My wife and I did the same thing we saved up for a little while so we could buy our car from Toyota for cash. Not only did we not have to pay the high interest rate but the dealer gave us an extra 50,000 pesos off the price. Also, the price that you see is the price that you pay there’s no hidden fees like in the west.

Hi Ginno, you're making the best videos I've seen so far from expats in the Philippines. No debauchery, immediately coming to the core of the topic and well structured. Honest and real presentation of the facts and situations about life in the Philippines. As a German, I particularly like your English pronunciation, speaking speed and rhythm. Every "non-English native speaker" can understand everything. My Filipino wife comes from Ibajay/Aklan and I hope in 1-1.5 years we can see each other when we move from Germany to Aklan.

Hi Ginno! I'm from Luzon, and I was amazed that Toyota in Aklan allowed you to get your Wigo when you paid cash. Most of the times, well, maybe in major cities like Mega Manila, they will ignore cash buyers, or place their business at the bottom last of the list for the month for hotcake units such as Wigo, Vios, Hiace, Fortuner, and Hilux because there is little meat left for the dealership after the sale, and they can hit their sales quota easily

We ordered our Toyota Wigo from Toyota Aklan and it took them a month to get the car to Aklan. I had to put a 10k peso deposit for them to order the car. They called me when the car arrived at the dealership and that’s when I gave them 615k pesos in cash. The dealership gave us a 20k pesos discount for paying cash.

@@dazeltv1351 that's already a good deal :) makes me wonder now as to which would be better should we move to my wife's hometown also somewhere in the Visayas region: get a car in Manila and long drive it, or get one in a local dealership over there? @@guiliangeronimo7474 The car has been great for us; no issues of any kind since we got it in 2018. Best car purchase I have ever made. Shipping a car to the Philippines is not advisable because of the high cost of shipping and import fees. Also, getting it out of the Port of Manila is a challenge. Easier to just sell your car in the U.S. and then buy a new car in the Philippines.

No; we purchased our car brand new. I just looked at my receipt for our car. We bought our 2019 Toyota Wigo brand new for 625k pesos (about $11k). My insurance for full coverage on the brand new car was 14k pesos ($250) a year in 2019. My full coverage dropped each year because the value of the car they insure is less. Unlike in the U.S.; you hardly hear of car insurance being lowered. I pay around 9k pesos now (lesser now than in 2019) for full coverage because our car is only valued now at 300k+ pesos ($6.6k). I’m actually not even required to carry full coverage now. I can actually just buy the third party liability (TPL) insurance for 1k pesos ($18) a year; which I also buy every year. Yes; $18 a year. 😁 Many Filipinos here; all they have is TPL insurance on their cars and motorcycles because that is all the Land Transportation Office (Filipino DMV) requires them to carry.

@dazeltv1351 17 күн бұрын
Hello my friend. It was pretty easy for me when I renewed my drivers license because I am now considered PWD (Person With Disability) in the Philippines. They allow me to get in front of the line. All that is needed for renewal of drivers license is a medical exam; cost around 400 pesos ($7). It's basically an eye exam (make you read the eye chart); eye color vision exam (see if you are color blind); and a hearing test. If you do not have any violations with LTO (Land Transportation Office); your renewal is good for 10 years.

nice video with information on car insurance there. I paid almost 200 usd per month for full coverage on a 2015 Dodge ram, just recently lowered to 112 per month. I had to increase the coverage deductibles just to get the deduction on the cost. It's crazy here in the states. I wasn't planning on driving there, but the 12k price is intriguing. however, I'm not sure about driving in cities like manilla or Cebu due to the craziness there. You are smart to buy new, used vehicles are driven into the ground then they buy another one. maintenance isn't' really on a Filipino's mind. I think I'll stick with E bikes for a while.

Buying a used vehicle is a risky business, and maintenance is just a suggestion. The shade tree mechanics usually do more damage than what they fix, and if you have electrical issues, you may as well junk the car for parts . Just break down and buy an affordable used car that fits your needs . A base model hilux or the expresso are good for foreign men as we seem to be on the larger side, lol . If you have a big family, then a suzuki adv seems to be popular. Anything that is an automatic will be more expensive, and that is just the way it is. Stay away from cvt transmissions in cars, but some twist and go scooters can be great to drive.

I had to learn the hard way when I bought our used Honda Accord. The local mechanic tried; but I felt like he was experimenting with our car. 😁 Once the air conditioning didn’t work; we couldn’t find anyone in Kalibo that could fix it. Took it to a couple of people that fix air conditioning; and all they seemed to do was add freon. It would work for a few days; and then stop working. 😁 That’s why we just decided to just save up our money and buy a new Toyota with cash. I still rode the car without air conditioning to run errands. 😁 Our tricycle, Bumblebee, is what we ride most in our small town. Our Toyota we use when we go out of town or when it’s raining. Take care my friend.

What happens if your car is involved in an accident where there's damage to the car? Will the insurance company arrange removal and repair of the vehicle? Here in the UK, it's all done for us and we can pay an additional insurance and that will provide a hire car while the car is being repaired. Greetings from London. Next time I'm in the Philippines, I will look you up (my wife is from Baguio City). Moving to the Philippines is tempting, but I am concerned about my children's education ect

I actually haven't seen any used cars at the three car dealerships here in Aklan. Trade-ins are not popular here because people like to sell their used cars themselves; usually get more money for their used car. Once in awhile I see used cars being sold by local banks in Kalibo; repossessed cars. But, not often. I'll see if I can find a parking area where some used cars are sold; usually by private sellers when we are out and about in Kalibo. Iloilo City; I know have used car lots.

