It’s like an addiction I keep going back to, reliving an incredible moment through someone else’s ears and eyes. I’ve discovered many good reactions from vocal coaches and musicians and slogged through some truly awful ones by people who think they know something about music- but clearly don’t. Doesn’t matter, I still get a thrill. But today I feel like I won the lottery! Never have I ever come across a reaction and analysis this good! Your ability to hear the notes and explain Dimash’s vocal dynamics in such an understandable way is just beyond amazing. And your voice! This is pure gold to me! Thank you - a great reaction/analysis. This was Dimash some four years ago now (aged 22). He comes from a musical family in Kazakhstan and at the age of 5 it was discovered that he had perfect pitch. He cannot remember not wanting to be a singer. He has studied music all his life and has had the best vocal coaches (particularly Marat Aitimov who is a genius and trained Dimash’s mother in operatic singing). Dimash sang soprano in a choir until his mid teens as he was better than the girls 🤣. He went to university and everyone expected him to study opera (he was offered a place in the Astana Opera) but instead he chose to study ‘contemporary music’ for his undergraduate degree, he then went on to study for his Masters in ‘Composition’ gaining 100% and has now just embarked on his doctorate in ‘Musicology’. He is very intelligent, has studied hard and is a musician to his core. Alongside that, he is an incredibly humble, spiritual young man who you will discover sings with his whole body drawing you in to the emotions of a song - they often have very moving backstories. Thank you again 🙏🏼 Plymouth UK 🇬🇧

I'm sorry to say that but his mispronunciation was not due to his nervousness, he was just ill-prepared for this performance : In this version not only did he pronounce 3 silent "s", he also repeated many lines as you can see from the subtitles that he isn't actually singing the entire song but only a repeated part of it. However, he made another version of this song later which is stunningly perfect : No mispronunciation, no repeated line and almost no accent. Incredible.

He was trained through the voice change of boys to men and kept his soprano range. He is still in his mid twenties, has a six octave range and has the best control over his instrument I have heard in my lifetime. I am aware that there is some difference of opinion with respect to "head voice & falsetto". In his case it doesn't matter because he has both and .his transitions are seamless. Jim Kelly

He's been classically trained since age 5, degrees in folk and pop music and a masters in composition. He's performed in over a dozen languages, but is Kazakh, has native fluency in Russian and now can speak a bit of Chinese and English, which he couldn't four years ago when this was filmed. At the time he was not well known outside of Kazakhstan. He also plays piano, guitar, drums, and lots and lots of folk instruments. On stage he's gone from C2 to D8. Even more impressive, he's a genuinely nice guy and just barely starting to become well known on a larger scale. Can't wait until the next time he comes to North America. This song, cover of a French pop song as I'm sure you know, was kind of his introduction to the larger world audience, but frankly isn't one of his more impressive performances.

@@jessicasopranonotes It's a really good idea to go in order of the performances. Most people recommend newer songs like "Sinful Passion" next, but if you follow the 2017 "Singer" show (this here was his first performance there) you'll see quite a cool mix of styles and entertainment values - AND you'll see him grow, because believe me, he gets even better! Next would be "Opera 2" (original by Vitas), no opera, but fun and flirty. Treat yourself to the "full version" with a tiny bit of after-show events, it shows his personality. His dad was in the audience and surprised him, Dimash later said if he had known his Dad was there he wouldn't have been so flirty ^^: kzbin.info/www/bejne/noHNdoilhcxgl8k Episode 3 is "The show must go on" by Queen - dimashified ;) (His English is not good there, he learned the song phonetically in one week, at that moment he didn't speak any English.): kzbin.info/www/bejne/q52WnKN7ZtaWpdk For episodes 4 "Late Autumn / Autumn Strong", 7 ("Daididau") and 8 ("Daybreak") make sure you know the backstory - either through Google or watch the backstory on Gloria Wu's channel, she has English subs and backstory. This was 3 years ago when his French and English pronounciations were not that good. Please take a look at the same song just one year later. You'll be shocked at the improvement of both his pronounciation and voice (!!??). I think you can already tell from this one video how he can use his voice to sing pop, rock, opera, Popera (pop/opera), and pretty much whatever he wants. His continuous development is amazing and now he's improving his dance and rap! LOL! Oh, and he sings in 12 languages and plays different instruments. I envy your Dimash discovery journey.

This guy is MADE of Music. Genre has no meaning for him, nor does language. He's the Emperor. The competition in 2017 was the first to have a foreigner in the mix. Dimash was the only foreigner, the wild card and the youngest person in the competition. This is the performance that opened that show AND the season for the show that year. Just imagine having to follow this act... Almost everybody was completely surprised with this (besides the talent scout who convinced him to fly to China). That night he went viral in and around China so he was famous before he landed back in Kazakhstan, a literal overnight sensation. And of course, it has not stopped since. At the time of this filming, Dimash didn't actually speak French at all. He had the lyrics translated so he knew what the song was about, he had some pronunciation tutorial or other and he had it phonetically spelled out for him on the teleprompter (plus a certain amount of memorization from listening to the original version many times), but he did not have the entire language under his belt. As you may know already, many French people are like rabid dogs jealously guarding their language and they love to jump on people who don't speak it or sing it PERFECTLY right out of the birth canal. Some of them jumped on Dimash via the internet over this performance. They were very quickly jumped on in return by A BILLION Chinese people who didn't care so much about his language skills nearly as much as they cared about his ability to evoke emotion through his sound. As for that twelve-note change at the beginning of the song, he took a breath and reset. He did not slide downward (but I have no doubt at all that he COULD have if he wanted to). Hey, I love your reaction videos for the way you break down the technical stuff! With this video, you're actually teaching a class on How To Cross Genres While Singing. I think you would make an AWESOME teacher, by the way. :)

