Buying a Used Challenger Out of State? A Story of Success

I share a story of looking for the prized Green with Envy SRT8 and finding one in an unlikely listing from a dealership 800+ miles away.

I went to Ohio from L.A. and back for my 16 New Redline SRT Manual. All options I wanted last Xmas. Love that stupid car. But fuck, that was rough. 4500 miles round trip. I started hallucinating that the clouds on the horizon would turn into hellish demons that would approach me and swallow me whole. Same with the tree branches on the side of the road.

I've done that stuff. A few months back from my 17k mile phantom 13 rt plus 6 spd. For a 10k mile 15 SRT B5 6 spd. 22.5 for my trade . Dent in middle of rear quarter body seam was fixed by my PDR guy. Accident on report front fender and facial, but dealer could not find the blend in the panels. My body Shop does Porsche and other high end vehicles. The Srt need PDR in the hood, had a CAI that I didn't want, but has never seen the rain and has factory interior tags inside still attached. 41k . I am very happy. No upgrades needed. Just returned air cleaner to stocking hellcat, and doing minor things. Worth it!!

Dude, Excursions went out of production in 2005, you're driving a Expedition. No rental company is going to have an Excursion in there fleet. Thanks for the vid, thumbs up. PS, yes I am a Ford guy and your video is helpful as I am looking for a Mustang nationwide.

I bought a 392 Scat Pack Shaker from a dealer that was almost a thousand miles away. I got a great deal on it, and all said and done, probably saved about 5k from buying one local. Totally worth it, and the 13+ hour drive back was super fun.

Best color ever. I love my Octane Red Scat Pack but that Green With Envy is sooooo nice. I wish they would bring it back.

Great story that’s one hell of a drive i was looking at used hellcats out of state myself ( i live in Georgia ) what’s holding me is the appraisal for my 2017 RT since different dealerships offer different prices on top of whether or not the supercharger bearing are bad etc. decisions decisions but keep up the videos man I’m liking this series if you would call it that haha

I drove my 1970 SS Nova by myself from Fresno California to Orlando Florida in 38 hours non-stop (3100 miles) with no heater, AC, radio or cup holders, by the time I got to Texas I was seeing things too, I'm hip man & could never do that kind of drive today.

The other day I was in a parking lot when a Green With Envy Scat Pack Shaker entered the parking lot. I was so damn jealous that I turned and drove away. So yeah it's true that when you see them in person the impact is tremendous.

I live in Florida and purchased my Challenger through Cargurus. The car was at a dealership in Columbia Tennessee. I did the entire purchase over the phone. The salesman was a great guy and did everything possible to get me my car. They even delivered the car for FREE, picked up my trade in as well. Buying a SRT8 without looking at it or test driving it was a bit of a gamble, but I couldn't be happier with the car. It drives great, and looks killer with the Hemi Orange paint. Nobody had a Callenger SRT8 locally at all. Looking at out of state dealerships is definitely a great way to go when looking for your dream car.

Great story. I actually bought my 2008 Pontiac G8 at Denooyer Chevrolet back in 2013. 5 years later and now I am thinking of trading it back to them wheb they have a nice used Hellcat in stock.

I related so much to the door ding. After ~6 months of ownership of my challenger some ass wipe (the person who did it didn’t bother to let me know of course) made a deep door ding on the body line of the passenger door. And same as you an estimate to fix was around $400.

Same here. I had my Challenger for 2 months when hurricane Michael hit. Luckily I was able to evacuate to my wife's nephew's place with the car. Then some idiot backs into the driver side door leaving a long groove all the way down the door in a parking lot. 1200 bucks later it was fixed, and looks great. Luckily my insurance covered most of it.

i saw the Time on this and was like 31 mins.. man wtf... But then i said Eh.. i'll watch it anyway. lol 30 mins flew by i was captured. Great story and i remember the old green with envy from the earlier vids. Coolest color ever. Hope your hunt for Hellcats ends in success soon.

None of my local dealers have what I want. They also don't want to deal other than the Dodge "Power Dollars" deal. I wanted either a 392 Shaker or 392 T/A. I also wanted a low option car with a 6 speed. I finally found a 2019 392 T/A 6 speed about 285 miles from home. I have sent back all the paperwork and a down payment check. I will be picking it up Saturday. I paid less for a brand new car than the local dealers were asking for 12k mile used cars. We're talking $7662 under MSRP. I am not worried about buying a new car sight unseen because it is new and has a warranty.

Great story. The RT you got for 31k was it new? What was the APR you got?

Jeffrey Chavez Yes, that 2013 RT Plus was brand new. $31,400 out the door, if I remember correctly. Bought it in August of that year. I negotiated the hell out of that deal, the GM actually came over to me after and offered me a job because he said I was a better salesman than his guy LOL. don’t remember the ARP on that loan but credit is not an issue so it was low.

I am sitting here in Germany and also looking at a used 1. owner 2015/2016 R/T Scat Pack with low milage in blue pearlcoat with black interior, sunroof, red 6 Piston Brembos and 20" black rims... I have a question: Back in 2008, my friend and I drove 6 hours from Long Island, NY to Utica, NY to trailer home a brand new 2009 Hemi Orange Challenger 6 speed stick SRT8 that only this dealership had. It was completely loaded with all options. At that time when the 2009's just started showing up at dealerships, no one had the one that my friend wanted. So we drive up there and get it. I moved to North Carolina shortly after and never saw the car or my friend for eleven since. We'd talk once every few years on the phone. I gave him a call about a month ago and we talked for a while. I asked him about the car and he said he still has it and it was in perfect condition without a scratch with only 2000 miles on it. I asked if he would sell it to me, and he said yes. Problem is, he wants $30,000. He said he has the 3 inch Mopar exhaust system he bought from the dealership still new in the box he paid $1,500 for. He said he'd give it to me with the car....I need to know if this is a good deal and should I buy it. What are the cons about buying an 11 year old car with so little mileage. Please reply before I make a decision that may be a wrong one.

salvatore bartolomeo Thanks for sharing this story. I hear your concern. In one sense, $30k is a lot for a car that is 11 years old that outlived its warranties and it likely needs new tires and you’re likely to have some issues with the car, just due to the age and natural deterioration. However, with the car cosmetically “perfect” with low miles on that 6.1 liter Hemi, that’s not an unfair price. I’d recommend going with someone who REALLY knows cars well to check it out with you. If it needs new tires, etc you’ve got some negotiating room. On another note, keep in mind that if you’ve got $30k to spend, you can find plenty of used Scat Packs with warranty around that price. Unless that particular car is exactly what you want, I’d consider that an alternative option. Good luck to you!
