Kids, if someone tells you to lie to your parents, that's one red flag that you should never ever ignore. Trust your instincts or the way your parents protect you. They're not being a killjoy, they fear for your safety since they know how cruel the world is.

Life with the possibility of parole after 25 years is the harshest sentence that can be given in the U.K. and there’s absolutely no chance parole will be granted, the case is too publicly known for him to ever be released. Even if somehow they considered him not to be a risk they would consider the risk to him to be too great since people would seek retribution if he ever were let out.

They were repeatedly ignored and on the day before Christmas she was struck by a car that didn't see her in time when crossing that crosswalk on her way to a voluntary assembly at school. The whole town was crushed by her death. When I took the bus past that crosswalk a couple of weeks later I recognized my friend's dad, sitting sobbing, by the new stoplight.

It's scary how some parents don't teach their kids about horrors of internet before even letting them TOUCH a pc or smartphone. It was really too late in this boy's case.. But just imagine, right when he started to listen to that stranger over his parents, his parents just switch OFF the internet connection, ground that boy, explain the horrors of internet in GORE details. Parents being naive is scarier than kids being naive.

You're assuming a groups of barely pubescent boys have the same logic as an adult. I know this is wrong, you know this is wrong. I as a child was extremely cautious, so I would have immediately showed my mom. However, you can tell these kids aren't cautious. They are naive and trusting (probably not anymore). They blindly trusted this man, idolized him. And the text, "is this real? Is this true?" Shows that even when presented with a gruesome truth, they can not fathom that something so heinous has occured and that someone they all trusted did it.

Yea, they should've just told their parents, not the social media. Show the images to parents. In some places around the world, teens calling authorities to report someone who is mutilated could come off as a prank. Hence it's better for parents to contact police and show the images. Unless the parents weren't home and won't be home for awhile. Then they don't have a choice but to call police on their own.

@@athenanc. you ARE victim blaming. Fully grown adults can be duped by online predators as well, so expecting a young teenager to be savvy to these kinds of situations is not realistic. Your brain doesn't fully mature until your mid twenties, especially the part that helps you to predict and work out possible consequences to actions. Teenagers are more impulsive and prone to act on emotions than to think things through logically, so just don't blame the child. Put the blame where it belongs, on the sick, twisted perpetrator.
