It’s absolutely hilarious how the “Press F to Pay Respects” meme has basically become so universal and serious that putting Fs in the chat when something goes wrong is just second nature now to everyone who regularly attends any gaming channels. And it all started as a piss-take of this game.

In any other game it would have been a cut scene, they fucked it up by trying to force you to give a lemon scented shit about some rando who I'm willing to bet you see for one mission before becoming dead because of plot! It will stay a meme for as long as the franchise lives!

Also funny how it came about because the meme started when this game came out, then sort of died for a while and then 2-3 years later it's back and just hasn't left. I'm not sure what made everyone collectively start remembering this game again

Am I the only one that wants to see the rebirth of WWII games, hell, even WWI or the fucking Civil War, or even wars my ignorance blocks me from. I'm tired of modern war or future war games. I thought older wars, WWII in particular were the best. I used to be scared of tanks in those rather than seeing them as targets for jeep stuff. I grew up on the first 3 CoDs, the older Medal of Honors, Brothers in Arms, etc, and I'm not ashamed to say I loved them; charging into battle or being shot for fleeing as a Russian, fighting across North Africa, landing on beach heads. Am I the only one that wants to see that with these new graphics and physics? And besides, no one feels bad or politically incorrect in killing Nazis.

Personally after looking at This War Of Mine I suddenly have a craving for an FPS or TPS (although an FPS would probably be a bit better for the visceral feeling) war survival game, along the lines of The Last Of Us only instead of zombies, it's just you trying to survive against the occupying force/rebels.

CoD doesn't realize it's on the same road Halo was on, and there is nothing they can do to stop it. you can look at history repeating its self but those that don't learn are doomed to repeat it. CoD will just keep telling it's self it's still hip and cool like a 46 year old mom trying to pull off pink hair and speaking like a 16yr old, but the sad truth is it's just becoming a parody of itself.

It's not that it doesn’t realise, but rather it KNOWS that people still spend unnecessarily large amounts of money on it. They will continue to syphon money from gamers until the series has run dry. Then they will find something else. This is a profit orientated company after all.

Because the COD series haven't been very bad over recent years (except for Ghosts and Blops 1). The gameplay is still fun and the multiplayer is still excellent, the whole problem is that they don't innovate. People say the same towards Mario and Zelda, but Nintendo has refined those games to almost perfection, while this series has been refined to games that will consistently score 7/10s. Not bad games, by almost any standard, the story just moves too fast in most cases. I'm looking at you, MW3. Russia can not invade all of Europe in one day.

Are we ever going to get a meaningful war game about the Vietnam War? Like perhaps an unbiased attempt at commentary of the time period and war itself? That might actually be an interesting game about an interesting period of wartime, rather than modern/future wars versus "The corporations maaaan!" Or hell, I'd be ok with going back to WW2 or WW1 since we haven't visited the time periods in so many years of gaming. The advancements in graphics and physics would be much appreciated

Breandán Ó Ciarraí Specifics, not a ton. I do know that we pay them far too much to research things we don't have an actual need for. Cool shit, but highly unnecessary.
@BreandanOCiarrai
@BreandanOCiarrai 8 жыл бұрын
Ah, I see where the confusion is. PMCs are the support and security for the military and Dept. of State, providing logistics and such predominantly- hence why, unlike when I first enlisted 25 years ago, we no longer have MOSes like Laundry and Bath Specialist or Cook- to free up the military to focus on combat operations and streamline their manpower. Likewise, the Force Protection contracts man the perimeter defenses and such to free up combat arms soldiers to be redeployed for their purpose- warfighting- rather than sitting in a tower 12 hours a day. Diplomatic security (DS) and general PSD work is the smallest portion of PMC operations, but what generally makes the press due to the rather flashy nature of it in the eyes of the media, but even then all we really do is babysit DoS and related personnel while they are out and about doing their jobs in warzones (gross oversimplification, granted, but the core is accurate). The reason this is done is to streamline budget application for the federal government by only creating these force multipliers when needed. A soldier is funded their entire enlistment, whereas a contractor is paid only for the duration of the contract. So, if you don't need them, you are able to cut back the spending. 2012 through today has seen a serious lean time in contracting due to troop drawdowns in Iraq and Afghanistan, saving the Dept. of Defense a LOT of money overall. What you are referring to are a different group of corporations- defense contractors. Those are companies or private-sector/government hybrid groups who develop technology, provide services, and do research and development predominantly for the Dept. of Defense (though they also do so for pretty much every other federal department or agency, ranging from DHS to the Dept. of Education), such as Lockheed-Martin, BAE, General Dynamics, Boeing, Raytheon, etc. The corporate/government hybrids are things like DARPA, JPL, etc. that are half government agency, half corporate research and development group. Defense contractor corporations are as steeped in nepotism, graft, and sweetheart deals as the multinational banking firms and tech industries, which is where much of the corporate-government collusion comes in. They are a very different creature from PMCs- think Exxon vs. Brinks Security, if that metaphor helps- and rarely if ever have budget decreases.
@NearEDGE
@NearEDGE 8 жыл бұрын
Breandán Ó Ciarraí I understand what you're saying. Now I'd argue that PMC in general is a very vague phrase, so what you described which seems to be like a kind of mercenary agency(and I am using the phrase loosely) which would also be a PMC as I use the phrase, and I don't want to vilify them. The second half here is spot on, that is exactly who I'm referring to. I love the work that Boeing and Raytheon in particular do for the Military, but a lot of it is unnecessary. We don't need plasma rifles, plasma shields, invisible tanks, and human exoskeletons(These are all things that the US Military either has or is funding the development of by the way. We have 3/4 of these things). I feel like whoever writes the checks for this stuff has been playing way too much Halo.

