What if David Glen Lewis was threatened into doing these bizarre things and told to be on that highway or his family would suffer a bad fate? What if the person who committed the hit and run was in on it? All this I would imagine would've been asked of David to throw off the investigation, with no leads you have no case. One thing I'll add, needing prescription glasses doesn't mean you can't see at all, it just means you can't see clearly. The people who were in contact with him might have requested he remove his glasses and told to wait for a car to pick him up, only they had no intention on picking him up.

Here in Houston it is, recently a man went missing and the police wouldn't do anything until 24 hours, so, the close friends of the missing person hired some company that specializes in finding missing people, and on top of that groups of locals went out to find him. They did, sadly he was deceased. I believe it was some dispute that went south

Your claim is that no one ever had to wait 24 hours to report a missing person simply because the Internet wasn't as widespread as it is now? Seriously?? Stick to the facts, instead of your half backed theories. Was a 24 hour wait required in that County in Texas in 1993 or not? If you don't know the answer, then quit dreaming up theories to try and disprove what was said. In reality, as I already stated, a 24 hour wait was required in the past. So this is a connection that I'm a bit surprised no one has brought up, but here we go. The patriot/militia movement was a growing thing in the US in 1993. Texas and the Pacific Northwest were two centers of militia activity at the time. These are the guys the FBI went after in the wake of the Oklahoma City incident, but OKC was in '95, so '93 was still prime militia time. When I hear "suddenly moved from Texas to rural PNW, turned up in fatigues and work boots instead of his usual suit, seems to have deliberately shed his identification", my first thought is, "Was there a militia camp in that area?" If Lewis had militia connections (and there's no reason a lawyer and judge couldn't have had them in Texas in '93), they could disappear him pretty effectively if he decided he wanted to vanish. If he then got cold feet about whatever they were doing (a thing that also happened to one of the conspirators in the OKC case), he might have either left on foot or been dropped off in the middle of nowhere to make his own way. Of course, this depends a lot on some accidents of geography and attire. He could have gotten his fatigues from an army/navy store. A psychotic break is still possible. Oh, and as far as the glasses go, I happen to need glasses to see...and I still take them off in situations where they won't help. Usually when I'm walking around my home or when it's dark or raining and I can't see much anyway. On a dark road in the Pacific Northwest on a February night, he might have put his glasses in a pocket for safekeeping.

You know, I think this holds some water and I'm gonna upvote it for that. I was wondering why he would go to the literal middle of nowhere, Washington (Moxee is in central Washington, over the Cascades and well away from the major airport at Seatac) but the militia thing could explain it and why he was wearing fatigues. Like you said he might have had second thoughts about the extremist lifestyle and started to back out, but being that he was in the middle of nowhere in a totally unfamiliar part of the country with no vehicle, he would have no idea where to go and met an unfortunate end purely on accident due to his poor vision making him not realize he was in the middle of the road and got struck. I wonder what his connections were that led him out there in the first place. I think it was intentional the way he set things up to make it look like he was going to come back (the wedding ring, the game recording, etc, all as normal) so he could slip off and see what the militia life was all about without taking the chance of getting outed if he got involved with a more local chapter back home, especially as a former judge who might have made enemies in those circles...

I appreciate the timeline at the beginning, but one thing I think this video is missing is maps!Most non-Americans won’t know where Amarillo is, and almost no one has heard of Moxee WA before. Would’ve also been incredibly helpful to show the location he was found relative to local airports. I’ve never heard that “there were no scheduled flights between the two locations” before in relation to this case, but even if it’s true I’m sure there were scheduled flights to other nearby airports. Apparently Moxee is 2.5 hrs from SEA-TAC, which wouldn’t be too much of a stretch if someone else drive him there and dumped him in the side of the road.

@tablescissors
@tablescissors 2 жыл бұрын
Fair. I wondered if he would later use pics for insurance purposes or some other form of documentation, like when it was picked up by the side of the road. I take it a camera was never found with his belongings and that the wooded area by the road where his body was found was never searched either (for a campsite or some stash area or something). It sounds like he HAD military training and perhaps was so desperate to hide that he was going to do so in the woods (hence the camouflage and thick boots). I also assume that no passenger was seen wearing fatigues. So, he changed into those clothes and abandoned his civilian clothing.... somewhere.

I feel like it might be suicide. Leaving money for his parents kinda makes sense then. He left his watch and wedding ring on the counter and made the two people coming home dinner. Left his car at his job and the rest of anything that could id him. Same with the clothes picked up something generic to help hide his identity. Caught a flight to anywhere but there (paid in cash with a fake name) and walked along the centerline without his glasses trying to get hit. He probably didn't want his family to know which is why he recorded the game.

