I bake a lot but haven't made buttermilk biscuits from scratch in many years. I'm a bread addict and had a craving for them, so I baked these biscuits today. They are delicious with a pot of beans and ham. Also had some just with butter. I may start making these regularly because I don't have to buy self-rising flour with this recipe.

From a Southerner who has grown up making Buttermilk Biscuits a good trick is keeping your dry ingredients cold too. The trick to a fluffy, flakey layered buscuit is working quickly with cold butter. Having cold flour, etc helps a lot in that endeavor.

Thank you, @Jenny Can Cook! The recipe I'd learned to make was really heavy on the lard AND butter because my late husband's family was who taught me, and boy, they LOVE their fats!! Not that I don't love the fats too, but not as much. Your version is more to my liking, but I'll probably keep to the full fat buttermilk, if I can find it. 😉 For some reason, skim milk, non fat yogurt, etc., seems to disagree with my stomach. Maybe something to do with how they de-fat the dairy? Who knows. But I REALLY appreciate your recipes, and how hard you work to develop them and make them easy to make. You're a treasure!! 🍭 🌼😍 🌺

BTW JJ , I remember you from Star Search your talk show -which I thought you were the most polite host host I think I've ever seen .I remember one episode when you had a man on who was American that spoke very poor english . The audience began to heckle him and you reminded your guest like the lady you are saying , " Everybody ,does not have the same opportunity ". You were very tactful and that has stuck in my mind when dealing with people since then . So- your show produced good fruit ! Thank you for that -it's made me a better person Alonzo

I truly wish Jenny would make more cooking videos. I never got through one without laughing. She made her foods the healthy way, and I made them even healthier by veganizing the. This recipe is very similar to one I just watched. She uses less butter in the recipe, she doesn't put them in the fridge for 20-30 minutes to chill the butter again, and she bakes them at higher heat, but less time. Easy recipe. Just wish Jenny would come back.
