Great video! It's totally possible. We bought my husband's car in cash earlier this year. It was so nice to walk away owning the car completely!

Nice "new" car ! Our youngest car is a 2005, too...the other is a 1997. We buy used & pay cash. Do not want car payments! Right now, our '97 has no heat & we're having single digit temps! We are debating....get a different car or just repair it. Lucky for us, my husband knows cars...he can fix them...so when we go looking for a new used car, he knows what to check out. He's good at fixing just about anything which has saved us mucho $$. 😄 Funny how things can change overnight, isn't it?! But you 2 were prepared. That is being smart, frugal, & diligent. The Highlander sounds/ looks great! You provided a wealth of good advice/ info...as usual. Here's hoping 2018 is happy & healthy for all of you. Looking forward to more videos, of course! 🙋

the no heat should be an easy fix. Chrisfix has a good video explaining no heat conditions. there's usually a valve against the firewall that can be opened manually in a pinch

I appreciate your effort to help...my husband knows vehicles very well. This no heat problem is because of something being too thick & clogging the system. It's going to require a major repair, removal of some big part which is over another part. You can tell I'm not the mechanic in the family! 😄 It will be a big job according to my very competent husband. But thank you for trying to help.

1997 Cherokees don't have a valve by firewall. My husband said oil is getting in coolant. There is a leaky head gasket. The head has to be taken off, the gasket needs replaced. & hoses need cleaned. The repair required is a big one.

I have heard even dealerships give a few thousand dollars off for a new car if you pay full price. I believe this is so because the dealer does not have to worry about repossessing in case the buyer defaults. Another trivia, though not directly applicable here, I believe there are prestigious cars like Rolls-Royce or Porches which can only be bought if the buyer pays full-price. My Dad used to say that he was taught, "neither a borrower or lender be". Dad's advice would certainly be right if suddenly interest rates hit the roof.

The car company ceases to own the car once you take financing out on it. They will not reposes it. The financial institution will reposes it.

A large part of the cost of owning a vehicle can be fuel costs. Also, fuel prices can spike in a short period of time. It's common to see people with huge trucks or suvs that really don't need them.

I guess that's one way to do it. I would have got another transmission from a salvage yard and used the opportunity to justify spending some money on some new tools!

FrugalPrepper I wish! We are not the handy types when it comes to cars. So unfortunately we have to pay to have any work done on them. Once we added in labor for the new (or used) transmission it was the same price as a "new" car.

You picked the right car to buy, by any method, cash even better. I have had mine (a 2001) for 18 years and I still love it. Toyota has 4 out 5 of the most sought after used cars and the original Highlander is #3. Any Land Cruiser #1, and the Lexus GX #2. Congrats

I have a 2004 chrysler pacifica crossover in silver that seats 6, paid cash for it it was only $3k, and its honestly a really good car, it did need some repairs tho they were very minor, one recently was a headlight was out but i fixed that and just got the bulbs from walmart and changed them nyself, then there was when i needed to fix my defrost which we did just in time for the new snow we had and the other one was there was a leak in i think my radiator but that got fixed, and those happened almost a year after i got it, it was a christnas present and so far now the only thing i have is a small chip in my windshield but thats not a big deal and we recently switched car insurance companies from state farm to allstate and for the exact same type of coverage we went from paying like $200 a month to now paying like almost $40 a month that is a steal!!! And now we pay more in gas than we do with our insurance and oil changes are up to date, engine is perfect, transmission is perfect, i do wish my car was more fuel efficient because for a full tank its $50 but its a good car and im going to keep it until its totally not driveable anymore and until i do have enough of my own money to buy a newer one but im lucky i dont have a car loan

Love your vids! X I’m saving to buy our car this year, we need something with 6 seats as we don’t fit in our little car now. After watching your goals vid and bank accounts one, I’ve set up a separate savings account for our car fund. I will be paying in cash! Thanks for all the inspiration and info xxx

Great Video. We need a second car for me. I've been looking at the Suburu Forester. We too live in Central NY where winters are horrible here. So I need a reliable car at a great deal. Praying I can find one within our budget. Making sure we do the research and find the right year and the upkeep has been done on them. We shall see. Thanks for the heads up!

I just got a free Subaru Forester, 2019. Inherited it from my mother who passed away in August. Would much rather still have a mother, frankly but its a decent car and it replaces a 20 year old Tacoma. I'm selling the Tacoma to a friend for super cheap who is giving it to a friend of hers who needs a truck.

Wait a minute, your Toyota Rav4 is dead? That's impossible! :D Good video. If everybody plans ahead and put the money aside like you do, the entire American economy is going to collapse as nobody is going to frantically look for a bank loan on a new car.

@frugalgreengirl
@frugalgreengirl 7 жыл бұрын
He normally charges $50 if it's in our city but since this one was in the next city over it was $60 for the extra time and gas. These types of check ups are almost always under 100 though and are well worth it.