Turkey sandwiches as your final farewell dinner for your wife of 12 years & beloved daughter? On top of the fact that premade sandwiches that sit in a refrigerator like that aren't the best tasting when they make it out of the fridge. I feel like this alone makes that unlikely, I appreciate the imagination though these kinds of discussions are indeed how cold cases are solved after all so there's no such thing as a bad suggestion, but I'm just not comfortable with the sandwich discrepancy. I mean did you see the photos of that man? One thing I know for certain is that that man practiced a high degree of turkey sandwich etiquette & implementation. Something tells me he only meant to have them in the fridge for a very short stint. I'd be interested to know if they already had mayo & mustard spread on them or not, that would actually provide a great deal if insight that could reveal the truth of everything.

I lived in eastern WA/northern ID for a few years, and the amount of people I encountered walking down the roads in the dead of night was frightening. The worst was when I was zipping down a 2-lane highway, closing in on midnight, when I came up over a rise and had a person walking down the stripes in the middle of the road. I had less than a second before I passed them, and my mirror had to be inches from hitting them. If either of us had been a smidgen closer, I would have splattered them, and my passenger and I would have likely died as we careened out of control. Still gives me shivers when I think about it today.

Maybe he flew into a large city then hitchhiked to where he was found. It was a lonely road? If it is raining, the combination of raindrops, darkness and occasional headlights makes glasses kind of useless. The raindrops on the glass spreads the light and creates all sorts of glares and reflexes. It would be entirely proper for him to put them in his pocket to get rid of that distraction.

@That_One_Fae

Dissociative fugue perhaps? It would explain why he left all identifying objects, the change of clothes, the sudden travel, and even maybe the lack of glasses. For those not in the know, a dissociative fugue is an incredibly rare psychological disorder. It’s marked by sudden and reversible amnesia, along with a shift in geographic location. It is very common to observe a new identity in the individual, and it can be triggered by large amounts of stress. I’ll also note that the person isn’t really aware they’re doing this, think of it more as a very rare and peculiar defense mechanism the brain triggers, rather than an individual purposefully taking these actions. Although it doesn’t really explain some of the erratic behaviors like depositing money or going hurriedly through the airport, as far as I’m aware the nature of dissociative fugues kind of prevents thorough studies, so perhaps these events marked the onset of the fugue?
@kingzoe5534
@kingzoe5534 2 жыл бұрын
No way. As you said, it’s an incredibly rare psychological disorder. You probably heard it from the Hannah Upp case. We could just say that it’s dissociative fugue about pretty much every case and call it a day and it would ‘make sense’.

@@kingzoe5534 I’m actually rather wary as to what Hannah Upp has. Dissociative fugues are typically a one time event, and it appears Hannah has had it multiple times. I actually didn’t learn about it from Hannah Upp either, I was a psychology student for several years, and still have a very avid interest in the field (just didn’t have a clear career goal, so I moved to another science). Rather my first experiences were examples of other people with stressful lives, who one day just vanish. They either one day returned, completely oblivious to the fact they had been gone for any time at all, or found at some other distant place, with no idea they had a previous life. It’s very sad what happened to Hannah Upp however, and if it is a fugue state, to my knowledge (admittedly not professional) it would be rather unique because as stated previously they are primarily one time events.

@@That_One_Fae I'm curious about cases where we KNOW people abandoned their lives, since it's such a common accusation, but I rarely find that to be the difinative answer. I know of only some, and narcissistic personality disorder definitely played a dominant role, in others it is alleged (not always proven) that domestic violence was to blame. But still. It seems a subject worthy of further examination.

You mentioned a few things that didn't fit with the idea of a mental break, but as someone with bipolar I can think of ways they do. First is the glasses, I know for me when I have an episode sometimes I can have sensory issues and my glasses can feel heavy. I have extremely light weight glasses for this reason. I could definitely see those old school heavy glasses feeling terrible and just taking them off. Second, parking the car at work suggesting it wasn't a mental break. As long as it wasn't a full break with reality or amnesia, going about daily routines because they are ingrained makes sense. It feels familiar and there for safe "this is what I always do therefore I should do it." habits are a hard thing to break. Leaving the wedding ring. This one could be for a number of reasons. He didn't want his wife following him so he left the ring to show her that he didn't want to be with her. He was paranoid and he wanted to send a message that he didn't go willing "my wife will know I would never leave my ring behind. I'll leave it as a clue" honestly there are too many reasons to list for that one because when you are not in your right mind your readings for doing anything are the product of your own dysfunctioning mind. Same can be applied to changing his clothing. I'm not saying it was a mental break, just that these so not necessarily rule out a mental break.

