lihbee to be fair R.E.M. Sleep is the only kind of a sleep that is beneficial to you. The other kind may make you feel better temporarily but won't let your body heal or "become more awake", for a lack of a better phrase, even though you can't get "hours back" anyways.

20-25 minutes is the golden period. another key factor is that you're not supposed to go into too deep a sleep. you don't even have to feel drowsy. you can stay awake. what you really need is that time to just empty out your mind from EVERYTHING, and close your eyes. another thing that may help those feeling cranky after waking up from a nap is drinking coffee at least 30-40 minutes prior (i.e. while eating your lunch). you may think that's counter intuitive for someone who plans to go to sleep, afterwards but considering it takes ~40-60 minutes for caffeine to start affecting your physiology, you'll be thankful for feeling that fresh right after or soon after a nap. hey, it works for me.
@snapy157 жыл бұрын
Best way to power nap, is to take in caffeine right before the nap. It takes 20-30min for caffeine to take effect so when you wake up caffeine kicks in

It probably would've helped if they'd darkened the room they chose to sleep in, so that there are no lights bothering them. Also, they should perhaps turn off their phones so they won't be bothered by people messaging them. Another thing that helps is soothing sounds/white noise; & if you listen to it with earphones, it blocks out the sounds of other people who might be nearby (either talking or making noise of some kind). I only know this because I use this method to get to sleep, as I have bad insomnia. I also have to keep my room as dark as possible, or else I can't possibly get rested. It isn't easy, getting enough sleep every day; but you simply take whatever you can get... 😴

Nappuccino: chug a caffeinated beverage (not a scolding hot one), put on darkening eyemask/cover face with dark fabric, nap for 20min (silence phone, set alarm) = feel rested AND energized! **Caffeine takes 20min to kick in on average so when you are actually tired and needing a nap, but have stuff to do in the next hour or so, this can work!**

@banannarama4 жыл бұрын
Shane, come on I know this is buzzfeed but you can't tout this as a legit test (even setting aside obvious things just because buzzfeed isn't an anthropology lab... openly, anyway) but what I mean is giving them the exact same puzzle at the end of the week. The first time it was a surprise, and they had never seen it before. Solving it again means subconsciously remembering where the shapes are on the block relative to others, which means at least the rate of improvement the two subjects saw could be expected. I dunno, I'm no scientist either

In the US most of us don't even get a break at our jobs at all unless it's a bathroom break. At my last job there were several times where I had to work 16 hours straight. On my days off I nap and usually feel pretty refreshed after my nap.
@morrius07577 жыл бұрын
I don't nap, what I do is what people used to do in the past. I sleep in two segments. I sleep 4 hours, stay awake for 4 hours, then sleep 4 more hours after that. our bodies were never meant to stay awake 16 hours straight, we only started doing that when light bulbs were invented.

I have fantastic power naps. I take one every day, in fact. I lie down for sixteen minutes, fully flat on the ground, and once my alarm wakes me up, I feel as if I'd had a full night's sleep. The trick is to practice. It sounds counterproductive, but you need to figure out how many minuets is enough - not too much to feel groggy, and not too little for it to not be effective.

Always wondered why naps stop being a thing after pre-school and kindergarten. Seems to me, even if you don't actually sleep, resting your brain for 20-40 min during your work or school day should be encouraged.
