This video is about cleaning the inside of the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS lens. The lens had dust behind the front lens element, so in this video the front lens was removed, the lens was cleaned, then the front lens was assembled.

Amazing! I've noticed a bit of fungus forming on the second element and was sure that was the end of that lens. I'm going to try and resurrect this lens tomorrow. Thank you so much

@@CamerasLensesEtc I did it and was successful. One of the screw had seased so I had to drill out the screw head with a dremel and replace it. I wouldn't have felt confident even attempting something like this without your videos. Can you please do a video on what to do if a screw seases or you accidentally ruin the screw head? I'm sure there is a better way than taking a drill to it, I was just very lucky it worked out

You have done very good job.At our India I see the lens fungus cleaning here by the SOLA tree stem.(scientific name is Aeschynomene aspera )A very soft whitish spongy wood.Its have no risk of scratch on the lens when rubbing for cleaning the lens surface.Thank you.

The poor decal ring. If you plan to do this, please use a hairdryer on medium setting to carefully soften the adhesive under the decal ring first and only then peel it off. Damaging the adhesive can result in an uneven decal ring surface after reattachment.

So reading one of the comments below about fungus, is this front element actually two lenses bonded together? If so, I have fungus visible right in the centre of the lens and while I can now see how to remove the front element I'm worried that the fungus might be in the middle of the sandwich. 😱

Well, removing the front element is quite easy, and after you removed it, you can actually see if the fungus is between the two lens elements or on the inner side of the front lens.

Oh yes, the common issue of these 17-50/2.8.. dust on the back of front element. I've cleaned mine two times. At least it is quite easy.

I did clean the front element now, but I noticed that the middle elements have some fungus or dust, how can I clean those?

If the fungus is between the molded elements, then you're out of luck. It is almost impossible to separate them and mold them together correctly.

You can buy 1mm wide adhesive gold tape. (Normally used for nail decoration.) I use the silver one for Canon lenses.

hi the screw driver should be JIS or philips. PH000 indicates it is philips and PH000 screw driver does not work for sigma lense from japan

I have tried JIS screwdrivers, but the PH worked better for me.

Yes I think I might have the same problem...crappy manufacturing from Sigma....won't be buying their stuff again.
