"Why do I have to prove my love is authentic? Why do I have to prove my love is authentic? Why do I have to prove my love is authentic?" That brought tears to my eyes.
@satoatsuji83925 жыл бұрын
Why did she repeat that three times.
@dawnmayflower44225 жыл бұрын
Sato Atsuji To add emphasis and prove that particular point home. Us queers are seen as “other” and I know of cases in which lesbian couples are assumed to be sisters or close friends despite being close, holding hands, sharing affectionate touches, kisses... everything that a straight couple does and isn’t stared at for or explained away by. Sometimes even when the gay couples say that they are together they are not believed. The poet is drained and furious and just wishes that her sexuality, love and relationships were taken seriously and that they wouldn’t be questioned, thus her repeating that phrase more powerfully each time. Hope this helps 😁✌️

@@dawnmayflower4422 Oh ok I understand now. I just wish she didn't say dear straight people over, and over. It to me at least gets very very annoying. I love how she’s expressing anger in a healthy creative way. When homophobes accuse you of not being able to forgive or turn the other cheek, say this. Jesus said on the cross, “Forgive them father, for they know not what they do.” He said to forgive, not to forget the wrongs they did and what they’ve done to make you angry, but to fully feel through that anger so you can finally feel enough peace to forgive. Jesus said, “For they know not what they do.” He was saying they were ignorant, not innocent. When going against homophobes, we’re not telling they don’t deserve the basic human right of deserving love, we’re instead curing their ignorance by informing them of what they’ve done wrong. That’s why we call God the father, or if you prefer, the mother. A parent disciplining their child calmly rather than yelling - a little kid would throw a tantrum saying it’s not real love, but for some reason, homophobes say the exact same thing.

Every time I see this video I tear up. I was 12 and attending a Christian school the first time I saw this video. When people ask me about when I knew I was queer I tell them I always knew but In reality I didn't. Yes, I looked at girls differently than most girls. Yes, I was drawn to pictures of lesbian couples. Yes, I imagined what it would be like to marry a girl at a young age. Yes, I felt shame everyday because I knew there was something different about me. I didn't accept myself. I was terrified. When I saw this video it was like the lights turned on. When I saw this video I couldn't stop hearing the words in my head. When I think about when I knew I think about this video. I think about how It introduced me to lgbt poetry. I think about how I came out to a friend a week later. That day I'll never forget. I tear up when I see this video because I remember how horrible I felt about myself before I saw this video. This video made me feel ok. It made me feel less alone. It made me realize I don't always have to change her to him in my poems. It made me feel like I wasn't insane or disgusting. Thank you Denice Frohman for this poem that made me accept myself. Thank you for helping me realize that I am queer and that there is nothing wrong with that.

My best friend just came out as gay and her parents kicked her out almost immediately. It was hard to see the person who helped me go through Unthinkable things one person couldn't believe could happen, waited till I was asleep, to get up and go to the bathroom and cry at night. This person who I know is so strong, break. Just because she wants to love a girl, like no one has ever loved her. Yes I may never understand her pain of coming out as a beautiful gay women. But I do know how it feels like to not be except. I hate how people who are scared to come out rather die because someone doesn't love them, instead of expressing who they are and find their true love. My friend had found her true love, they were so happy together. But she sadly couldn't enjoy it for long. She had gotten a letter from her family saying they disowned her and never want to see her. I lost a sister that day but what is even more sad My best friend's lover, had lost her one true love... *sorry for the rant this poem got me

One of my friends got kicked out by his parents after he came out. It's preposterous. The people who become parents, huh? They have no idea they should love their kid unconditionally. I was part of a committee that was trying to get funding for a gay youth shelter that would help kids kicked out of their homes but for whatever reason the committee leader didn't go through with it. Maybe the city didn't want it.

