beats online yet new producers are making a living selling beats every year. I totally respect your thoughts I just hate to see talented people give up believing they can build a business doing what they love.

This is similar to mixing and mastering on engineears. People shop around for the cheapest possible price in hopes that it brings in more clients which then lowers the value of engineering as a whole. I think to truly make money you have to think outside of the box and come up with something that most people have not yet done. As to what that is you have to be creative enough to figure that out and disciplined enough to keep trying without quitting.

Also kind of devalues your music I think just having a few focuses is more important considering most people know how to rip stuff, KZbin is definitely not a good place to upload music. I feel like not in the beginning at least.... I've learned this the hard way. Most of my sales have come through B stars and actually just posting on Instagram but that's just me. There not worth hundreds or thousands of dollars bc for every beat you get atleast 10 others have it.. even if you get an exclusive people already have paid a lease on it and have it..

I sold 1 or 2 but I don't post on it. You gotta post and then use social media to attract buyers

@@FiGMiNT Bro don't ever feel like your beats trash...No beat is trash unless u really a complete beginner because every beat we put out is really a demo bro because more shit will be added or taken out and edited when it's time for a rapper to jump on it. It take talent to use a beat that's different or sometimes it take for you to direct them with a demo. But dont ever get discouraged or think ur sh** trash music is music...

@@iceprada2 same, i just upload, and leave it, what i'm interested in is building a cult fanbase because eventually i get bored of things and end up changing aliases, i've done it about 3 times and people still followed me aand buy from me, i rarely promote, or shove in peoples faces i just post and they listen/buy/share , now that I look at it thats an opportunity most people dont have (now that i'm reading the comments on this video) I should be more business oriented and capitalize on it, rather than just a hobby because really all the shit i make is just out of hobby because I have this fascination of hearing something that sounds cool and wanting to make my own version of it
