In July 1835, several members of the Church donated money to acquire four Egyptian mummies and a collection of papyrus scrolls from a traveling exhibition. Through revelation, the Prophet Joseph Smith identified that one scroll contained “the writings of Abraham.” But what do we know about the history and context of the papyri? How was it translated? Why was it important for God to reveal the history of Abraham? In this episode, Professor Kerry Muhlestein, an Egyptologist and Abrahamic scholar, discusses his recent book Let’s Talk about the Book of Abraham. He highlights stories of the Book of Abraham, examines the common criticism of authenticity and translation of the papyri, and offers ways to examine the divine text on our own.
Each year, Brigham Young University Religious Education professors produce hundreds of publications on subjects related to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This podcast brings this research into one place to enlighten the everyday seeker of truth. Interviewing the author, we discuss why the study was done, why it matters, and why the professor chooses to be both a scholar and a disciple. This is Y Religion: Research to Enlighten Your Mind.
Y Religion podcast episodes are available every two weeks and can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Stitcher, Pandora, and on the web at rsc.byu.edu/me...

Good discussion. We all need to continue to learn. However, to avoid being led astray we need to keep in mind the greater good and the motives from the voices we listen to.

44:42 that is what I do. Interest in scripture study isn’t the issue with me, where I struggle is staying on subject and tracking my scripture chains. Fortunately the online scripture app has assisted in tracking notes and now rather than pursuing interesting insights over topics I had not searched, I feel I should pray to know what I must focus on and really stick with it. Thanks, always good to hear from you two! Also important to keep in mind the application of what we learn, what does it look like personally, how does it bring you closer to Christ, how can you use that to benefit another? I often feel like I am ever learning but sometimes missing the understanding because I forget or neglect to apply the principles specifically.
