InsightLA is a meditation center teaching the highest quality evidence-based mindfulness practices throughout the Greater Los Angeles area. For 17 years, we have offered classes, retreats, and special events in an open and welcoming community. We strive to make mindfulness practices accessible to all communities with the intention to be inclusive across, race, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status, gender identity, religion, body size, ability, age, and class.
Our work is rooted in ancient traditions supported by evidence-based science, and we offer both Buddhist and secular classes. All of our efforts are dedicated toward our mission of calming minds, opening hearts, and changing the world.
We hold a firm policy that no one will be turned away for lack of funds. About 80% of our expenses are covered by revenue from classes, retreats, and special events. The remainder of our operating expenses are covered by the tax-deductible gifts from generous donors.

Before I worked on my past I used to believe my father abandoned me when my parents separated. I was 13 at the time and my father returned to his country of birth. He never contacted my brother and me, and never supported my mom financially. I developed victim consciousness as a result of my beliefs, i.e. I abandoned me (and him). Now I understand how his leaving us led to enough suffering for me to find the truth of the infinite love inside, through all the many modalities I used to get there. Without suffering to jettison us into a journey of self discovery, we would be like happy puppets - never realising our divine origin. He didn't abandoned us - he freed us.

Awesome, I’ve tried reaching out to my father since I’ve done the work. He will not talk to me. I asked why and his answer was, “ you know .” I hope future generations will learn from the suffering. I would love to just hug him and say it’s okay. I do know. Thank you

21:28 "...my father didn't abandon me..." possible reason: for whatever reason he never felt responsible in the first place... or he just escaped from a - to him - unbearable situation, meaning he saved himself as his major motive, as opposed to abandoning his biological child as his major motive...

1:25:40 she gets stuck in the turnarounds bc she's still in her head instead of meditating in the question, going into the situation and waiting for the truth that comes up... turnarounds are to balance out your perception, not to replace a mind construct with another...

A few minutes in - this is total BS. I feel so sorry for the first woman whose story of abandonment is going unacknowledged and unvalidated. Merely telling students to no longer believe the thoughts that stem from trauma and abuse doesn’t address the reason they are experiencing those thoughts.

I had the same feeling for a long time, but something in me shiftet - i remembered that people aren't forced to do the work, it's a free choice. The work is there for us, when we are ready. Some days im ready, other days not. It is different for everyone what works :-)

It is still valid- even from a psychotherapeutic pov. At some point the girl states that, psychologically speaking, having been abandoned will affect her future relationships with men. In truth, that probably will be the case, for even if we fully accept and embrace our given situation, still the experience of loss may need time to be fully realised before trust can be found again. But who says that we need to relate in a particular way to others? Yes, we need to feel and mourn our losses, at the same time, any concept or judgement as to how either we, or how life is meant to be, will seperate us inside and be the only real cause of the suffering we experience.

But it doesn’t help to reinforce the story over and over. At some point you just become more miserable. As Buddha says there is suffering and there is a way out of suffering. She maybe needs counseling to tell her story and somebody is listening and guiding her. But Katie doesn’t let her down she is with her the entire time.
