My last vehicule purchase I did the same test of sleeping possibility with the back seats down. And it was well that I did so, as last summer with some work cowlleeges we had a dayhike and then a cookout at the trailhead and somebody cracked out way too much booze (legal or tolerated at some trailhead cookouts-places here in Europe)... having driven alone and nobody else going my way to act as designated dr*** I adapted to the situation and did an SUV sleepout, for which I was ok with what I keep at all times in my SUV and with my day-pack for the day-hike. Tolerance for consuming booze at trailhead cookout does not translate into tolerance for driving 2 hours home all boozzed-upp. So I got to enjoy the view of the trailhead area at dawn and have some of my day-pack emergency coffee and food for breakfast warmed on my pocket-r and titanium 650ml cup--- not bad at all.

Instead of the roof basket, for a quick solution you could get a hitch mounted cargo carrier for your trailer hitch, use a fair size tote on the back so you can still get around or on top to access the back for gear and or bed space. Hey Steve, just wanted to let you know that Yakima Racks actually makes a system that you can utilize without the mounting points on your car. It is either the baseline or ridgeline system I believe and it’s for cars with naked roofs or flush mounted side rails. I’ve got them on my car and they work great. The towers sit on top of the roof and clamp inside the top of the doorframe and there aren’t any issues closing the door or anything like that.

For sure. I have the same Thule system on my Corolla. Very sturdy.

When pouring a rectangular container, carton or can, pour with the opening up, it will avoid the splashing. Since the air coming into the container, that displaces the liquid inside needs a pathway, if the opening is plugged by the liquid coming out, the air forces its way in by making bubbles in the container, causing the liquid to splash out instead of pouring out, in a smooth fashion. Congratulations on the new car. Thanks for the content. Keep up the good work. בס'ד

Steve, I actually bought a Motor Cycle Pull Behind Trailer to fit all of my 'glamping' gear into and since you have a trailer hitch - I'd say you're good to go. Definitely investigate the pull behind trailers for Motor Cycles - they're small (but hold a lot of gear) and they don't cost a fortune. A lot of people don't think of these wonderful trailers because they're always imagining the big 6 foot by 4 foot wide square type things - so, do a search on the pull behind trailers - I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. One note however, is that the trailer may not necessarily be suitable for your stealth camping excursions...
@HomesteadDad2 жыл бұрын

Hey! I have an AWESOME and easy camping recipe for you! We fix it for dinner at the house all the time. It's a childhood favorite of my wife's: 1 lb of ground beef (browned) Add to it: 1 can red enchilada sauce 1 can green chiles 1 can cream of mushroom soup (can't taste it! Acts as a binder.) dash of Worcestershire sauce 1 can chili hot beans (NOT kidney beans) Let that all warm up together and melt as much mozzarella on top as you want. SERVE WITH FRITOS That's it! Just dump it, stir it, heat it, and eat it!

Thanks for the video content Steve, your channel is a break and refreshing from 'much' of what we find on bushcraft etc. You folks will really enjoy the RAV4 we are on our second one and it is the Trail Edition. Great vehicles. As always loved the video keep it up, look out 1 million subscribers here Steve comes!!

Hey Steve, you might look into vacuum suction cup roof racks. They work really well, and don't do any damage to the vehicle and there is no drilling.

Happy St Patrick's Day, Steve. It's good to see you and Crazy Neighbour savouring our Irish beverages, Smithwicks and Guinness, today. Congratulations on your new car. May you enjoy driving it, and travel safely in it. Great video. Thank you.

Two things to NOT be caught doing out in the woods or when stealthing: mashing your own potatoes or pulling your own pork. The unintended (or maybe intended) one-liners from Steve is such a great part of his adventures. Glad to see the reliable new ride and the forward progress on the house...and always good to see crazy neighbor!

Hey Steve, I've always liked the videos where you did actual cooking. I mean I think it makes for great camping. Weird camping locations or set ups and cooking on the fly. Maybe actually coming up with a good meal. Great content man. Huge fan.

Keep in mind, roof racks can have a big effect on fuel use. One of the biggest advantages of a new vehicle is the clean aero profile. Removing seats might be easier for you too, to add cargo space

Entertaining as always...👍 if you go the route of drilling holes in the roof, have a reputable shop build you a custom aluminum roof rack/basket/rails/etc. You'll have exactly what you want and it'll last forever and look good doing it with minimal maintenance.
