Classics IV essentially became Atlanta Rhythm Section, who also recorded this song. Should check it out.

As mentioned earlier, after Classic IV slip up, some of the members formed Atlanta Rhythm Section. In 1979 they remade Spooky and their version is much better. They eliminated the sax and add more keyboard and guitar solos and extended the length of the song.

The Classics IV are one of my favorites. At the time they were on the radio, they had a different sound than anyone else. Definitely not like the other groups that were popular. The first song I heard by them was called "Traces." Dennis Yost was the lead singer and had a wonderful and smooth voice.

Wow. I am familiar with this song as performed by ARS (Atlanta Rhythm Section). I did not know that their version was a cover of this earlier song by Classics IV. I do think the ARS version is better, though. The ARS version has much more and really good guitar work, and the song is much longer. There's a good live video on KZbin of ARS's version.

Tony Whitaker Some members of ARS came from the Classics IV. I saw them in Fla a few years ago and they played several of their hits.

The ARS version is 100X better. Fantastic guitar solo.

When I hear this song I picture the spooky girl as being very mysterious. Like he doesnt know where she lives, she only agrees to meet him out somewhere, like at the cemetery gates and dusk. He waits, looks down the road and doesnt see her and then suddenly she appears next to him without making a sound, and he jumps a little😳 Maybe they walk by a shop window and he can't see her reflection. Someone bumps into her on the sidewalk and doesnt say excuse me, and suddenly there's a clap of thunder and the person trips over something invisible and falls into a big puddle, and she has a little smile. Sometimes she looks at him with her big green eyes and he feels like she's cast a spell on him, he's hypnotized and will do whatever she wants. At the end of their date he'll turn to say goodnight, and suddenly she's vanished. He's confused and startled, looking all over, but all he sees is a black cat with big green eyes sitting on a fence, looking very innocent🙂
