He sees Tao treat the elderly woman across the street with respect and help her with groceries and realizes he is not a bad person after all and yet his own family sucks, they want to put him in a home, and they just want his house and stuff so when he builds a relationship with the neighbors who are grateful for his standing up for them, he treats them like family in return. His language is awful but his heart is good.

Walt reminds me of my dad and his friends. They talked shit about each other and everyone else equally. Dad was an old school tough guy who called it as he saw it, but when it came right down to it he had more respect for a person’s work ethic than their race or ethnicity. He loved us unconditionally and worked so hard his whole life for us. Unlike the movie we adored and respected my father.

It is indeed the hardest road to walk, Richard. That evil beast came for my wife too. It'll be twelve years in the coming February. The love you had will never die but the pain of losing her will stay with you too. So the only good advice I can give is that, when the first phase of grieving is behind you, you have to expand your life so that the pain of that death is not all you have. Otherwise it will eat you away - dying of a broken heart is very real and that is very much not what our wives would wish for us.

I've lived in an apartment complex for about three years, when I first moved the grounds were regularly tended, there was no litter in the common areas and the trash dumpsters were filled evenly, because both were fully opened. Nobody stuffed old furniture in them and people put their trash in the dumpster. The sprinkler system worked, and the common recreational area was nicely grassy, year-round. Now we've a bunch new, young people in charge of management and maintenance, along with a bunch of new tenants that really don't seem to care. I have to stay here one more year, after that, I'm out.

Most people or young folks today don’t realize how tough it was to live in that time frame Things were much much different back then and harder but regardless of what they may say, it is in their actions and how they respond to you as a person and how you handle the situation. Respect is not given to you it is earned. If you show respect You will gain respect. I appreciate you sharing. Please take care and be safe. 🫶🏻❤️🤠

touching, yes. racist....not in the least. This story in this film is NOT a redemption story. It is not an angry old white racist learning the errors of his ways. Clint Eastwood is FAR too intelligent for that tired, old ridiculous movie trope. The main character is not a racist. Not at the beginning of the film and not at the end of the film. If anyone comes away from watching this film with that idea.....then you missed the point of the film entirely. You got the message that you wanted to get but you missed the message of the film. On another note. Rocky1/Rocky2 are NOT boxing films. The godfather is not a gangster film. I could go on and on.

Walt is a little racist and not a great person, but he is a good person. He has a lot of grief and anger. He is not the noble character in many respects, but he is when things have to get done. He changes for the better in this movie. Tao and his family and the priest really turn him around. Sometimes I hear things like his family is so bad etc. But he is part of what made his family the way it is. He even confesses how he messed up his son. I like this movie because Walt, Tao and family, and the priest seem like real people. They are not perfect or know how to communicate well (especially Tao, Walt, and the priest also at least to Walt). But they learn how to communicate as they see the others are good people. As far as some of the racist stuff. I do not think many in today's world know how to react to it. Everyone is so ready to cancel people over anything today and act like they are superior. Give me Walt as a PIA any day over fake DEI and critical race theory. As a chaplain I really like how they did the priest in this movie and how he shows he worth and mettle no matter what Walt thought of him at the beginning of the movie. Walt was wrong about him but he loved Walt and stayed with it even though Walt was treating him badly and was showing some ignorance. Also it shows how Walt was not good to his family. He was a jerk. He somewhat got what he deserved but hopefully we all can get some grace and mercy. When we do get some mercy and people show us love and compassion then things can change like in this movie even though it never did with his family.

@@CampCrystalCharlie Various racisms: Walt to all immigrants, black people towards Asians and Latinos... Who says that because you are African American you can't be racist???

Set and filmed in Detroit. I lived a couple of blocks from where some of the scenes were shot.

Walt was far from a racist, he was a decorated combat infantryman with severe PTSD. He had the heart of a lion. I only responded to this because it came up on my feed, you know very little about people, we are defined by what we do, not what we say, learn a lesson. Leaving out the shooting where he gives his life for his neighbors is inexcusable. Nevertheless, even though you missed most of the jokes, I'll give you a thumbs up because you have a good personality.

Lol just because you like someone does not mean you can take away the bad traits. He was a racist but he was good. He literally taught me G*0k and Zi**erhead from our first e-interaction lol it's ok buddy. He was good but he was racist. If you ask me, we all are racist a little bit lol.

what ignorant people? Maybe some people don't want to watch "Dewight man saves the day while using slurs". Babes watch Birth of a nation, seems like u would be a fan of the KKK as it is anti-woke aka pro slurs I wish people who love slurs online had hair on their chest in real life. Online racist are so kool-aid in the veins coded.

I've always found this a super touching movie. So much applies to differences today. So many people are racist simply because of a lack of exposure to others and their cultures. It's getting better, just so slowly. Never fails to get me.

yeah, and many people have no clue of how racial slurs come about, their origin, the history behind it, people prefer to be deaf, dumb, and blind to sooo much in life.

The US is the most diverse country in the world and the least racist. Black people are much more racist than whites, and my black friends have no problem admitting that.