***** it really depends on the game. 60 dollars (or 40 pounds or so here in the UK) would be a little steep for a 6 hour long FPS campaign with no MP unless it was mind-blowingly awsome . But a 100+ hour long open world rpg to me would be worth it (as long was good). If i thought i would get my money's worth of a game I'd be happy with it no matter if it's SP MP or both. To me it's the enjoyment i get from it and partly the length of the game that decides if it's worth it.

This video is two years old and this has very likely been mentioned before, but since I'm only 40 seconds into the video I feel I should point this out: comparing Call of Duty to Friday the 13th and suggesting that they throw in Pinhead reminds me that they ALREADY DID something like that the year before - they put Michael Meyers in Call of Duty: Ghosts.

2014 convinced me that the world had indeed ended in 2012. I know this because I now considered a CoD game superior to a Halo game. Why is this? Mostly because Advanced Warfare proves that at least some people in Infinity Ward aren't stupid and are willing to take a leap of faith and change their game for the sake of making it less dull. It's no longer "Modern Warfare PIII 1/2" where you have the game repeat itself over and over again whereby it is essentially full-price DLC with a sub-sequential bonus graphics update only available for that version. It actually walked forward a bit and looked at what the world could be like in the near future in terms of its military technology, and see whether or not we'd actually progress as a civilization (or otherwise fall apart) in the next 3-4 decades or if we'll just be the same as we were before. It actually gave me an appreciation for watching a walkthrough (because the PC version apparently sucks and I'm a cheapskate) in full HD because now I had a chance to appreciate all the shiny things. Whereas Halo (or should I say SpaceCoD) proves to me that Microsoft has indeed taken the piss and that there are some people so brainwashed by Infinity Ward that they can't make a unique game to save their life much less make something worth playing or similar to the original.

Between this game and Fuse/Overstrike, I wonder if any game developers out there- along with most of Hollywood- have ever actually researched PMCs beyond the I-heard-it-on-the-internet-so-it-must-be-true propaganda garbage they appear to buy into. I hate to break it to them, but PMCs are not staffed by some Thugs-R-Us temp agency. When it comes to armed personnel we are all veterans and/or law enforcement with extensive experience, often Tier One operators from special forces or SWAT, i.e. the sorts of people who often get praise when they are in uniform from the very same folks who accuse them of being "mercenary thugs" the instant they go private sector. I also hate to burst the CoD gun fetishist bubble, but the vast majority of PMC contractors are from KBR, and do things like laundry, maintenance, sewage treatment, medical, cooking inedible food, etc. The actual armed personnel make up a very small percentage, and are- as mentioned- drawn from NATO and allied militaries and law enforcement agencies. And we don't run about the desert hunting terrorists (glaring at you, Hurt Locker, you know what you did), we protect facilities and personnel. We're basically security guards with much higher training and pay. Sorry, folks, but that's the reality of it: we are no more "mercenaries" than the security guard at your bank or the bodyguard trying not to throttle Bieber. Granted, that's not as sexy and cool as the straw man caricature of Generic Evil Bad Guy Mercenary Corporation #221 game developers and studios come up with to avoid pissing off actual hostile nations in the hopes of being able to peddle their games in those markets, but it is deserving of an epic skull-rattling derisive eye-roll.

And then there are the kinds of mercenaries who everyone loves: Deadpool, Agent Washington, Deadshot, etc. All of whom kill for money, but are given a tragic past that compels them to do the wrong thing for the right reasons. I think one of the main things most shooters are struggling with these days is to make their villains' motivations believable. Look at Infinite Warfare: Admiral Kotch might as well be dropping his victims in a pool full of frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams on their frickin' heads, while scratching Mr. Bigglesworth behind the ears... Not every criminal enterprise is run by an Austin Powers villain.

