I understand that saturated fats, such as C-15, provide stability to cell membranes, while omega-3 fatty acids contribute to their flexibility. Therefore, the real question is: what is the optimal balance between stability and flexibility for healthy cell function?
@phaedrusalt
@phaedrusalt 3 ай бұрын
@Physionic You might point out that poorly- run studies do not necessarily say anything about the product. Human studies are expensive and take time, so by default all they're likely to have now are animal- and studies- by- analysis. Not the best, but that's what the cutting edge is.

If you want to get some C15 via a less expensive route, consume whole fat dairy from pasture raised cows. Kerry Gold butter presumably has a good amount of C15 in it, and the same would be true of organic whole milk. Just make sure it says "pasture raised".

I fell for the C15 hype. Bought a 90 day supply and took them consistently. I didn’t notice any of the supposed benefits so haven’t bought any more. One factor has occurred to me. I consume quite a lot of full fat dairy in the form of kefir and cheese. So it’s possible I was already replete in this nutrient, so taking extra was not going to have any benefit or effect.

Epic timing man! I just had my omega-3 test done and I'm just waiting for the results. I took two tests from two different labs to see if they differ. I shared this on social media and the fatty 15 reared its head in the comment section. People were saying it's better than omega-3. I eat Greek and Turkish yoghurt, and use butter. 30 g (about 1 oz) of butter has what the creators of the Fatty15 supplement consider an optimal dose of C15:0. So, I have no skin in the game! If C15:0 is good for us, I already get it. But I don't understand why they want to slander omega-3! Can't they both be good for us? I'm not surprised that dairy fats good for us. Nature of course created it to have a good balance of fatty acids.

Cell death occurs through apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy. A fourth way has been discovered in 2012 called ferroptosis Fragile fatty acids in the cell membrane that results in lipid peroxidation. Lipid peroxidation is when your fragile fats go bad. They get exposed to and attacked by oxygen. (Lipid Peroxidation)and for some strange reason iron is showing up in these cells and when you combine iron with lipid peroxidation it results in massive build up of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) the ROS then go kill out mitochondria When scientists looked under a microscope they were seeing intact cells with kind of strange looking cell membranes and all the mitochondria were killed. Scientists just found out that C15 deficiency was at the beginning middle and end of ferroptosis and found that supplementing with it stopped all components ferroptosis

@@Physionic mdpi com 2218-1989/14/7/355 The study describes what appears to be the cause of all current chronic diseases And the cause is a nutritional deficiency A new type of nutritional deficiency has not been documented for decades and they have now discovered this deficiency that appears to be the cause of all modern chronic diseases. In this study they also discovered a new type of cell death. It has long been taught that there are 3 types of cell death: apoptosis, necrosis and autophagy. They have now discovered a fourth type that is caused by this nutritional deficiency. Guess which nutrient deficiency leads to this deficiency...... It is a deficiency of saturated fat. This study talks about C15. The author of this study has a C15 supplement company and that is why she promotes C15 so much. But all saturated fat is linear in shape and strengthens the cell membrane, not just C15. And all polyunsaturated fat oxidizes easily and weakens the cell membrane. But it seems that odd-chain saturated fats are better than even-chain ones. And she is also one of those people who thinks that saturated fat is bad. So she thinks that C15 and C17 are good for you and the other types of saturated fat are bad for you. You don't need to take C15 specifically. Other types of saturated fat would have the same effect. And you should not only consume saturated fat but especially drastically reduce polyunsaturated fats. The goal is to increase the amount of saturated fat and decrease the amount of polyunsaturated fat in the cell membrane. And I can list more than 20 clinical trials showing that polyunsaturated fats are linked to virtually all chronic diseases.

Saying that C15 is better than omega-3 fatty acids "because it has a larger number of beneficial effects" is nonsensical because if the effects are different. It's entirely like saying that niacin is better than retinol because biomedical researchers have found 200 benefits of niacin and "only" 100 of retinol. The numerical difference doesn't matter if the two essential nutrients have entirely different roles in human metabolism and the benefits are entirely different.

I have taken Fatty15 for 10 the days at 1 per day. For the last 3 days I am noting an increase in brain fog and my fingers are starting to get painful. I will not take anymore for a week before sending the remaining packs back for a refund if the painful fingers go back to normal. Many people are not strict carnivore such as I have been for 27 months so might not know a I will within a day or so if some meat or dairy causes a problem for me. Pain anywhere in my body is a very powerful signal that I have ingested something that is reacting because beef and water and salt are not reactive for me. I tolerate pastured pork and pastured eggs are good unless I eat more than 2 times within a week. Lamb or beef ,butter,salt has never given me a problem so when this reared up I know the only thing that I have eaten different is this Fatty15. I will know within a couple days if this is the reason for my arthritis because I will eat only beef and salt. The index finger on my left hand is so painful that I can't even touch it and both hands are now stiff. I guess the message from nature is that saturated fats no matter the carbon bonds are not meant to be separated with one or two taken as a stand alone supplement. Whole animals,fish and seafoods are the PHD.The only other thing I take is iodine,selenium and trace minerals and Himalayan or Redmond's salt in my water.

If the studies are not well done it doesn't necessarily mean it's worthless, just that the studies are bad. More studies by the same people are not likely to be better. But maybe they're seeing something that they are not able to show on paper. It seems worth looking into at least. Maybe someone else will provide better studies.

In short, this study doesn't tell us much about the benefits of C15 in general. It is void of sound evidence to support its claims. Well, this sounds to me like a bunch of pseudo-scientific studies out there.

Maybe this will go some small way towards adding a little discipline and order into the wild world of supplements and the claims made for them. Well, probably not.

A saturated fat has different effects on the body than Omega-3. Their comparison isn't nearly as relevant as the authors imagine. The best example is membrane fluidity but also metabolites that reduce inflammation. It is a stupid study. C15:0 might be beneficial but but to compare it to Omega-3 is ignorance.

The authors of that study even claimed elsewhere that C15:0 scores better across different biomarkers, particularly those related to AMPK activation and mTOR inhibition, than well-established drugs, namely acarbose, metformin and rapamycin. It seems nowdays that the only effective way for some zero-sum biased underdogs with a crab mentality to gain popularity in this attention economy is by minimizing their top dogs' qualities, while lacking virtually any quality themselves.
