You know, there are people who know a lot about these things but just don't have the ability to convey knowledge. Thanks to this man, everything seems easy. Simple and logically explained, best video of X32 ! Thanks ! Ps.Maybe next time you will be able to play the recorded live mix, it would be more interesting. But anyway, the best video I've watched, and I've watched a lot!

I work for a community theater. we are looking into upgrading our current 24ch analog peavey mixer with a Behringer X32. having never run a digital board I was skeptical but your video has put much of that to rest. I am now looking forward to getting the new board up and running for our production of "Beauty and the Beast" this September.

My church is about to pick one of these up, and I'm trying to work something out beforehand so I have an idea how to patch everything. You mentioned that you have 14 channels running to the Aviom rack. Are you running the 5 stage monitors through the AUX out, then? Our setup currently involves 16 Aviom channels (from direct outputs), which would max out the XLR outputs on this board. Are there other ways to do this, if, for example, I want a subwoofer and center channel out in addition to all those monitors/Aviom channels (without the digital snake option)? As a side question, do you run both wedges and Avioms on your stage? Is there a way to run Aviom mixes through the sends on fader function? Thanks, steve
@plunkettjbrandon
@plunkettjbrandon 10 жыл бұрын
We are running both monitors and avioms, Avioms for the bass and drums, while everybody else is on monitors. We are running the monitors on stage through the aux outs, The way we have it running right now isn't the "Best" way to run the system, the best way to run the system, would, In my opinion, sell your aviom systems, and go get behringer system, you would probably end up making money on it by doing it that way. Yes, you can use the avioms with the sends on fader option, It's not really a practical way to do things, or really it defeats the purpose of the avioms, in the sense that if you want to have everything go to a single channel, you'll lose the ability for the musician to have his own personal mix. If you do it another way, which is to separate different instruments into different groups, such as putting all the drums together in a single bus, then sending all of those drums to a single channel, you could, in theory, have a decent amount of control still in the musicians hands. The beauty of this board is that no matter what channel something is plugged into, or what output is going where, you can digitally route every signal in the board where you want it, So, for example, If you want whatever is plugged into channel 32 to appear on channel 1, You can tell channel one on the board to control what ever is plugged into chan32. Outputs are the same, you can tell each output what you want routing to it, For example, You have output 10 plugged into the aviom system, And you want that channel to be all of your drums combined, All you have to do is send your drums to a mixbus, make sure the mixbus is not routing to your L/R bus, and for safety of not having a person forget to turn up the slider, Make it a prefader mixbus. and go into the routing menu and tell scroll to output 10 on the left column, and select the mixbus with the drums in the second column. If you do it this way, Understand that you will have to solo that mixbus, and mix the drums so you can easily hear each drum. It may take a little while to dial it in properly, and you have to make sure the musician knows, that he/she will only be able to turn the drums up or down as a single unit, So if for example, you have a bass player that only wants to hear the kick, or just the kick and snare, it will not be possible. Unless everybody who is using the avioms only wants the kick or kick and snare. then you as a tech would have to manually adjust it. As you might guess, It could create a lot more issues for you, And definitely alot more work for you, work that the aviom systems are designed to take away from you, so you can focus on the main mix. As I mentioned before, If you're thinking about using in the same way you would use a wedge, IE, send all the instruments to a single bus, then send it to a single channel on the aviom, I would suggest you Go get something like the wireless senhieser in ear system, or Shure system, Not only will that give you a better sound, it will also make the musicians happy by not keeping them tethered to a pole on the stage. you would still have to mix each person individually, Unless you took advantage of the Qmix app for iPad iPod, and iPhones. But at least you would be able to sell the avioms to pay for the wireless system, and maybe (if you're lucky) have some money left over to pay for other things to make your system better. Or your worship experience better in some way. My personal recommendation though, is to ditch the aviom systems, and pick up behringers system. It's just as good, if not a bit better, and you don't have to sacrifice all of those outputs that can be used for something much better. again, you would probably be able to make money on the aviom system, I know I priced out the cost of the behringer system, and it ran at about 2500 for all of the units we currently have with our aviom systems. that's with an AES50 distribution unit, which you don't technically need, since you can link them together. Not the "Cleanest" way to do things, but it would work. There is one other option, Which I do not know much about, I was told about it, but haven't been able to find anything on it, and honestly didn't look to much into it. But I have been told there is an expansion card for the x32 that would allow you to use your aviom systems natively with the board. it would be called something along the lines of AES50 to Anet converter. Downside, you would lose your firewire/usb abilities with it. So multi-tracking a worship service wouldn't be possible with the firewire, I do believe there is an option to connect and record via cat5, But I can't confirm that. But If you don't ever plan on recording, and don't want to switch to behringers units, it is a good thing that you should look into. I Hope this has been helpful/informative, Sorry that it's a bit long, and not well put together, It's been a really long weekend, and I'm pulling this out as I type. If you have any other questions, or would like to chat about the system, Fell free to email me, bj@calvarylhc.com(I will reply with a different email, since it is forwarded to my personal email address) and I would be more than happy to help you out in anyway I can. Wow, thanks so much for going so in depth. That was a ton of information. I really appreciate it. We haven't gotten into multi-track recording, but that's something I definitely want to move toward. I'll definitely look into swapping the Avioms for the P16s, though. I didn't connect the dots that the Ultranet would free up all the outputs on the board. duh. lol Thanks again! very insightful.

