Innsbrucker Mittelgebirgsbahn - also known colloquially as Mittelgebirgsbahn, Igler, Sechser or Waldstraßenbahn - is the name given to today's Line 6 of the Innsbruck tramway. The 8, 362-kilometre-long metre-gauge interurban tramway was originally licensed as a light railway. It provides access to the Paschberg, located south-east of Innsbruck on the low mountain range that gave the railway its name. The line was opened in 1900 and since then has connected the Innsbruck district of Wilten with the villages of Aldrans, Lans, Sistrans and Igls. Formerly an important means of local transport, today it is an excursion railway to the popular urban recreation area. In earlier years, the lines to and from Igls were connected to the city centre several times, but today all journeys end at the peripheral Bergisel station, where there is a connection to Line 1.

Once again you remind me of some of the wonderful moments in my life. I even walked once along a part of the line from Igls to Aldrans, the weather then was the same as in the video... I guess the loop in Igls is no longer used in regular service, now that the double-ended trams are available. Thank you for another excellent film!

Die Innsbrucker Mittelgebirgsbahn (Linie 6) ist eine wirklich faszinierende Lokal- und Kleinbahn im Süden von Innsbruck (Schmalspur 1000 mm). Bereits mehrmals von der Einstellung bedroht, ist ihr Bestand nunmehr (hoffentlich) gesichert. Die (echte) Mitfahrt kann jedem Eisenbahnfreund, der Tirol besucht, nur empfohlen werden (man kann mit der Straßenbahnlinie 1 direkt zum Bergisel fahren). In Igls im Innsbrucker Mittelgebirge gibt es schöne Wanderwege und Gasthäuser, und nahe des Bahnhofs liegt die Talstation der Seilbahn auf den Patscherkofel, den Hausberg Innsbrucks; damit auf den Berg zu fahren und einen herrlichen Panoramablick auf das Ober- und Unterinntal und das ganze Mittelgebirge genießen zu können, rentiert sich. - The Innsbruck Mittelgebirgsbahn (line 6) is a really fascinating local and small railway in the south of Innsbruck (narrow gauge 1000 mm). Already threatened with closure several times, its existence is now (hopefully) secured. The (real) ride can only be recommended to every railway enthusiast visiting Tyrol (you can take tram line 1 directly to Bergisel). In Igls in the Innsbruck low mountain range there are beautiful hiking trails and inns, and near the train station is the valley station of the cable car to the Patscherkofel, Innsbruck's local mountain; It's worth it to drive up the mountain and enjoy a wonderful panoramic view of the Upper and Lower Inn Valley and the entire low mountain range.

Kein Wunder, dass diese Strecke von der Einstellung bedroht ist. Durch den Wald nimmt sie jede Kurve, die nur möglich ist mit 20 km/h. Aufbau zu mindestens 60 km/h ist wohl notwendig,

@@wolfgangfuchs1243 Es würde fürs erste schon reichen, die Abschnitte zwischen den Kehren und oben am Plateau auf 40-50km/h anzuheben. Das allein wäre schon eine signifikante Fahrzeitverkürzung.

@@stephanweinbergerwäre auch Sinnvoll die wieder (?) im Straßenbahnnetz als Linie 1 (?) durchzubinden. gibt keinen Grund warum die in Bergisel beginnen muss. Das erzeugt nur unnötiges Umsteigen. Weiters wäre neben der Streckenoptimierung für höhere Geschwindigkeiten vielleicht auch eine verlängerung nach Patsch sinnvoll? Ideallerweise gleich bis Matei, aber das ist eigentlich eh angebunden

@@lordeisschrank Ja, diesen unnötigen Umsteigezwang hab ich auch nie verstanden. Patsch wäre ev. interessant (wenn man's halbwegs sinnvoll durch Igls durch schafft, was stellenweise etwas eng werden könnte) aber bis Matrei wird die Bevölkerungsdichte dann schon etwas sehr niedrig. Und solang die Fahrzeit nicht zumindest ansatzweise mit dem Bus vergleichbar ist wäre das für die Bevölkerung auch eher ein downgrade.
