Why the music?This beautifully done machine does not need music. A fellow road racer years ago got into a tank slapper on his TZ 250 when his foot slipped off the foot peg. His leg swung around and got grabbed by the rear wheel that was wide open like this CX 500 rear wheel is. It pulled his leg in and broke it in 9 places. Doctors were barely able to save his leg. I like the design, I always loved the CX motor, the way they twisted the cylinders 23 1/2° to bring the carburetors closer together out of the way and so they could be operated by a single cable on a bell crank rather than with 2 seperate cables...I loved how they had the exhaust going out wide to miss the radiator and the frame tubes. I like how they spun the clutch in the opposite direction of the crankshaft to eliminate the torque effect that Guzzis have.. The CX 500 was actually designed right from the start to be turbocharged. I actually sold the very first CX 500 turbo to enter the Pittsburgh market to my riding buddy. 4999+ tax out the door. There is also a guy that went around the world two times on a Honda CX 500, with his girlfriend on the back. The story was in motorcyclist magazine both times about 20 years ago. The only problem the guy had of any significance was, one of his shock mounts broke off the frame. I wish Honda would bring back the CX pushrod transverse motor layout and a modern version with fuel injection, but leave it have a pushrod design so it would have smaller heads. Very nice job on this machine, but every time I see that wide open rear wheel, I remember my friends leg
@TahitianRider5 жыл бұрын
Music because the timelapse videos don't have any soundThanks man, you sure seems to know the CX very well, never heard about that guy that went around the world, I probably was just been born lol. Yeah I might do a cafe racer seat version to prevent from slipping off the bobber seat onto the wheel, or something similar. I won't be racing this bike though, its more of a casual ride.

A great build. The frame has however been weakened and by taking away the rear shocks the forces on the stucture carrying the rear wheel have been increased (much higher bending moments for instance). One should wonder if this is still strong enough when push comes to shove.

How does spraying the engine work out in the long run? Does the paint stay on? Does it bubble from the heat?
@joelholmstrom65515 жыл бұрын
depends on the prep and the kind of paint you use, using a high temp resistant paint and primer will prevent the paint from bubbles and also make sure to clean and scrub all surfaces really well. so in the long run it works great if you just use the right paint and primer and make sure the surface well prepped
@AMXM-do5kw4 жыл бұрын

i'm sure they've put primer and clear coat on most parts where applicable. I'm also not sure if you know but all theautomotive industry is using spray painting. Yes, they use robotic spray guns, clean rooms and automated paint mixers, but the core concept is still the same. Also i saw these guys put multiple coatings and prepared parts for painting properly, so i don't know where this "couple weeks" is coming from.

Rattle cans work fine, same paint more or less. It's black paint, it's all in the prep.
@coolhanddruid6 жыл бұрын
@@mikhailman Its not the application process. Everything is sprayed, and has been for a long time. Its the type of paint used in the process. Anything without a hardener is basically poop, will soften and peel from things like gasoline, discolor, chip easy, etc. Richard Scott is wrong also. I'm not downing the guy for using rattle cans. It is what it is. Just not letting the FUD spread.
