Flinker Leichter Innovativer Regionaltriebzug: Dordrecht - Breda - 's-Hertogenbosch FLIRT 3/1/2023

Did you know what FLIRT stands for? Today I'm driving this Stadler FLIRT as a slow train from Dordrecht to 's-Hertogenbosch. The well-known Cabview Holland Spotter VIP Sanderbin happens to be at Lage Zwaluwe station. Great, because now he can film the departure :-)
We also cross the more than one kilometer long Moerdijk Bridge and stop at Tilburg station with its special roof.

Wist jij eigenlijk wel wat FLIRT betekent? Ik rijd vandaag deze Stadler FLIRT als stoptrein van Dordrecht naar 's-Hertogenbosch. De bekende Cabview Holland Spotter VIP Sanderbin staat toevallig op station Lage Zwaluwe. Mooi, want dan kan hij het vertrek filmen :-)
Verder gaan we over de meer dan een kilometer lange Moerdijkbrug en stoppen we op station Tilburg met de bijzondere overkapping.

FLIRT 3 trains have also been in use on 'my' Filstalbahn (the main line from Stuttgart to Ulm) for three years in regional transport on line MEX16, operated by the private railway company Go-Ahead Baden-Württemberg. Depending on the time of day or day of the week, trains of different lengths are used, from a single three-car train up to two five-car trains in double traction. I use it to commute five days a week to the office in Stuttgart in the morning and back home in the evening. Incidentally, the famous steep route 'Geislinger Steige', Europe's oldest mountain railway, is also on the Filtalbahn.

Ah, een FLIRT. Onze Meester heeft een nieuwe trein geleerd! Ik heb er zelf nog nooit mee meegereden, maar ik vind ze door hun langere bakken volwassener ogen dan de SLT en SNG, en doen me denken aan de SGM. Geen idee hoe het als machinist is, maar gezien dat het een Zwitsers product is en de belachelijke hoeveelheid die er van verkocht zijn en over de hele wereld rijden, denk ik dat het met de bouwkwaliteit wel goed zit.

I noticed that there are a mixture of gantries for the overhead lines. Some have a straight cross girder and some a curved girder - often seeming to be mixed randomly on the same section of track. Does anyone know what the reason is for this? Or, perhaps, were the installers just using up some old stocks of equipment?

Might have something to do with which company won the contract? We have lots of concrete gantries, these were installed during the shortage of steel during the war.

Exactly what Mr. Cabview said, but to add to that. The concrete ones are mostly found in the province Brabant. But they are slowly reducing in numbers, due to them being replaced when something changes in the track layout or during big maintainance.

At @28:01 to @28:10 there is a feature in the middle of the track. I'm curious if anyone would be willing and able to tell me what it is.

This prevents a derailed train to fall of the bridge or cause more damage.

@@CabviewHolland I saw those. The ones I recognized have rails set inside the other rails, but much closer to the running rails. This was a narrow strip, maybe a few centimeters wide in total, and it was on an embankment, not a bridge.

Why in Breda does the sprinter cross all the way right to left just to have to cross back left to right on the other side? Why not just use a southern platform? Not like Breda lacks for platforms...

Stadler actually changed the name to "Fast Light Intercity and Regional Train / Flinker Leichter Intercity- und Regional-Triebzug" a couple of years ago, apparently it's not innovative anymore 😂
