Cabbage with Apples and Bacon // Perfect Side Dish ❤️

If you want to try a different side dish for the holidays or any day then this dish is for you, because it takes a few ingredients, it’s colorful and and absolutely delicious. I like to try different side dishes to accompany my ham or turkey during the holiday just to add a twist to our menu. I love both sweet and savory dishes, especially when they’re easy, and this one has it all. You can side it with turkey, ham, chicken or beef and you won’t go wrong. I hope you give it a try. ❤️
INGREDIENTS----------
1/2 lrg Cabbage (8 C. 1 inch cubes)
4 slices thick cut bacon (1/2-1 inch cubes)
1/4 C. Chopped green onions
1 1/4 C. Water
2 med Red apples ( sweet and tart 1/2 -1 inch cubes)
4 Tbsp Salted butter
Salt 3/4 tsp or as needed
Pepper as needed
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
Finely chopped fresh parsley 🌿
● Drain cabbage well after cooking before adding butter (forgot to mention )

I would never have thought about adding apples to my cabbage, it looks delicious and of course bacon is always fantastic. I can’t wait to make this for my family. Oh my gosh I could sit and eat that entire bowl of cabbage! I just love cooked cabbage especially with bacon but with the addition of Pink Lady apples, has to send this dish to a whole other delicious dimension my dear friend. That looks really tasty! I think I'll add some crushed garlic and diced red onion to the bacon🥓. And because my husband isn't keen on raw apples🙄 perhaps if I cook them a little longer with the cabbage, they'll be more like stewed apple which he doesn't mind eating. I had a head of cabbage and was completely unmotivated to cook it, ( the same old cabbage ,onions,cilantro blah blah blah) .I really dred wasting food,but since the outer leaves were starting to darken, I decided to cut some for the chickens the next morning .... but wait, Lo and behold, later the same day Rachel Cw/L posts this recipe!! My cabbage is saved!! Excited by having everything excep sweet apple . I fry bacon, lots of white onion, cabbage then add Honey Crisp apples. I fry everything, like my mother did. I’ve never boiled it. My Grandmother used Red Delicious apples and my Mother did too. They like the bright red in the dish and the sweet apple.