Dear Lady, totally delighted with your analysis of the song performed by Dimash. I want to introduce you to him a little. He is from a family of singers from Kazakhstan, his mother has a classical operatic voice, his father is more pop. Dmash knows how to play seven instruments, writes music, there are songs where his music sounds, He will finish the piano class, as well as the composer department at the university, and now he is studying there in the graduate school. Some believe that the range of his voice is six octaves and five semitones, in one of the songs he played the note D-8, before that he took the notes D7, U-7 and U-8. Everything that Dimash does, he does absolutely, no wonder his real name Dinmukhammed is translated as Sent by God. Even this year in August he himself shot a video for the song in his performance.

This was the best and most knowledgeable analysis of SOS by Dimash I have seen so far. I guess that you would have been able to go on forever explaining other parts of the song. Although he had displayed a fair amount of his sound qualities, you haven't heard them all. A good song to continue is Sinful Passion a spectacular where he shows more of his lower register, puts in a central Asian singing technique, and ends with a 23-second-long phrase that includes slides, crazy high mix, a key change, and RnB-type runs. Does that trigger your interest?

Dimash is a phenomenon from Kazakhstan, he started singing lessons and 5 when it was found he has perfect pitch. He is university educated with degrees in classical opera, another in contemporary music, pop and jazz with a major in vocal. He also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has just (18th June 2020) completed his Masters specialising in Composition, and receiving his Masters degree with Honours, having achieved the maximum score of 100% and has just started his PhD. His range is over 6 octaves (7 now) but Dimash is dismissive and says it's not how big your range is but what you do with it. He has won many prestigious singing competitions and is a decorated national treasure in his native Kazakhstan. He sings in 12 different languages, speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is pretty good with English but is still studying it along with Mandarin which he says is a very hard language to learn but again he is doing well with it. In this performance he was 22 and in a competition for famous professional singers in China he was invited as a wildcard and after this one song was catapulted to stardom and is now a pop superstar in China. He is now also famous in Russia mainly for his neo classical work with Igor Krutoy and many of those works are very operatic. His vocals range from a rich bass baritone through to an extremely high soprano and his whistle register has hit a D8 for 5 seconds with vibrato. He is on a solo world tour tight now and in his concerts he sings for around 3 hours with an eclectic mix of styles. He is from a very musical family both parents and his sister sing, mother is a soprano. Dimash was offered a place with the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but turned it down to follow his own path and he has been very successful thus far, but I suspect world domination will soon come his way. He is a multi instrumentalist too and is very competent with 8 instruments but can play just about anything. He is 26 now, and is mostly known as a live performer, he has released a triple platinum album in China though. It has been recognised that his high notes are not whistle, but head voice, Dimash rarely uses his whistle register but when he does its spectacular like everything else about him. He has billions of fans worldwide and I am definitely one of them, and he calls us his Dears, as we are all as dear to him as his family, and he means it, he knows who helped to make him famous. He is a softly spoken, polite, elegant and very humble respectful young man. He deserves every bit of the success he is having, he has worked very hard for the past 20 plus years and now his dreams as a young 5 year old are coming true. There is an interview he did for BBC World Service in 2018 where the interviewer showed a drawing he did when he was 5 of him singing on a big stage with microphones, speakers and his beloved music cassettes showing his desire to be where he is now. His recent sellout world tour has been postponed due to the covid-19 epidemic but will restart when its safe to do so. He has concerts lined up in Dusseldorf, Prague and Minsk there will be others. Thank you for your reaction, please do more, he has more than enough videos on KZbin. Bravo Dimash 💖

hey ! that song is called "S.O.S d'un terrien en detresse" . it was written by Daniel Balavoine (french singer ) at the time of the screening of that show Dimash actually learned the song by sound alone without any help on the pronunciation, reason why his lyrics are not correct (he's got it perfected today). this particular song is notoriously one of the Hardest french song to sing due to the vocal range changing constantly throughout the whole song . what he does (the range drop ) is actually how the song is supposed to be sung, it's not just to impress. as a french i can say this clearly .....he nailed it !
@CitronCassis Жыл бұрын
For those who want more info: Daniel Balavoine, singer and writer of the song, was 🇫🇷 genius of music and an excellent singer who died very young. He has other excellent songs. The song is made for the vocal range of Daniel. He was passionate about humanitarian associations in Africa and before he died, he was in Africa for an association. He got invited to watch the Paris Dakar competition. On his way to watch the competition, the helicopter had an accident in Mali where he, along with the director of the Paris Dakar contest, 2 journalists and the pilot died. There are still questions about this accident. He died very young, and was very missed by the public and never got to begin the English career he wanted (he was planning to form a group in London). His friend Michel Berger (another French singer who died very young not very long after him) wrote a song for him : Évidemment, singed by France Gall , his wife. A very popular song in France as well.
@Orgasnick9 ай бұрын
Michel Berger also composed s.o.s and the lyrics are by Luc Plamondon, written for the pop opera Starmania. Balavoine was still an incredible singer, but he didn’t write this song
