It's not a crazy or ambitious video this week, just a basic, ordinary, usual, typical, normal, regular, traditional, standard, common car camping trip, but I'm very excited for the next few weeks of travel and videos. We now have reliable transportation!

😂 I love how Steve’s still so awkward. He does intro & starts explaining new car. Then crazy neighbor enters the scene and throws Steve off his game. 😂 Steve “oh hey crazy neighbor!” Then immediately turns to the camera raises his arm and waves and says “Hey!” to us again, before remembering he already been there done that. 😂 Doesn’t even edit it out! Which I love! That’s the stuff that keeps me rolling! Always keeping it real!!

Congrats on the new ride. Also, they make “clamp on” style roof rails for that vehicle. No drilling required. E trailer and a few other sites should have them. Also, you could get a hitch carrier if you didn’t want the extra wind resistance, noise etc. of the roof rack. Don’t drill into the new ride!

My last vehicule purchase I did the same test of sleeping possibility with the back seats down. And it was well that I did so, as last summer with some work cowlleeges we had a dayhike and then a cookout at the trailhead and somebody cracked out way too much booze (legal or tolerated at some trailhead cookouts-places here in Europe)... having driven alone and nobody else going my way to act as designated dr*** I adapted to the situation and did an SUV sleepout, for which I was ok with what I keep at all times in my SUV and with my day-pack for the day-hike. Tolerance for consuming booze at trailhead cookout does not translate into tolerance for driving 2 hours home all boozzed-upp. So I got to enjoy the view of the trailhead area at dawn and have some of my day-pack emergency coffee and food for breakfast warmed on my pocket-r and titanium 650ml cup--- not bad at all.

Instead of the roof basket, for a quick solution you could get a hitch mounted cargo carrier for your trailer hitch, use a fair size tote on the back so you can still get around or on top to access the back for gear and or bed space. Hey Steve, just wanted to let you know that Yakima Racks actually makes a system that you can utilize without the mounting points on your car. It is either the baseline or ridgeline system I believe and it’s for cars with naked roofs or flush mounted side rails. I’ve got them on my car and they work great. The towers sit on top of the roof and clamp inside the top of the doorframe and there aren’t any issues closing the door or anything like that.

When pouring a rectangular container, carton or can, pour with the opening up, it will avoid the splashing. Since the air coming into the container, that displaces the liquid inside needs a pathway, if the opening is plugged by the liquid coming out, the air forces its way in by making bubbles in the container, causing the liquid to splash out instead of pouring out, in a smooth fashion. Congratulations on the new car. Thanks for the content. Keep up the good work. בס'ד

Lots of great places to camp here on the island. Once you get away from the lower island (Nanaimo and southeast), the sky is the limit for places to camp. You do have to watch the logging roads as the potholes are deep, trucks flying down them from dawn to dusk and Mosaic has a habit of locking the entrance gates from time to time on their active roads.

I work at a REI in Southern California, and my store could easily install a new rack system for ya Steve! There aren't any REIs in Canada, but if there is a MEC near where you live, I'm sure they can help you out! It may set you back about $1000 however. New roof rack systems are not cheap.

The seats in the rav4 don’t lay flat. There is a 6-7” difference from cargo area to top of back seats. I built plywood carpeted platform to make it level. A must for anyone with back issues.

Nice wheels! My father has a 2021 rav4 hybrid. Phenomenal car, you made a wonderful decision on that one. Edit: if you take the car to a reputable collision repair shop, they would be able to source the parts and correctly install your roof rack rails without problem. I've worked in the industry quite a bit, and I don't think you will have too much trouble finding someone to do it.

Steve, I actually bought a Motor Cycle Pull Behind Trailer to fit all of my 'glamping' gear into and since you have a trailer hitch - I'd say you're good to go. Definitely investigate the pull behind trailers for Motor Cycles - they're small (but hold a lot of gear) and they don't cost a fortune. A lot of people don't think of these wonderful trailers because they're always imagining the big 6 foot by 4 foot wide square type things - so, do a search on the pull behind trailers - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. One note however, is that the trailer may not necessarily be suitable for your stealth camping excursions...
@HomesteadDad
@HomesteadDad 2 жыл бұрын
Steve, since you won't have the roof rails before Vancouver Island, you could get a trailer hitch rack to hold your gear. Something to think about and it would give you options until you can get a proper roof rack installed.

Hey! I have an AWESOME and easy camping recipe for you! We fix it for dinner at the house all the time. It's a childhood favorite of my wife's: 1 lb of ground beef (browned) Add to it: 1 can red enchilada sauce 1 can green chiles 1 can cream of mushroom soup (can't taste it! Acts as a binder.) dash of Worcestershire sauce 1 can chili hot beans (NOT kidney beans) Let that all warm up together and melt as much mozzarella on top as you want. SERVE WITH FRITOS That's it! Just dump it, stir it, heat it, and eat it!
