Hi Dr. John Campbell, thanks for another good lecture. One thing i dont really get, wherever i check i see that normal value for glucose in the blood is between 70-110 but you sad at the begining of this lecture it should be between 4-8. What have i missed? Thanks

You are in mg per 100 mls of blood units, in Europe we measure it in millimoles. I agree, its a pity we are not on the same page for units.

Thanks for the quick replay. There are lots of videos on youtube with all the different subjects for med school but yours are by far the easiest to understand. I dont know if you realize how helpfull are your videos and how easy is to learn when you have a good lecturer. Ps: please shot a video also on blood PH, anion gap and the disorders/mixed disorders of the blood PH. Thank you again for these wonderfull lectures.

Dr. John Campbell Thanks for your reply Dr. John Campbell. I'm currently attending pharmacy school at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) in the US. Despite having learned some of this material, you never cease to amaze me in the respect that I always learn something new or see things from a different angle whenever I watch your videos. Even before I was accepted into the program, you helped me study for the biology section of the pharmacy college admissions test/PCAT for which I got a 99% on, so I appreciate everything!

The brain can get along quite well using ketones for energy. Some say it's the brain's preferred source because when both are available, the brain uses ketones FIRST..

Sorry to report some mistakes in this nicely presented lecture. At 5:00, you mention all energy is provided by the mitochondria. Glycolysis produces ATP from glucose and takes place in the cytosol, not in the mitochondria. At 5:30, you mention that you need oxygen to create energy. Glycolysis does not require oxygen. Simplification is good, but to state all energy comes from the mitochondria is really just incorrect.
