Don’t agree with that. I bought a proper wheelbase, wheel and pedals after upgrading from a T300 and now have zero incentive to upgrade. The buy once cry once idea isn’t about people who can’t control their GAS, it’s about skipping mid-tier stuff for those who knew they were going to upgrade later anyway, thus saving money.

There's also a TON of G27/G29 mods everywhere, so if you want to do the exact opposite of "buy one cry once" and be (very) cheap in comparison, you can change the pedal springs, get magnetic paddles, mod the shifter, etc... And also get a car seat from a scrapyard.

Yeah, I'm still crying as I was using this same mantra during the Black Friday sales. Spent big $$$ on a new rig, wheel base, wheel and pedals... However, I believe I will have made a rig that could last me for 10 years, and will not make me feel like I will be lacking in any aspect. I got some great sales, so although I spent big, I'm actually really happy with my purchase and certainly looking forward to putting it all together in January when everything arrives. Buy once, Cry once, Happy for a long time 🤗

Another way of saying it, according to my family, is "cheapness costs" it's better to get quality then to have to keep replacing the cheaper one. I did just that when I went from a G29 to a Sim Magic Alpha and P2000 pedals. In hindsight I wasted money upgrading the brakes and wires and more only to realize that it would never feel like a direct drive with load cell brake. My cheapness costed me.

If you end up with two driving rigs because you bought better versions of literally everything once you knew you were into the hobby, you can use the old one for multiplayer or playing old arcade racers (where you'd want the screen in a different place vs the wheel anyway compared to a sim rig).

I had a G923 which was a good wheel all things considered, but the pedals, particularly the brake let me down because of the potentiometers getting dirty so easily. You don't want to have to detach it and take everything apart, and the last thing you want to see when you are hauling down Mulsanne is your brake coming on or your gas pedal jumping around and not going to 100%. Otherwise, it was good. That's my low-end caution. I did a minor step up and am much happier. Direct drive is the way. Have fun and don't forget the actual driving. It's what got us here.

I had these as well, my big issue was the pedals were too close together, I have big feet. Then I got a DD and load cell pedals..Can’t go back lol, I tried too because my first base bricked (under warranty) so I tried mounting my 923 again and I just couldn’t lol!!

its a valid argument. I own a g920, and I feel it's enough for me as a hobby. my sense at the moment is that I don't want to spent more it for now, for the types and frequency of games I play. I do think, more expensive don't always means higher quality. Your previous video mentioned flex in a circuit wheel, and maybe it isn't worth it, then there a question of longevity of software compatibility. it is a buyers market for rims, and there's been a lot of new ones being release, that itself is a slippery slope. I suppose everyone enjoy finds that sweet spot (or not) in terms of budget.

Trouble is, you but cheap Logitech etc to start with and it's great. Then you buy something better, a new stand. Then the logitech might as well not have force feedback as it feels so flat. So you buy a new wheelbase, then you need pedals. And wheels because you can't have just one.. Then your chair is wrong, swivelling around. So you buy..... And so on. We're the frog in the pot, boiling slowly so we don't notice.

It’s all about if you think you’ll enjoy sim racing. Don’t buy because it’s cool, but because it’s something you want to do and invest time in. Some people just buy because it’s a fad or some other reason and live with the regret. Sim racing is the same as racing karts, or tinkering with pcs or any serious hobby etc, it takes time, patience, money and passion. The last one is the most important and keeps you going if the other three are in short supply.

I bought relatively mid-tier gear that I feel will suit me whether I'm a noob or a pro sim racer. I feel most of you can use my equipment and drive fast and wouldn't complain about "feel" or "feedback" or whatever. That's how I shopped. My gear isn't why I'm slow, I'm slow because I'm not good at this yet. That said, as I continue to grow, I feel my gear will enable me to shine and will grow WITH me without having to spend more money.

I’m pretty happy with my sim gear trajectory. Canada has been kind of a bad place to get the gear at a reasonable price for a long time. I’ve gone from a desk mounted g29, to a basic wheel stand (which wasn’t easily available for years), then I got my genocide money and the tgt2 was the best I could get without paying out the ass in border and shipping fees, and finally I’m on that Logitech g pro with a basic cockpit style wheel mount. For the moment, it’s all I really need and I’m very happy with my setup. I’d like to get more simhub/bass shaker additions but I don’t do enough racing currently to justify the expense. Fingers crossed I finally get my ripped neck muscle diagnosed this weekend in the mri injected dye scan I’ve been begging for 4 years now so I can actually start living my life again.

