got this wedge this week, shot my lowest score of the year,so easy to get airborne on those tricky behind a bunker or downhill short chips,game changer for me.

I am also put a 58* PM grind in my bag. Once you see you ball landing softly and stopping out of deep rough around the green you forget what it looks like. I also find it great out of the sand.

I went to a callaway demo day and wanted to try the MD3 wedges, but the guy talked me into trying the PM Grind, and it is so easy to hit and very easy to flop if you open face and but out of the toe. now just got to get over the looks of the thing!

Have the 56 and 60. As someone who really enjoys playing wedges to get it close from near the green (aka. misses too many greens in regulation), I really enjoy the ability to play virtually any shot from any situation.

I think it's the Ping Eye 2 wedge mark is thinking of in the design of the PM grind wedge! Mickelson used one in more recent times so it wouldn't surprise me if that's where the design for this club came from
@dciccoritti9 жыл бұрын
***** Yup! It was made to remove Phil's PING Eye2 lob wedge out of his Callaway bag. I play the PING Eye2 Gorge L wedge and IMO, it's the best wedge I've ever played. I completely understand why Phil loved his PING wedge so much.
@Leftienige9 жыл бұрын
Davide Ciccoritti The only reason some tour players who were signed up to other brands suddenly had to source Ping wedges from the 80's was the rule change on wedge grooves . Ping Eye-2s had been deemd illegal by the USPGA back then , but after a court-room battle ( which Ping won ) they still can be used to this day . So a few players had their "people" find Eye-2s to tide them over while their own brand found another way make "grabby" wedges that conformed to the new regs .
@tatchy10019 жыл бұрын
***** There's a guy on the Rick Sheils review of this club I'm having an argument with as he said this club it a 'clone' of the Ping Eye2 wedge and I said while it has a high toe similar to the Ping to describe it as a clone is ridiculous lol
@dciccoritti9 жыл бұрын
tatchy1001 The club was designed solely to replace Phil's PING Eye2 wedge. This was not some new idea for a wedge by either Phil or Roger. The combination of a high toe, grind and offset are what makes both of these wedges very, very similar. I play the PING Eye2 and have hit the PM Grind and for me, they play virtually identical. Sorry but it's knock off, or a "very inspired design (if you wish). If the PING Eye2 wedge never existed, this wedge wouldn't either. I will also add that in 10 years, golfers will still be playing the Eye2 and the PM Grind will be nothing but a google search. Just my opinion of course :-)
@tatchy10019 жыл бұрын
Davide Ciccoritti I think you'll find I never said it was an original idea and indeed made reference to the fact Roger designed this club with the high toe because Phil was using the Eye 2 L wedge. They may 'play the same' in your hands but the designs 'other than the high toe are very different. May I suggest you read this article and decide if they just copied it (ignoring the fact it looks nothing like it, has different grooves, no cavity, different heel relief, different grind, different top line, different weight distribution, different material, different neck amount of offset (this is actually onsey) and different finish of course mygolfspy.com/callaway-pm-grind-wedge-review

I put the 64 in my bag because I have trouble with opening the face on traditional wedges. I'm a 20 HCer and hit 23/25 shots onto a green within 2 yd of each other from 45 yds. It went home. I loved it. I have trouble with opening a 60 in a bunker, so I figure this might be the ticket. Hope to try it in the spring. Love the look. #MarkCrossfieldRocks
@sledge19609 жыл бұрын
+Julia-6 I agree entirely with all you say. I fail to see the point of opening the wedge's face when you can use a lower lofted club without all the contortions that involves. 64 degree with low bounce ticks the boxes, plus it's great for hopping over greenside bunkers to tight pins, which we higher handicappers seem to find ourselves staring at all too often.

Callaway used to have a wedge called the "Hickory Stick" that was rather large and kinda funky. It also had a thinner steel shaft with some wood veneer over top - don't think it was an all hickory wooden shafted club. A friend of mine had one and he was magic with it.

Although perhaps counter intuitive wouldn't the higher CG equal less spin on fuller square shots (a positive in some situations here in Texas with super fast summer greens that are constantly watered during the day).

just rewatching these...part of it may be shaft too, look at difference in launch too. where you strike on face, I wonder if you are more prone to striking to the toe because of shape and losing spin because you miss CG? anyhow, as much as I love my vokeys and the SM6 range, I am still thinking about this as a 60.

Is there a standard size for a wedge or iron much in the way a driver can't be more than 460cc? Just seemed to me that enlarging the toe and making the wedge larger than others might have to be within a tolerance?

So if you hit the ball with the face open and thus hitting the grooves at an angle, would that cause a different spindirection on the ball causing it to roll more to the right when it lands or is direction of strike way more causing the spin ? Just curious if you notice any difference...

I bought this wedge and absolutely couldn't hit it to save my life. I thought I'd end up like Phil, but it was horrible for me. I sold my SM5 when I got this so I went out and got the MD3 60 and I'm back to hitting my normal 60* shots. I might try some more, but it'll probably just gather dust in the closet.
@naftalithaithi48128 жыл бұрын
Sell it. Sure wouldn't mind buying it rather than it sits gathering dust.

I just added the 64 degree pm grind. I am having success with chipping and pitching. Do you think it is too much loft for the bunker? I currently use a titleist 58 and 54 out of the bunker. Is there a maximum loft that you would recommend out of the bunker?
@bengodleman189 жыл бұрын
+azjim321 it's what you feel comfortable with I could hit a 52 out of a bunker and still launch it the same at my 59 degrree wedge, so i don''t think you could have too much loft. it just means the more loft the higher and shorter the ball will go which means you will have to make a longer swing. and that means you might be less accruate. hoped that helped

@JayeHK9 жыл бұрын
Grooves all the way to the edge is genius. Bigger toe also good. Shame about the stupid name "Mack Daddy". Bounce is 13 degrees on the 56 and 10 degrees on the others; lower bounce lob option would be good. Still think they owe Renegar for that grind.

Garrett Marshall Nothing snobbie about me, will happily mix it with anybody, would have thought that would have been obvious from my posts. Do take exception to idiots that attack fellow professionals in public like that disgraceful exhibition after the Rhyder Cup, basically he had to blame everybody except himself for the fact they weren't good enough. The others, like Fowler and Watson just got on with it and determined to make sure they would do better next time and took their grievances out behind closed doors. I have no doubt they were just as cutting in private but had the discipline to remember they were playing for their country. He also makes such stupid remarks in golf tips calling everybody stupid who thinks it should be done differently, the hallmark of an idiot I think ;-)
@vicibox9 жыл бұрын
Garrett Marshall Bubba and Rickie have loyalty and pride in playing for their country, I have immense respect for that. Every great player has an opinion and will voice it when appropriate as did all the team when deciding where to go next. I have no respect for Phil because he showed himself up and his country. He just came across as a whinging loser. I see him as part of the problem in america's decline. No team discipline.
