Honestly the fact that African rebel nations don't automatically join you seems like a major oversight from PDX. It makes little sense that they would choose Japan instead.

It's the same if you go Fascist UK. The dominions will automatically declare independence from you, but you can create loyalist uprisings in the former dominions. Thing is, the loyalist uprisings are also independent, and so can choose whatever faction they want to join (including ones you are at war with) and it's super stupid.

Italy modernized their army earlier than the rest so for a time was the more modern army with late 20s early 30s technology. But then the other countries modernized while Italy was recovering from the financial strain of that modernization. And the technical difference between the early 30 and late 30 is as big as early war and late war. For example Italy had the second jet plane of the world.

You could just print command power, force attack, switch general, force attack... this goes up to 1000% stats from stacking force attacks which will end the war in a few weeks. Probably need a macro for printing the cp though

I played Ethiopia without historical focuses on, and every time the war went poorly for Italy, they just ended up joining the allies in 38. It was just constant war until about 44 when they capped me and my african allies. I only survived so long because the AI was horrible with managing supply, but I couldn't push much because I was also horrible at managing supply. Even after I capitulated, I was still at war with the Allies after and my puppets (Which the allies let me keep?) were at war with the central powers somehow. It was a chaotic game from the start in all honesty. My recommendation, if you can manage it, is to just savescum a game where you managed to stabalize your fronts with italy, so you don't have to deal with the RNG in the early game. And, you can exploit the game so you can take all units but one out of an army group, then hit Last Stand for cheap, then put all the units back into the army group, then they will all have the buff while only paying for the cost of one, though if you have infinite command power anyway, this doesn't matter too much.

I myself ran with the Emperor Stays path. It was my first playthrough as Ethiopia, and im still quite noob at Hearts of Iron 4 so perhaps it was not my smartest choice to try them second, and I probably made a ton of mistakes. ( Dutch was my first, failed horribly). I mostly just defended with fallback lines in the mountains and hills, using generals that specialise in those areas ( forgot their names). It cost me the desert though, but, I managed to defend it quite well without having to cycle. But I didnt manage to hold the south long enough so I missed one war level, making it drag out longer. But good grief, the Train path seems just.. so much easier.

I've been playing a bit recently. You can Balkanize Ethiopia more if you have more states (specifically from the original Horn of Africa, not any additional cores) under your ownership. They may have to be cores, but I haven't tested. There's really no reason to not accept Italy's white peace because you can just get Italian East Africa back using the anti-colonial decisions. Even if they turn into states that are at war, as long as they are owned by an East African nation, you can use the development decisions on them and bring them into your own country, which isn't at war.

Honestly the dlc is great the only thing that made me kinda feel weird was the fact all those countries that rebelled joined the Japanese faction. I would get the Comintern or even the axis but why would the Congo join Japan? Edit: Also I just want to add I think paradox needs to decide whether or not they think communist and anarchist are allies. Both are anti capitalist ideologies but it doesn’t make sense that anarcho communist Ethiopia can join the Comintern but not anarchist Spain. Like which is it?

Aethiopia is OP, the attack and defence bonuses they get through focuses are crazy. For me it's 40% attack and 85% defence, I was playing anarcho-communist but took the communist branch of army focuses. The war with Italy is actually pretty easy, just hold out until italians desert at I think lvl 7 of war escalation, than just steamroll to the shore in a couple of days before they resupply. Got it on first try. The fact you can get cores on most of africa is alsmo OP, though it takes TREMENDOUS amounts of PP, around 700 per country including annexation I think. And it can be done on belgium when their capital is in africa XD
