This is actually my favorite Sarracenia. I like it more then the cobra lily and is much easier to grow. Great video

I really underestimated these plants, i thought of these as just fallen sarracenia pitchers …. Not only the type of their prey is amazing but also how effectively they catch it… really informative and interesting video

I like all Sarracenia species! I was amazed when the first time I learned this species and possibly some of their hybrids eat fish and tadpoles.

I have an S. ‘Scarlet Belle’ which I think is a cross between S. leucophylla and S. psittacina. It looks just like psittacina except the pitchers are almost vertical. Beauty! I’m totally in love and want an S. psittacina for sure!

I love this one. It's probably either my favorite or second favorite. My other favorite is purpurea. This might be the the next plant I get that's carnivorous. I currently have a hybrid of it named scarlet belle which looks great. Can you make a video all about the purpureas too?

We have a video about purpurea care in our feed! 😊

I just received mine from you today and am super excited since it's totally a sarracenia I can grow indoors, my sarracenias and vfts looked perfect indoors and outside they hate it idk y but they preferred it inside.. 4 plants lol

I got one of these when I got my first scarracenia and thought it'd be nice to have since its like an easier to grow cobra lily. It started to grow and looked weird and wasn't low. Turns out its a hybrid and its got a very long hood with a bigger opening. I just wish I knew which hybrid it is, because it looks super neat. I think its "doodlebug" or something similar to that.

There are a couple of great, classic hybrids available and ‘Scarlett Belle’ is another one that we love!
@meeknuggets48602 жыл бұрын
@@California_Carnivores Yeah. the more I look at mine, i think it might be "scarlett belle" instead. Its hard to tell since its still quite a small plant and it was unlabed at the nursery.

Do you think that this would be an okay one for indoors under lights? And dormancy. I love how these can survive water logged environments. Definitely a cool sarracenia.
@josephjude12902 жыл бұрын
Yes; I have mine sitting in water by my window. It’s really starting to grow. It’s one of the few Sarracenia that do well in the windowsill because of it’s small height
@California_Carnivores2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Just make sure to give it winter dormancy!

How does the Care differ from other sarrcenia? I really like how they look but I am in a cooler climate, zone seven, and as much as I would love one of these guys I am unsure if my winters would be too cold for them or if they would want to be potted up in a different compared to more vertically growing species.
@California_Carnivores2 жыл бұрын
They can be treated largely the same as other Sarracenia. They do like to be flooded with water from time to time and they tend to keep their pitchers on instead of having them all die back in winter. The purpurea ssp purpurea are the most cold hardy and may do really well for you but I would still mulch them in heavily in winter for added protection!
@dudoklasovity20939 ай бұрын
They are often fully submerged under water and can catch a small fish and larvae

I picked one of these up as just "sarencenia " a few months ago and I love its look! I'd love to get it in my pond. I'm unsure if I should divide it now or just repot as it's made a huge rosette and outgrowing it's pot. Any help would be appreciated . 😁
@California_Carnivores2 жыл бұрын
They like to form big clumps of plants and you can divide them or let them clump up. I prefer to let them get really clumpy and fill up the pot because it just looks so nice! If you decide to X divide them, wait until winter when they are not actively growing.

In regards to growing these from seeds, would they still have to go through the standard cold stratification like other Sarracenia species?
@California_Carnivores2 ай бұрын
Yes! It would benefit them

Those are cool looking. I personally love the cobra Lilly don’t think they’d survive in Calgary though
@omarvela31542 жыл бұрын
how do you feed them when they are small its very hard to drop ants or fish food inside their pitchers
@California_Carnivores2 жыл бұрын
We just mist them with diluted Maxsea fertilizer; it’s much easier to just foliar feed