I'm thinking he received a threat, fled for his life, went to some town he has no ties to because if someone was looking for him, it would make more sense to go somewhere no one expects you to be. Wearing the army fatigues makes sense if he's trying to obscure his identity. Walking down the center line doesn't make sense, but maybe he knew by doing that, he would likely be hit. And maybe he had already resolved himself to that, if anything, to protect his family from further threats. Also, the 24 hours mandatory before reporting someone missing isn't true.

Whilst there is sense to this it doesn't explain how he was able to travel a route with no commercial, scheduled air route (at least on the days in question). Applying Occam's Razor it seems most likely he was at home until the evening before he was killed - how else would the VCR get activated? A criminal accomplice is a stretch (requiring foreknowledge that he would likely tape the Superbowl, which admittedly many people do, but then others hate sports and he might be one of them, thus discovering a VCR recording the game might actually raise red flags), and if he had a breakdown of some kind it would have been him activating it rather than someone else. Therefore, if he was there on the Sunday it seems probable the most likely method of then travelling to Washington State would have been via a private or charter flight - would a man in a breakdown state have been capable of arranging such a journey?

Growing up my mum would take off her wedding band to do the dishes because she didn't want it to touch dirty dish water. I feel most likely it was someone who was a smarter criminal that found him. They probably approached him at some point to threaten him and his family and David knew to take it seriously. Whether he orchestrated the trip his wife and daughter took to give him time to do all this or if the criminal caught him alone while they were gone is a mystery to me. I imagine the criminal either provided clear instructions or joined him on all the hiding stuff. Placing his ring and cards in the car, leaving the house a certain way etc. Then they took David to Washington I suspect earlier than the Sheriff's supposed sighting. Once in Washington they instructed him to walk down the middle of that road or they would harm his family type of deal. In other words the criminal helped setup a series of random things to make it appear he left on his own accord and caused him to die in a way that would appear random in a random place without any stuff to ID him. This way they could be certain it would never be traced back to them. He did all this because his family was threatened in some form by a person or organization he fully believed would attack his family and from whose clutches he did not feel they could escape unscathed even in witness protection or something like that.

For someone from Texas to choose to hide out in the forests of Washington state is plausible. My immediate thoughts on his taking pics of his SUV were that a film or photo of it including the plate number would give police a direct link to his ID in the event that he was found dead. Since He wasn't wearing his glasses he would need to follow the centerline to orient himself. Perhaps he thought he had forgotten them in the rush or they were too reflective. However if he was in good mental health he would have avoided the Camaro. Could his blood sugar have dropped so low that it caused him to feel drunk? ...a distinct possibility if he HAD been rushed and forgot the sandwiches... as well as to pick-up any photos up a 1-hour developing center.. Why do you claim 24 hrs is the limit for missing persons? Extremely reckless! It is not. Please make sure to file a missing person's report ASAP, people! If there is foul play involved, EVERY SECOND counts!!

I thought that when his wife and kid returned home the VCR was still recording not the game because it was long over and the VCR just kept recording because the wife returned the next day if I'm not mistaken

The VCR would only record until the tape ran out, maybe a couple of hours

I love your videos and your channel. Very well done! On this particular video, the piano was a bit loud and drowned out your voice in places but all in all it was a great video.

Isn't only being able to label someone as missing after 24 hours actually false? Or does it only apply for adults?
@meowgan7042
@meowgan7042 2 жыл бұрын
It's false! The first 48 hours are often the most crucial. The sooner it's reported the better. How fast they'll start searching will depend on a couple of different factors (with time since last seen being one of them) but that shouldn't stop anyone from reporting it.

It's determined by jurisdiction, but requiring 24 hours is not the norm anymore, since it has frequently resulted in otherwise solvable cases getting stalled. The confusion comes law enforcement and dispatchers occasionally suggesting or advising that the report should wait; this should never, ever be done, but it does still happen, and unfortunately when you're in an official position, any suggestion you make comes across as an order. The rule is, however, if someone is supposed to be somewhere and they're not, you can call, and you have to be taken seriously. It doesn't matter if it's child, teen, or adult. Signed, A 911 Dispatcher

When they say it was a case not worth threatening anyone's life over, I think they misjudge how petty people are.
