In this video you can enjoy the cab ride - train driver's view from Klagenfurt to Leoben, a first part of the journey from Klagenfurt to Vienna on a ÖBB flagship Railjet service in 4K/60 frames per second.
Journey will take us from Klagenfurt Hbf north on Rosentalbahn railway line towards the St. Veit an der Glan railway junction where we join on the historic Rudolfsbahn (built between 1868 and 1873 to connect Linz with Villach and Italy via Tarvisio), following the valleys of rivers Metnitz and Olsa up to the highest point of the line at Mariahof - Sankt Lambrecht (892m ASL) and then descending into Mur river valley all the way to St Michael junction where we leave the old route of Rudolfsbahn towards Leoben. Apart from the 5,5km Galgenberg tunnel shortcut between Sankt Michael and Leoben completed in 1998, route is mostly unchanged from its original layout built in the late 19th century.
In ÖBB modern designations, this is a mainline 413.01 that spans all the way from Villach to Bruck an der Mur and today provides a shortest and fastest route from Klagenfurt to Vienna, with OeBB Railjet trains covering the full distance in little over four hours. With the future completion of high-speed Koralmbahn railway between Klagenfurt and Graz and completion of Semmering base tunnel, we might see the fastest Railjet services being moved to this new route via Graz with almost an hour shorter journey.

Thank you. I traveled this route sometime in 2005 by train Carlo Goldoni Vienna-Venecia. I stayed in Graz that time and had to took the train at Bruck an der Mur station. I was impressed by such a beautiful landscapes during the whole trip!!! Thank you for reminding.

Thank you for this video and for all infos mentionned. Nice and interesting cab ride in a beautiful sunny autumn day.with some beautiful landscapes seen. There is a second part. I hope to see this train on the same right track. But, seven years ago in a Austrian cab ride, Leoben /Graz was in left track.

Austrian and German railways are electrified with 15kV 16.7Hz electricity. Because of the strange frequency, their transformer stations are actually generator stations, which consist of electric motor running the electric generator giving the required voltage and frequency.

Apart from these electromechanical frequency converters, there are also some hydroelectric plants that originally work on this reduced frequency, built exclusively to feed the railway network. DACH (and subsequently Nordic countries) went with this reduced frequency as they were pioneers in AC railway traction and electrification - major issue early on were losses and heating due to eddy currents, which grow at the square of frequency (so 1/3 of frequency means 1/9 of eddy current losses). Later AC railway systems were built on 50Hz as the issue of eddy currents in transformers was solved with better materials and transformer technology and manufacturing (though even today 15kV/16.7Hz trafo is heavier than 25kV/50Hz).

The only FS line electrified with three-phase alternating current at 50 Hz (originally 45 Hz) was the fabulous Rome - Sulmona. Since the last 16 ⅔ Hz power station of the FS was that of Arquata Scrivia, for the Italian section of the Sempione line (Southern ramp), in Varzo there is a mobile substation of the Swiss railways powered by a three-phase three-phase circuit from Switzerland ( Le Châtelard VS power station, powered by the penstock coming from the legendary Émosson barrage?!?).

The Rudolphsbahn! Way back in 2008 I took the EN Euronight Bologna-Wien and traveled this beautiful line! Much faster and more direct, at least in the Klagenfurt-Leoben section of the Southern Line or Sudbahn which passes through Graz. The area of ​​Carinthia near Klagenfurt and the castles between Carinthia and Styria are beautiful. In the Mura valley you can see a fair number of urban and industrial areas, such as Leoben, Judenburg and Knittelfeld. Above all, the excellent Gosser beer is produced in Leoben. With the Westbahn and the Sudbahn, this is one of OBB's three flagship lines. Not far from here is the mining village of Eisenerz. How many Railjets run on these lines! Very good!

Notizia storica: alla costruzione della Transalpina proveniente a Rosenbach dalla linea dei Tauri / Tauernbahn venne aggiunto il ramo St.Veit an der Glan-Klagenfurt-Rosenfach che unito alla sezione finale della Transalpina formò la "Karawanken-Wocheinerbahn" di 205 km. per Jesenice, Gorizia, Opicina e Trieste Campo Marzio. Il km. 0 (zero) era è lo è ancora, Glandorf, e il nuovo collegamento Sv.Veit an der Glan-Glandorf , che fa parte oggi della Klagenfurt-Vienna si chiama ancora oggi "Triesterschlaife" / "Raccordo Trieste".

Zwischen Mühldorf und Tüßling ist die Strecke zweigleisig, im restlichen Abschnitt verläuft sie eingleisig. Die von der DB Regio Netz Infrastruktur GmbH, einem Tochterunternehmen der DB Netz AG, betriebene Strecke verläuft von Mühldorf am Inn nach Freilassing. Sie ist Bestandteil der Magistrale für Europa (TEN-Projekt 17) und wird im Rahmen des Projekts ABS 38 ausgebaut.

@@francescor9640 Look for a square white sign on the right side of the line. It will have a red number in a red square. They seem to be local and change for sharp curves and the like. In the first 39 minutes of the video I have seen several.

Is it maybe, it looks like "All roads lead to Leoben, but none out of it"? There is some strange industry in the middle of the way there, so you must make some very strange, huge, and not intuitive U bypass around it. Some strange crossings and joints follow. Nothing seems to be as it looks like. Ðimi Stanić, "Prsluk pucam" style. Daylight doesn't help much either, witchcraft only. Once you break out in the direction of St. Michael in der Obersteiermark, you stop the car, drop to your knees, and kiss the road (Bundesstraße 116).

Yeah, now you can compare your previous video quality and this one- it's like night and day :) This one is way much better in terms of quality, while previous video had exceptional views, but very bad quality...
