My Subaru Outback lease was up last month. I didn't even consider the Solterra or BZ4X. Elon turned me off Tesla. I got a great lease on a Hyundai Ioniq 5. I'm extremely happy with my decision. I average 100 miles/month and charge at home.

Everyone has a house full of items made in communist China. Henry Ford was an anti-semite. Marry Barra lied about having two dozen EVs long ago. Carlos Ghosn of Nissan is a criminal and fugitive who was smuggled out of Japan in an instrument box. Volkwagen executives lied, cheated and polluted the Earth. Toyota is presently being investigated for emissions cheating on industrial motors in the USA. Executives for any company are not angels. Tesla has thousands of good employees who design, engineer and build the EVs. Musk is just a CEO, he doesn't assemble the vehicles. Don't let the opinions of one person get in your head and dictate what products to purchase.

Wish the progress was faster, but still good to see record growth for BEVs in CA, seems like NEVs are at 26% for CA (according to the chart) while China is at 55%. Crazy how far behind we are... Still the technology keeps improving while the prices keep falling. As long they keep building the charging infrastructure, I expect BEVs to be over 50% of new cars sold in USA by 2030.

Today's L.A. Times says "New car market share for battery electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles rocketed from 7.6% of new registrations in 2020 to 12.2% in 2021, 19.1% in 2022 and 24.9% in 2023. For the first nine months of this year, however, the market share has inched up to 25.6%, amid continuing concerns among some consumers over the higher cost for EVs and so-called range anxiety." Slightly different numbers in some cases than you quoted but in agreement overall that EV market penetration is moving right along in California.

Can we all agree that plug-in hybrids don't count as EVs? There is little data to show how much they are driven on battery versus carbon fuels.

True. But if you know the change resistant they need this step. Or they will not buy EV. See my comments on the Midwest. USA. Even if they just charge once a month it introduces them to EV process.

Mr Viking. According to the CEC- there are 2000 gas stations in LA county- the County King of gas consumption and smog in America. Each station makes $70k-$100k profit. In 2024 LAC gas demand is dropping by 2%- mostly due to the 250,000 EVs making LAC the Capital of EVs in America. Big Oil said gas consumption would never go down. At what point will stations start selling off their businesses. With thousands of EVs being purchased every week, a collapse seems to be imminent but when can you forecast it?

I'm in California and I bought a 2025 Tesla Model 3 Long Range RWD a couple of weeks ago. I bought it because I like the car (my first EV). I could care less what Musk's political views are, what Trumps political views are and what Harris/Walz political views are. I don't sit around wasting MY time obsessing about who's going to be the next CA Governor or President. I've done more for my own life than any politician (no matter what political party) could ever do for me. I'm getting up in years and I've been on this planet long enough to know that I control MY own destiny. Politicians (again, no matter what party) are pretty much the same as used car salesman in my book. Foster your own success and don't let Trump, Harris or anybody tell you that the world is about to end if the other person gets elected. Grow and feed your own success with your own brain everybody.

22% EV marketshare in sales... well, that's cute, but will somebody please wake me up when at least 40% of all cars being driven on the roads of a country (or state) are EVs?... They told me EVs are the future some 15 years ago already, so I really want to see when that future will arrive, what it will look like, and if it will finally be worth investing on a EV without the feeling of being nothing but a Premium ECO Beta EV Tester that drives a vehicle that belongs to a still niche car market that doesn't seem to know the state it will be in 5 years from now!...

We have the worst Gas Prices in the nation is some of the motivation . I think it may rival or be worst than Hawaii which use to have that title. There is a Red Republican part of California through the Central Valley Bakersfield to Redding also San Diego . As you said in your other article you would be fool not to buy a Tesla in California because of the support network. I don't like that Elon is trying to make America Trumpistan though .
@ohiojohn412517 сағат бұрын
Sam. I live in California. I have some input. One the Tesla sales fall is very much the fact that the competition is catching up. Not all political. It is odd he moves to state against EV. But chasing money only I get Musk. Even if I do not agree to just chase money. That said. Look past the west. If you go to the Midwest and Ohio valley where I grew up and talk to locals. They do not think the EV will make it thru winters. They see no charging stations. They really want gas. Plus less expensive. Recently they started to like hybrids. Also they see pure EV giving edge to China low cost EV. But they make a lot of gas engines. But we need to jump in with our auto makers. Look into a push with incentives to cut the cost for plug in hybrid with more than 50 miles pure electric to hit mid west. They are change resistant. But if they buy in. They have gas to take away fear of no charging. Incentives match cost. The plug in keep those jobs in Midwest over next ten years as example, that is a big plus for them. They need a first step to gain comfort. Also buys time for our auto manufacturers to catch up with EV China. And China and Tesla have to plug in. Win win for them. And moves us closer to climate change win. Not as fast as all EV but all EV in next 15 years is pipe dream in mid west. But they need to see lower cost change. Ev charging popping up. And end to the anxiety of no place to charge or cold weather if all EV. Look into this. Sorry for any typo.
@ctuna201115 сағат бұрын
Next generation of EV battery's will start to solve the Charge Loss with Cold and the some of the fast charging issues. Yeah the Middle of the country does not have good charging support and the distances are longer in some cases. I can understand why people want to keep there gas cars or get hybrids there.
@ohiojohn412514 сағат бұрын
@ yes. But it is more than that. I talk to them often. Even if that improves they simply do not like change. They do not believe in climate change politically too. They do like cutting costs. So key to get them moving is getting them in part gas part ev. Then they learn they tell me. But it has to be cheaper with gas as a fall back until charging stations are everywhere. Just do not get the charge at home. So many from my high school and current kids there from family see no need. Save them money and show that it saves them local jobs is key. But local politics does not want that. A mess. Only the big three word can help or union message that it will save jobs. Gotta be a money saver. Tens of friends express that same thing. Let alone the fact that many as hoppy like working on there cars, much more than in the west. Just saying. Hope Sam is listening.
@b48045149 сағат бұрын
A lot of this bad EV media attention is promoted by big oil and manufacturers that are failing the EV designs. Most people drive less that 30 miles a day. Climate is not a problem or any of the other issues like they burst into fire. BS sells
