Shaun good advice for central hearing, when we ground our Vila on B off plan they told us you only need a log burner, not good enough for larger Vilas, we got central heating put in. we we moved that was the first thing we did pipe where in the wall already just needed the boiler and radiators.

Good information Shaun. And I agree central heating is important, we have it at our summer home at the shore. I loved the clip of you standing outside in snow storm, if I didn't know any better I would say you were back in the UK. Did you a price for me on that fixer-upper you were standing in front of during this video?

Thanks. I like these informative videos. How can you tell if a house has been built with cavity walls? I guess the thickness is an indicator. Also could you please make a video showing how your central heating is laid out?

Thank you, glad you liked the video - I've noticed some of the newer properties spray on a form on the outside and then plaster over - don't know if that's any good to insulate the property. Your the second person asking about my central heating so will add to my Q&A next month. Many thanks fro watching :)

Shaun, there's an easy, efficient, cheap, and durable solution to the problem of winter heating pretty much everywhere the sun shines. All you need is a set of solar water heating panels. Obviously, the number of panels depending on your home size, etc. Install radiators in the rooms you want to be heated, connected with copper piping to the roof's panels. This would be a closed-loop, water/antifreeze mix system, powered by a 12volt pump. And presto.! You've got a maintenance-free system that will last for several billion years and cost you only the initial installation expense and the electricity to power a small water pump. Que te parece, cholito.?

Thank you Juan for your comment and sounds great - wish it was that simple here to fix up. Been trying to find somebody who can tell me why hardly anybody here has no solar power fitted. We have a new solar farm just been set up in the fields near by. Many thanks for watching :)
@juanasenjo85154 жыл бұрын
@ Yes, it seems odd that there aren't enough folks into the solar panel business. I wonder if there are local ordinances or policies banning it.? Given that it's mostly always sunny over there, you'd think most everyone would take advantage of the free sunshine. If there are no housing codes against it, some enterprising people can make millions off installing solar panels for electricity, home, and water heating.!

I think you will find the house you are standing in front of has no insulation in ceilings and roof at all and heat rises . just about all new builds are the same .

@ hi . I am appalled at standards of building here . I am a builder for nearly 40 years. We both come from a cold uk. It's cold here lol. It's a rip off I have worked in so many houses here and feel so sorry for the people who want to live the dream . Fair enough , but freeze 🥶 there watsnames off in winter. Hope you and family are keeping safe and healthy 🙂

Good advice Shaun, potential Spanish property buyers take heed, if the property you have fallen in love with doesn't have proper heating then negotiate a substantial discount. Solar panels in the UK are 99% photovoltaic cells (known as PV), these do not provide heating directly but produce electricity. The type of solar panels for converting sun heat into direct heat are a hydronic system consisting of usually "evacuated tubes" but there are also "flat plate" collectors. These transfer heat into the "wet" system ( water in pipes) which is circulated by a pump to heat a thermal store ( a tank holding water that is heated by whatever means). This solar heated water is then used for domestic hot water of pumped around a wet heating system, such as traditional radiators that are common in the UK. The most efficient means if heating is by a heat-pump. Simplistically put, this consists of a unit on the outside of the property that adsorbes heat from the atmosphere which is pumped into the property to one or several wall mounted units where it is fanned into the room. They look very similar to the air conditioning units that you see, in fact these can be a combined system that provide both heating in the winter and then work the other way around to provide cooling in the summer. Typically these will have a cop (coefficient of performance) of around 3 or above. These units are electrically operated, the cop means that for each kilowatt of electricity they consume they produce 3 kilowatts of heat You can find these available to purchase in the major diy & builders merchants in Spain (Leroy Merlin, Brikomart, Bauhaus). The best type to buy (although a little more expensive) is an "inverter" system as the fan is modulated which makes then quieter and more efficient. They are available at various prices the known brands (Mitsubishi etc) being more expensive. I have a Fagor "split" unit that has one outdoor unit feeding 2 indoor units (lounge & main bedroom) which works a treat. I have had this now for 6 years and has worked faultlessly without any maintenance other than cleaning the dust from the filters twice a year. I hope this is helpful. Keep up the informative videos Shaun, these are an invaluable resource for others to learn, from someone who has years of experience living in Spain.

Great video Shaun and thanks for the advice. We're hoping to have a look at a villa across the road from you; it's in a bad state, been neglected but I'm sure we could get back to being liveable. It doesn't have central heating or air con and the pool is in a sorry state so we intend to use that as a bargaining point. Thanks again for the advice.

Thank you Hayley, if its the one on the roundabout - next door opposite the bar, there is squatters in there at the moment so you could get a better bargaining point! They are no problem and the villa up for sale looks very nice, good luck. Glad you enjoyed the video. Many thanks for watching :)
