Greetings from England buddy, I've just come back from visiting your beautiful and spectacular country, I went to Black Rock Desert, with the intention of driving to the other end of the Playa it was well dried up by this stage, but alas I got on the playa and went up it about 5 miles but got cold feet and decided not to risk it in my Sixt rental car, but it was a great trip and one I shall never forget...its real good to see it on YT , thanks for uploading :-)

Greetings from the U.S.! Yes the playa can be intimidating with how large it is. You have to keep track of the sky line from where you departed so you can find your way back! Thanks for watching!

You went to BRD!! So cool.. I didn't know it is actually a lake at times. You're very brave to do that alone. I prefer that place in September with 80,000 friends :) And those horses are awesome!

Hi Alicia! Oh...I love the BRD! so cool ( hot ). I will be going back this winter. Glad you have so many friends! (80K) count me as one. ( My Black Rock friends are 5 horses, 2 coyotes and a jack-rabbit ) Thanks!!

Come to Nevada! You can walk right up and pet a lot of them. I live in Sparks (East Reno) and I can drive 10 minutes and almost always find a herd. It's super cool.

Man, you really go light out there, bro! I had a whole mess a gear when I went rollin' out, right where you were. I drove all the way through to Denio. Amazing country. I made a video very much like yours, on my channel. Great minds think alike. Awesome horses!

Thanks! Very wild country...looking forward to going back! If you have the room it doesn't hurt to bring a whole mess of gear."Keep Hiking!"

Great content, makes me want to explore like that in Nevada. You got the right stuff. Maybe a Grundig or C. Crane am/fm/sw radio and a pair of binoculars as it becomes dark along with a low folding beach chair, that would be tops.....

Thanks~!! I am making plans to go to Southern Utah canyon country and solo back pack this spring/ I'd like a low folding beach chair! "Keep Hiking!"

Awesome Chris!!! I Moved to Cedar City Utah from Alpena Michigan, aug 2013 to do this kind of exploring myself. If you are ever in south west Utah maybe message me. I know some very strange off the map kinda areas out here. Plus I am always in search for a cool person crazy enough to do stuff like that with.

Stumbled upon your video while searching for a video on Gerlach. Keep up the good work. I am thinking of heading down there next weekend for tent camping. Do you think this is doable on a 2WD sedan?
@basecampchris5 жыл бұрын
Yes, just gas up in Gerlach..let someone know where exactly you are going/ when returning. There is a campground...I'd check the internet / call make sure it's open and where it is. ( get a good map too ) Huge area...
@drumdude464 жыл бұрын
Is this 'region/area accessible, BLM or local regs notwithstanding, at 'off-season' times? ( meaning, non-burning event) so...a bloke...can just drive out onto the lake bed...anywhere... park, and camp overnight? it's June 17, 2020...and i would like to do that this weekend, in my Odyssey Van. Thanks for any help or tips!
@basecampchris4 жыл бұрын
yes , you can it is a NCA national conservation area...check the weather for heat, bring plenty of water and head to Gerlach from there there is a paved road that branches off onto the Playa where you can drive/ camp ( check your maps ) ...follow these guidelines blackrockdesert.org/know-before-you-go/
@drumdude464 жыл бұрын
@@basecampchris Thank you for that Info Chris. I am in a well equipped Honda Odyssey Van...but with just regular 'touring road tires, front whee drive. i know we're getting into summer..so hopefully sopping wet playa conditions and/or...sinking mud shouldn't be present, correct? I suppose i wouldn't have to 'go out onto the lake bed...could just find some 'side roads....off the Gerlach Road ( as you did in the Video) ...and find a camp spot as such. Safe travels.
