It's hard not to go in when you're sick because you say you can't come and you won't get another interview. And if you do you won't get the job. I had an interview right after my class and got my period, bled thru my clothes and when I asked to reschedule the interview they said they would call me back. Guess who never called back or ever returned my calls?

Honestly I haven't had that problem. I had a horrible flu once and they rescheduled and got the job. The worst interviews are the ones who already have a hiring prospect, but still take the interview with you anyway so they don't look bad for cancelling and only spend 15 minutes talking to you that to me is the worst case scenario.

Kate I heard that some companies have to interview a certain number of candidates before they can really hire someone, just so that HR knows that all possible candidates have been covered. So even though the hiring function may have already nailed down a specific hiring prospect, they have to go through the other candidates anyway.

Interviewer: "What are you weaknesses?" Me: "Well... I'm lazy, antisocial, hate people in general, never on time, sleep in way too late, fake calling off sick all the time, use my phone while I work, rude to customers, and I genuinely hate this company and am only here for money... But, i'm working on all that."

It's interesting to see the part about weaknesses. Here in Germany, I was taught not NOT talk about your weaknesses in a way that makes you look bad. Instead, it was supposed to be a positive trait turned into something negative. For example "sometimes I get too absorbed in my work and don't notice my surroundings" or "I get called a workaholic a lot because I'm too serious about work" We were taught to never talk about stuff such as being late often, whether we plan on working on it or not!

I did my homework, put all of my info on one sheet of paper, got a phone call the next day for an over the phone interview the following week. Got the job after talking with 2 hiring managers a little over 2 hours later. Meanwhile all I hear from random individuals is how they never get a call back after their interviews. I was unemployed for 11 months before I found my current job, so don't give up.

I send a resume that is 1 page and I get asked "you said you have more than 8 years experience, but on your resume it sais you had 3 jobs?" yes, I only mention my last 3 positions! to fit it on 1 page why do you need to know of all of my 10 years of job experience? it will take 3 -4 pages! so I send a full experience resume that is 4 pages long, did it ansewer all your questions? no they still call and keep asking if I can send referals from a company I worked at 10 years ago, and it does not exist anymore

Keeping a resume at one page is almost impossible if you have a lot of jobs. Like working while in school. Unless you stayed at the same job for YEARS before moving to another job, you most likely will have a lengthy resume.

You don't need to list every job. Just the ones most relevant to the position you're applying to. Having too many jobs on a resume looks like you don't have a stable work history and makes you look questionable.

You are leading people astray. Just because these random people you intervuewed dont want you to dress up dorsnt mean most employers feel that wat... I worked in hr/recruiting and even if we had a casual or business casual atmosphere, there was no chance in hell that you would get hired if you came in business casual or casual. You had better dress up. Better safe than sorry. Just dress nicely, no club gear, as if you were going to ask your new inlaws for permission to marry their child. Nothing flashy but gives a good impression.

S R if your degree is not STEM or law that’s probably part of the reason. Nothing else is constantly in demand. Please it’s summer time kids can up the remedial grunt positions until August/September. Find a low/mid level position work your way up in that company. Don’t leave unless you find something that will pay more and hopefully that’s closer to your degree.

Romeo Barnes Thank you for your advice, Sir! That's actually a dilemma I'm facing right now. Should I get any job that's available (even though it's not related to my degree/don't have room for career growth) or wait for for the companies I sent my resume to to call me? Someone told me to not settle for less but I kind of feel pressured to find a job already 😂 I just want to go back to school lol
@nuigurumisama
@nuigurumisama 6 жыл бұрын
Romeo Barnes I was told that there is a global demand for STEM majors, but maybe that doesn't apply to the US? It's been 3 months since I graduated. I have a masters degree in engineering, and I applied to over 60 positions, almost 50 different companies, with only two interviews (one of them coming up in a few days). After applying to so many companies, I don't even know what I'm looking for anymore. I went to graduate school so I can get a job that I actually want to do, but it seems like a bachelor's with work experience is far better than a masters with no experience. Of course I have nobody to blame but myself, but I feel at this point there isn't much else I can do about it.
@RomeoBarnes
@RomeoBarnes 6 жыл бұрын
nuigurumisama a lot of STEM depends on the kind of STEM(this is particularly true in the field of engineering) AND where you are looking. STEM jobs are out there, you may have to move to a bigger city or closer to a tech savvy city. I’ve had to turn many jobs simply because I cannot make the commute and moving isn’t possible right now. Lucky my That may be what you have to do. Save up some money and move. Artists do it all the time.
@nuigurumisama

The state I live in literally has no tech jobs, so all of my applications are for companies out-of-state like CA. I am definitely willing to move, but only if I get the job. If I am guaranteed a job, then I can probably take out loans or do whatever else is necessary to live wherever the company is at, and some companies even offer relocation assistance. I lived in Japan until I graduated though, so I figured coming back to the states (where my parents live) would improve my chances of finding US jobs than being overseas. But unfortunately I haven't see much difference in results. I even applied to internships and startup companies that have no products yet, but I would still get rejections or no response.

I was once told a good question to ask is something along the lines of do you have any concerns about my qualifications? It helps to show that you're confident in your abilities, and if they do have any concerns, you can address them. In my experience, the interviewer is usually a little caught off guard, but also really impressed by the question

I once showed up to a job fair where mostly all the people that were there were dressed casual. The prospective candidates and the employers. Myself and several others were the only ones dressed business formal. I thought I was overdressed. Long story short I swept the recruiter off their feet and accepted the job offer before negotiating a higher pay . I don't know what these recruiters in this vid are talking about. Anything that deals with any kind of hiring or networking i'm not dressing up in jeans. I'm wearing a damn suit!

The pay part is such a lie. Everyone is not guaranteed the same pay. If a company lists their salary and it's a state ran/owned business then chances are salaries will start out the same but in private businesses and companies ALWAYS know your worth and negotiate a higher rate then what is initially offered. The least they can say is no and then it is up to you to decide if you think that they are paying you what it is that you are worth. Also, some state level and publicly traded companies are required to list all employees salaries so if possible look that up before your interview to get an idea of what they might be able to do as far as pay negotiation goes.

It all comes down to personal preferences if your personality fits in with the company and have the basic skill sets required you're good. These tips and advices are generic and it can be hard to stand out. Now you think about the one that do stand out will be kept in the back of the recruiters mind all day. So you do something drastic to make them remebef who you are. (But I have no job so don't listen to me)

I have never not been offered a a job after an interview and I got to say I disagree with A LOT of what they said. I feel like they are just power tripping in this video and not being honest.

It's unfortunate that these recruiters seem to embrace superficial criteria. Job seekers can't win when one employer judges them for dressing too formally, and the next employer they interview with thinks they're too casual. It's egocentric to expect job seekers to research something as frivolous of the dress code at each employer they interview at. Can't we just agree to focus on the substance of the interview and discuss work attire after a job offer is extended?