Dear straight people Dear straight people, who do u think u are ? Do u have to make it so obvious that I make u uncomfortable Why do I make u uncomfortable ? Do u know that makes me uncomfortable ? Now we both uncomfortable. Two different things combined in many different ways If u mismatch your socks, you understand Dear hip hop, Why are you fascinated with discovering gay people rap ? Just like gay people ride bikes and eat tofu Dear straight people, I don’t think God has a sexual orientation But if she were straight, she’d be a dope ally Why else would she invent rainbows ? Dear straight people, Why do I have to prove my love is authentic Why do I have to prove my love is authentic Why do I have to prove my love is authentic Why do you have to stare at me when I hold my girlfriends hand like I’m about to rob u ? Dear straight people, You make me wanna fuckin’ rob u Dear straight allies, Thank you - more please Dear straight bullies, You’re right We don’t have the same values You kill everything that’s different I preserve it. Tell me, What happened to Jorge Mercado ? Sakia Gunn ? Lawrence King ? What happened to half of those souls alienated in-between too many high school walls, Who planned the angles of their deaths in maths class, Who imagined their funerals as ticker- tape parades Who thought the afterlife was more like an after party ? Did u notice that hate is alive and well in too many lunch rooms, Taught in the silence of too many teachers, Passed down like a second-hand clothing From too many parents ? Dear Queer young girl, I see you You don’t want them to see you so u change the pronouns in your love poems to ‘ him ‘ instead of ‘ her ‘ I used to do that Dear straight people, You make young poets make bad edits Dear straight people, Kissing my girlfriend in public without looking to see who’s around is a luxury I do not fully have yet. But tonight, I am drunk in my freedom, Grab her hand on the busiest street corner in Philadelphia, zip my fingers into hers and press our lips firmly until we melt their stares into a standing ovation, Imagine that we are in a area of smiling, faces Even when we’re not and even when we’re not We start shoveling, digging deep into each other’s eyes, we say, ‘ hey baby, can’t nothing stop this tonight ‘ Because tonight, this world is broken And we’re the only thing that’s going to keep together - I got u :)

I really loved this poem. The line, _"You don't want them to see you so you change the pronouns in your love poem to him instead of her."_ inspired me to write my own poem. I wanted to share it here, since that line was the inspiration/kinda accidentally reworded it shorter ^^; _"My Love Poems"_ Writing her, erase to he, so you don't see. Covering the truth, with a facade of lies. In the box, I shall hide. Protecting myself, from all the eyes, especially those of ice. Wretching in fear, laying awake, How does one, let it fade? Compelling me to shout, scream 'it' all about. That is the only way, for it to go away. Maybe you'll listen, hear and figure how: My love poems contain, 'she', with no one else. - *Red*

I don't. Not all straight people are the enemy. Straight allies are still straight people so it still alienates us.
@K4tlyons6 жыл бұрын
Lupus Incidus Sorry but, there are more straight enemies than straight allies, and if you feel alienated, imagine how lgbtq+ people feel all the time. It’s a poem with a message, it should be obvious that this poem is talking about the straight people who want us dead and the ones who silence us and treat us like there’s something wrong with us, if you as a straight person never did anything the poem claims straight people did, then it’s not talking about you. So you have no reason to feel alienated.
@emmarose78866 жыл бұрын
Katelyn Josi it doesn’t matter if there are more enemies than allies. this poem still alienates both. and the allies should be respected as much as the lgbtq+ community. this poem is called ‘dear straight people’. not ‘dear straight enemies’ its directed at all of them. that is still wrong.
@lupusincidus6 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly Emma Rose! I mean imagine if straight person published a poem called Dear Gay People that ranted on about all the things they do that bothers them. There'd be uproar! Because it's prejudiced and discriminatory. But if a gay person does the same to straight people, it's fine? Double standards. This is the problem with the world right now. It's not getting rid of discrimination. It's just flipping it on its head and saying "okay now discrimination against group A is fine but discrimination against group B no longer is"
@coldplaywroteyellowforme81776 жыл бұрын
Not all straight ppl are either allies or enemies. some support it but dont go to the extent of waving a pride flag... and u also have those homophobic gayss ( and as a bi girl I've dealt with this personally. Clementine Pandora I disagree. The LGBTQ community shouldn't just sit down and take whatever oppression comes their way. If you want something done, you have to change it. I'm not saying it'll be easy, but if they continue to fight for their basic human rights, the world will grow with a population that has less and less homophobia each year.

That line she said about changing pronouns in poetry was so real to me cuz I've been writing songs since I was 12 and I would use pronouns for females and it wouldn't even feel right to me cuz I knew I wasn't straight. Now I'm 20 and when I write it's directed towards those of my sexual preference (which are guys). Poetry, songs, pretty much any form of writing that comes from within should be open and honest. If you write, don't change the pronouns to someone that you're not attracted to. That's like eating cookies when you know you prefer brownies. You don't gotta be 💯 with everybody, but you need to be 💯 with yourself. Everything's better that way, trust!