Excellent ending lol. Also, he got a full-time-job, a spouse, and two kids?! Man. I'd keep my G27, my old PS3, GT6, insert disk and play, no config needed whatsoever, to maximize my time actually playing the game. (Funny thing is, I just got AMS2 on sale and the out-of-the-box FFB is good with my G27. Pro equipment requires a lot more configuration.)

Not really, just because you can change a lot of settings doesn’t mean you have to. I setup my gear once for an hour, after that never touched it again, just enjoyed driving. The worst part of a good setup is actually Windows itself, but you don’t get around it if you want proper sim racing unfortunately

The biggest money pit are unnecessary wheels. I see people spend €1k on 3 different wheels, all of them are decent, none are as good as one €600 wheel. Unless you do heavy drifting or rally (guess Oval as well, no clue about that), you really don't need different wheels. You can drive a Miata or M2 perfectly fine with a Formula/GT3 wheel, so consider getting one premium wheel with a full metal build, zero flex, great shifters, good buttons & rotaries, over 3 or 4 less expensive ones. In the end, you can always just use one wheel anyway, so get the best your budget allows. Dashboards are also useless, real drivers don't have a giant monitor in front of them, so they need a tiny one to get their info. It's about differentiating what is luxury (and all the power to you if you want to spend big on luxuries) versus what actually makes a difference. I think the wheelbase and pedals are less prone to useless GAS, because once you found a decent direct drive with the torque you need, as well as pedals that you got used to and just work, there's little incentive to buy anything else.

Only regret so far is the cheapo fake recaro seat I got with my Al profile cockpit. Snagged a barely used GR Yaris passenger seat and couldnt be happier. Next is shakers, then... Clutch pedal, e-brake, and h-pattern...

Fancy expensive fanatec wheel does not have better compatibility than something like g29 because less people have expensive wheels like fanatec so game studios don't always bother to make every niece expensive wheel compatible other than g29 that is really popular and used by most of the player base. Best beginner advice - Get an inexpensive cockpit, a g29 (with usb pedal adapter), and an inexpensive amp/transducer set up. If you like it, welcome to the hobby. You can now start fantasizing over equipment where each component costs more than your entire current rig. If sim racing isn't for you, you're only out five or six hundred and can resale it to get most of it back.

Best way is try out a friends sim rig then EITHER buy a used g29 to investigate further. Or if youre pretty sure buy something in between CSL dd bundle for 400 to clubsport DD/+ with v2/3 pedals depending on your budget. anything beyond that is diminishing returns for a newbie imo. Then you can add on shifters, 8nm boost kit and etc as time goes on and youre sure of what you want. But getting ar least a CSL dd "tier" wheelbase will make sure you dont need to upgrade wheelbase anytime soon. Plus resale value is better in those than if you bought a new g29. Also im using fanatec terms bc that is what im familiar with but comparable teirs on the same level exist with the other brands like moza etc.

I started with used Logitech equipment and ebay chassis. I am now on my 3rd right rebuild that will last me for a long time. Definitely lately get 8020 aluminum chassis and a decent wheel pedal set . Those will last you for really long. I now have asetek Invicta pedals but prior I had simsonn!simjack Amazon pedals that are unbelievable. They were as solid and like then just as much as my asetek. You can buy cheap just make sure that you buy quality. Watch a bunch of reviews these reviewers tell the truth good and bad

i have g29, because im curious and so glad i did so i bought ddpro, i thought yeah i guess i had enough.. 8nm is enough.. but i heard the sweetspot is 12nm so then i bought dd+ turns out i cant really tell the difference with dd pro😅, it took me a few months to finally understand the difference.. i dont regret buying DD+ i love it, the 6.2nm slewrare, fine details, 15nm torque is Super Fun and make my clubsport RS feels more alive.. but its like 8 to 10 than 3 to 8 with g29-ddpro so yeah, i think DD+ is my last wheelbase. if i buy another from fanatec, most likely its their new Porsche vision GT3 wheel, and pedal V4 someday.. oh yeah i just bought v2 handbrake.. still waiting to be delivered🎉 there is always something to buy, but there is no hurry.. just enjoy what u have and buy when u can❤ there is an ending.. just take it slow😊