You must not have looked at very much about this game, have you? I'll give you a quick overview. THEY TRIED NEW SHIT! YOU CAN DOUBLE JUMP AND BOOST AROUND! YOU CAN USE SPECIAL ABILITIES NOT RELATED TO KILLSTREAKS, THERE IS A FUCKING LASER GUN. Shit has changed, maybe not too radically, I mean it is still a CoD game and feels like a CoD game, but it has changed the formula just enough to make it fresh and interesting again. Open you eyes and instead of bitching about companies shelling out the same shit every year, notice when they fucking innovate!
@moonkingdomify
@moonkingdomify 9 жыл бұрын
Brandon Cowan oh wow. A laser gun, I'd rather play Halo. I'll go play either a James Bond game or Halo for that. You know what game innovated, The Hoenn Pokemon remakes. Firstly, they remake all the music in the games. They make actual cutscenes. The ability to fly on the back of Latios/Latias over the map instead of forcing a Pokemon to learn fly, using up one of the slots changes the game drastically. You can fly to more than just cities now. They go in and change dialogue in order to integrate Mega Evolution into the main story. They flawlessly integrate Emerald into the main story. They give a conclusion for every character important to the plot. That is innovation. And adding in a laser gun isn't innovative at all, in fact that idea has been used since the 60's. And do you mean perks? Yeah, they totally weren't in any of the other games.
@James_Bee
@James_Bee 9 жыл бұрын
Thank you for proving my point, Brandon. Regurgitated crap.
@brandoncowan9029
@brandoncowan9029 9 жыл бұрын
The Sentient Ditto No, not perks. Activatable abilities. Push a button, and an ability is activated in the game. Say like, cloaking, temporary speed boost, or temporary extra health. Now, no one new mechanic in the new CoD is very original as they have all been used in a lot of other games, but how they were used was defineatly quite well. Just like how all the cool things you mentioned from that Pokemon game were not original ideas, but well executed implementations of preexisting ideas. It makes for a good video game, and seeing as the CoD series has been stagnate for a long time, any bit of change provides a lot of impact to how the game pays and feels. On which I'll say again, no these things aren't new to gaming, but they are new to CoD, and that should be acknowledged and respected. Just try playing a bit of the game at a friend's house or something. You'll be able to see what I mean.
@brandoncowan9029
@brandoncowan9029 9 жыл бұрын
James Bee Wait, how does that at all prove your point? I mention they add new mechanics and that means its regurgitated crap? Try playing the new CoD for a little bit, and if you have ever enjoed one of the previous games in the series, like say CoD4, you might really enjoy it.

You know, I think Yahtzee is being a little bit unfair here. He didn't even mention the multiplayer (or exo-survival) (or bots), and I think he would have a higher opinion of this if he did. The jump boost and such movement abilities really add something to the game, and eco survival is fun too. I think it is also possible that Yahtzee thinks that all viewers want a negative review. I certainly don't want all negative, and I think some other people agree with me.

Yahtzee doesn't review multiplayer because, as he says, he has no friends. Also, Multiplayer is entirely based on the people you get to play it with, not the game itself. As such, it's impossible to codify how good or bad it is. Single player, though, is the same for everyone, and that's what he reviews.

Wasabeeeeee12145 Whole? No... Also it isn't about the scale. The maps could be even as big as in ArmA and it wouldn't make it better. The gameplay is just terrible. I think you should check out Battlefield 2. And how about some Call of Duty 2? They were both very good First Person Shooters. But now, BF3, BF4, and all of the CoDs are just generic garbage. Also modern BF map? Actually, CoD's largest map is a section of a modern BF map. Unlike in the first games of that series, where BF had even bigger maps and CoD, too. Detail? Much more time spent? You are funny, since it is buggy as hell. Floating pieces of debry everywhere and also some very DYNAMIC* destruction. If you have ever played the Campaign, you will see that it is horrible. It could be even used as torture. Call of Duty's are much better then BF's campaigns. At least Activision is actually putting some effort in milking its franchise. *in this case just some scripts giving buildings HP and letting them destroy always the same way, wow so dynamic! Also once again, it looks like there are lot of kids here, who don't even understand that someone can hate both of that horrible garbage(which you call games). So same applies to you. Just stop replying to someone, if you don't even understand, what that guy wrote. Esspecially if you come with that generic type of answer, that you can not compare BF and CoD. Tell me why not? They are both generic shooters, they are both garbage, they have both a greedy publisher and both have an idiotic fanbase. You both are ridiculous and it is just funny how you are trying to troll someone.

I know it's been 3 years but I just want to say that the entire story of CodAW is that nobody is really right, especially one line where they say "both sides convinced that they're fighting on the side of the angels". Then again, Atlas was profiting off of the deaths of thousands upon thousands and was planning more simply because irons wanted to rule over the world to install peace. Honestly, for a cod game it really outlines a lot of the morality issues in a sensible way.
