No one has done a proper video on stiffening yet, so I would love to see one 🙋♂️. It’s a very important step for all budding milliners.

Another way to make it easier is to create a form on top of a bowl. You can cut strips of fabric and dip it into plaster of Paris than put it on top of the bowl. Let that dry. Than keep filling the inside in parts.

Are you sticking you pins into the plaster or are you sticking your pins into the rubber door seal? Thanks for the video, I'm going to hand craft a large kentucky derby brim using some of the techniques you used.
@ByIlonaMillinery2 жыл бұрын
Hello Dewey, I am sticking the pins into the rubber door seal, as there is no way they would be able to go into the plaster without cracking it! If you are wanting to construct brims, I suggest you take a look at this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXu0o3-QjtqepaM It's possibly not quite the shape you are looking for, but you can modify this technique to make pretty much any brim shape. And I also have this video on how to make a brim block using expandable foam: kzbin.info/www/bejne/faPIiWdsrLKJa9k

Could you use something like modroc to create a hat block instead of fussing with mixing the plaster?
@ByIlonaMillinery2 жыл бұрын
Hello, yes you could, however you might end up with a lumpy and bumpy surface on the outside of the block as the modroc dries. You'd also have to factor in that if you want to apply a layer of modroc on the outside of the wire structure, it will increase the size of your block. I had a discussion about this on one of my livestreams: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bp7EfodmqLegrLc
