It’s worth mentioning the differences in ‘Stance Width’ which will be part of purchasing a suit. I would say most people will want a Wide Stance. Unless you’re narrower than shoulder width, go with a Wide Stance suit. I am very slightly outside shoulder width and squat very comfortably with my WS.

Really looking forward to this series. I used to one of those equipped lifting haters but after following your channel over the past few years I've realize how much of a technical challenge equipped lifting is and how its actually harder than raw lifting! Since the start of the summer I've started having an itch to try equipped lifting. Unfortunately, I currently train at a university gym not a powerlifting gym and I don't have the time for an equipped workout anyway. Definitely want to try it out when I have the time to commit to it though!

Andrew, you could try starting out in briefs to begin with. They are much cheaper than a full suit and a lot of equipped lifters train primarily raw or in briefs until the last few weeks before a meet.

I recently retired and have competed raw. I bought a Titan Spartan suit but it does not have the same stretchy feel as their older suits. Chris, you can definitely squat and deadlift in briefs or a suit with the straps down in a garage gym. I would not recommend benching in a shirt unless you have friends to help you get it on and to spot. When a shirted bench gets off kilter it can really mess you up.

Great stuff! Would it be best to train once a week in squat suit or every other week? I'm 18 weeks out from my first single ply meet. Thanks
@calgarybarbell6 жыл бұрын
There's no real great answer to that, but if you can handle being in the suit every week, you'll get lots of practice. It's doubtful doing 18 weeks in a row would be too productive, but if you took a few well-planned low-stress or deload weeks, it might work well for you!

How do you prevent the legs holes from riding up too high? I had my first equipped meet the other day and during my deadlifts on my second attempt the suit legs rode up super high and I didn't have time to reset my suit so I didn't get as much support out of the suit as I did on my first and second attempt. I also opened incredibly low so I didn't get as many pounds out of my first and second attempts as I probably could/should have. Is there anything you do to make sure they don't ride up between or during attempts? Thanks Bryce!
@charliekeen50446 жыл бұрын
Put liquid chalk on your legs before putting your suit on. Alternatively it may be an indicator that you need your suit adjusted in the legs.
@calgarybarbell6 жыл бұрын
That's a great question, we actually deal with that in the deadlift suit video we filmed yesterday. But like Charlie Keen said, use some chalk. I don't use liquid chalk, but using regular chalk as well can keep the legs from riding up.
@ATPGym6 жыл бұрын
Slightly off topic but how long will the equip typically last? I recently started squating with wraps and I'm noticing the wraps dont feel as fresh as they did when they were a few months old. Is there a normal amount of time or avg of how long people typically get out of equipment?
@calgarybarbell6 жыл бұрын
Depends, I've used the same deadlift suit for 3 years and have no reason to get a new one. I've gone through 2 squat suits, and my new(er) one is starting to feel a bit loose so I'm going to modify it instead of just going for another new suit. I know Mike T would track how many uses in each piece of equipment it took before it got to where it felt ideal, and then I think he'd plan to have THAT number of uses before a meet, then commit a piece to being "training equipment" and get new stuff for next meet.