***** Not a problem, Glad I was able to help. I've only been using the board since November 2013, So I'm still learning the system, But I have had the opportunity to work with it outside of our services a lot, So I have been able to pick the features apart a bit. We haven't gone the p16 route primarily because we will be moving to our new building in about a year, (construction starts on it in the next month or two) and we're going to a new system (The midus m32, basically the upgraded version of the x32) and we are only using 2 of our 7 aviom units, one on the bass the other on the drums. So it's not really a huge priority to us, it won't make a big enough difference to justify the time it would take to sell the avioms and then get the new system. as I said though, Feel free to email me if you have any thing else that you want to ask, learn, talk about ect. bj@calvarylhc.com

I would never recommend to put reverb in the monitors it will only make things sound worse and make it harder for the vocalist to hear the voice, if the artist insists on effects in the wedges (which is dumb ) then try a delay so that only the tail of the effect is hanging on after the singer stops singing. (unless the artist is on in-ears then effects are a different story).

Hi, my church just purchased a new x32. We have not installed it yet as we are waiting to build a new sound booth. I noticed from the video that your church is set up very similarly to ours and I was wondering if you could possibly send me a few pictures and maybe general dimensions of your sound booth. Thanks for the informative video.
@plunkettjbrandon
@plunkettjbrandon 10 жыл бұрын
I can give you a general spec of it, It's about 8 ft wide, and about 5 deep, and it's elevated about 2 feet above the floor. But I wouldn't build your sound booth to those dimensions, Ours was designed about 25 years ago, and they didn't anticipate us ever having what we have in it. our booth is just big enough to fit two medium sized people comfortably, a third if you don't mind being close. The first thing I would suggest is building the sound booth as large as they will let you, And also, If you notice in the video behind Alan, there are panels running along the top of the wall in the sound booth, they are made out of plexi glass. I would recommend NOT putting anything like that on your booth, they actually cause very bad and irritating reflections while you're mixing and actually impact your mix negatively.
@bryanjames8351
@bryanjames8351 10 жыл бұрын
Brandon Plunkett Thanks for mentioning the plexiglass. That is something I noticed and has been mentioned in the talks. Ours will be about 12 feet wide and at least 6 feet deep but I'm hoping to talk them into letting us take out one more pew that will get us up to about 9 feet. Do you have a door on yours?
@plunkettjbrandon
@plunkettjbrandon 10 жыл бұрын
Bryan James we do, It's just a little half door, it comes in handy during our plays and stuff, but most of the time it is just left open, I tend to jump in and out of the sound booth alot during our services, so keeping it open prevents noise.

Can you please explain, how to play music from a phone ( Samsung) in this console ?? Thanks in advance
@CalvaryLHC
@CalvaryLHC 7 жыл бұрын
There are many ways. The ideal way would be to use a special cable that has a stereo 3.5mm jack (headphone jack) on one end, and then has two RCA (Red and White phono) or 1/4" mono connectors on the other end. In this scenario, one 1/4" or RCA is Left info, and the other is the right info. Connect them to the inputs of two channels (any two, your choice) and you should have signal coming in on those channels. All of this is assuming your phone has a headphone output via 3.5mm jack.

Newer firmware 2.1 has a real time analyzer that shows the RTA over your EQ. What ever frequency is peaking out needs to be dropped out in the channel, or house LCR Sides, fills. or bus sends depending on the issue of the the day/venue/application. Back in the day we just did this by proper "ringing out PA. and Ringing out monitors using only our ears. Please keep in mind even with good ears it can be upper or lower harmonics. For example, you got 3.15 being a total bitch. No matter what you do when you stuff the 58 near the horn it kills ears RIGHT? Sometimes 3.15 isn't really the problem child! Try dropping out 6.3K and surrounding frequencies, likewise 630 may be the issue. Sometime even when you got every frequency down one throws a curve in live sound. Trust your ears but know your harmonics as well. Mixing audio with you eyes will only get you so far.