It depends on the motorbike. If it is a motorbike without the computer chips; like a manual type motorbike. The manual type motorbikes; Filipinos are good at fixing it. Lots of cheap mechanics that can fix it. Because there are so many of them here. The ones that have computer chips; you would have to have a Yamaha or Honda dealership in your area. Which most places do; because motorbikes in the number one vehicle in the Philippines. You have to watch out for motorbikes that have been submerged in flood waters. That's a problem here with motor vehicles.

Higher price in our province of Aklan than Manila; because of the shipping fee from Manila to Aklan. @dazeltv1351

Toyota cars will be a cheaper is Cebu City than the provinces; because of the cost of shipping. Our Toyota Wigo cost us 18k pesos ($320) freight cost from Manila to Aklan province. Depending on the Toyota (Wigo, Rush, Hilux) you plan on shipping from Cebu City to Aklan; the freight cost will be based on the weight and size of the vehicle. Many buy their car in Manila or Cebu City and drive the car themselves; use the ferries to move the car to their province. Dazel and I will probably do that when we purchase our new car in 4 years. 😁

Would you mind talking about insurance a bit more? If you get into an accident, will they pay the whole amount for repairs whether it is your fault or not? If you make a claim, will the premiums go up? Will the premium you are paying cover medical expenses for yourself, your passengers, the other party (if you are at fault)? How much is medical coverage if included? Are you covered if the car is driven by a family member? Thank you.
@dazeltv1351
@dazeltv1351 19 күн бұрын
I read through my policy and this is the best that I could understand from the policy. If you get into an accident, will they pay the whole amount for repairs whether it is your fault or not? Yes; there is a no fault indemnity. The company will pay any claim for bodily injured/or death to any THIRD PARTY without the necessity of proving fault or negligence of any kind. If you make a claim, will the premiums go up? Nothing on my policy states my premiums would go up. I would assume it will. Computer records are not as efficient here. Like police reports of an accident; it's mostly on paper still. I am thinking; if you switch to a different insurance company you can get insurance without stating your accident history. I was never asked if I had any accidents when I got this insurance. Will the premium you are paying cover medical expenses for yourself, your passengers, the other party (if you are at fault)? Pays for 70k pesos for death. 30k pesos for burial. The hospital coverage is too many to list here. For third party; the coverage is around 50k pesos. How much is medical coverage if included? Most of the medical coverage is 50k pesos. Are you covered if the car is driven by a family member? The insured is covered. Any person driving on the insured's order or with his permission. Provided that the person is permitted, in accordance with the licensing law or other regulations to drive the scheduled vehicle.

What’s the process for a U.S citizen to drive in the Philippines and to buy a car there? How hard is it to get a Philippines driver license?
@dazeltv1351
@dazeltv1351 18 күн бұрын
Your first 90 days in the Philippines after arrival; you can drive with a valid foreign driver’s license. Just make a copy of the stamped arrival date on your passport; carry with you when you drive. Not hard to get a driver’s license. It will require you to have an Alien Certificate of Registration Immigration (ACR-I) card. If you stay longer than 59 days in the Philippines; you will need to get an ACR-I card. An ACR-I card holder enjoys certain benefits; such as privilege to open a bank account and get a local driver’s license. To buy a car, you will need a Philippine driver’s license.

@@dazeltv1351 thank you for the kind advice. I’ll be moving to Iliolo in a few years so that definitely helps me understand the process. I’ll probably buy a car there instead of shipping my car too expensive.

@@oaktownist You're welcome my friend. You picked a good place. Iloilo is a great place to live. Yes; definitely just buy a car here. Shipping a car is too expensive and a headache.

Hilux in Central America goes for $30,000 minimum, depending on the extras, and the Rush is similar to the Rav4, with the name change as a difference, rav4 has a 2 liter 4 cilinder engine, hilux engine is a 2.5 liter engine, in 2 gearbox flavor, auto Or mechanical stick shift, whatever float your pride, regards from Boston MA😅

The Toyota Hilux is very nice. Dazel is actually having second thoughts about her dream car now; the Suzuki Jimny. 😃 Toyotas have been a good car for me over the years. I had a Toyota Celica in the U.S. and it was also a great car. Take care my friend. Stay blessed.

Did u literally give them cash fresh from the bank when u bought it?

Yes: Dazel and I went to our bank and withdrew 625k pesos in 1,000 peso bills. Placed the money in my backpack and rode Bumblebee, our tricycle, straight to the dealership. The cashier actually had to count the money. 😅

Can you negotiate with the dealer when you buy a brand new car?
@dazeltv1351
@dazeltv1351 19 күн бұрын
I remember getting a 20k pesos ($350) discount because we paid cash for the car. I haven't seen negotiation on cars here like they do in the U.S. Most of the time; Filipinos are happy they are getting a new car on credit. They are more concerned about getting the credit than negotiating the price.
